Parish Office PASTORAL POST
Written by
Mr. Dan Kinley, Principal
It is unbelievable that the 2019-2020 school year has really crept up on us so
quickly. We are anticipating another exciting school year with the enthusiastic
Catholic school teachers, teacher aides, staff and the 275 students who will
begin the new school year on August 21st. I can always say that we are so very
proud of St. Matthias School.
A few changes in our school year staff this are, Miss Carey Wrigley is moving
into a new position in Instructional Technology, Mr. Luke Patterson will
become our 5th Grade Homeroom teacher and teach 4th and 5th Grade
English/Language Arts and Social Studies. Miss Hilary Humiston, a St. Matthias
School and DeSales High School graduate, will become our new 8th Grade
Homeroom teacher with the responsibility of preparing the 8th Graders for
Confirmation as well as teaching Grades 6, 7 and 8 English/Language
Arts. Mrs. Danielle Massman is moving to the position of Teacher Aide in
Grades 7 and 8 and Mrs. Lora McElroy will be assigned as the Kindergarten
Teacher Aide. Mrs. Alberta Mendoza, Mr. Joe Whalen and Mrs. Kristy Yonyon
will be our new AfterCare team.
Our School Advisory Board is comprised of dedicated school parents and
parishioners who meet monthly with Fr. Tony and me in an advisory role for
the school. Amy Miller is our president for the upcoming school year, Elisa
Clever will be the vice-president and Heather Messmer will continue as the
board secretary. Other valuable members include Mark Massman, Kenya
Hood, Beth Godfrey, Jenna Mercer, Scott Thorne, Ruby Hurst, Deanna Jones
and Heather Evans.
St. Matthias School will continue to implement our Catholic School Identity
goal of exploring the Corporal Works of Mercy. The past couple of years the
children have gathered in small ‘family groups’ to study them. They have
participated in various activities to Give Drink to the Thirsty, Feed the Hungry,
Bury the Dead and Clothe the Naked. This year, we will focus on Shelter the
Homeless, Visit the Sick, and Visit the Imprisoned.
We are so grateful for our parishioners and friends who have supported our
school in the past and will support us again this upcoming year. Please pray for
all of our students and staff as we prepare for our first day of school this week.
STEWARDSHIP MEDITATION
“Do you think I have come to give you peace on Earth? No, I tell you, but
rather division.” LUKE 12:51
Living a stewardship lifestyle means stepping out of our comfort zone when
needed. Many of us like to play it safe, not cause waves, stay in the middle of
the road. In today’s world we are called to be informed and take a stance for
life, marriage and religious liberty.

WITH THANKS
Sister Marie’s heart is bursting with gratitude for all the kindnesses, loving
words, gifts, prayers, promises of keeping in touch. The missioning of her

filled and the afternoon reception will be a sustaining memory. Naming the
meeting room Saint Julie’s Room and the plaques is a wonderful gift of
remembrance from the new St. Matthias Parish Council.
