From the Pastor’s Desk NEW LITURGICAL YEAR - Following last Sunday’s Solemnity of Christ the King which brought the Year of Grace 2015 to a close, today we begin the new liturgical year with the First Sunday of Advent. The Church tells us that “Advent has a two-fold character: as a season to prepare for Christmas when Christ’s first coming to us is remembered, and as a season when that remembrance directs our mind and heart to await Christ’s second coming at the end of time. Advent thus is a period of devout and joyful expectation.”
WE’RE A PILGRIMAGE CHURCH! – We received notification this week that Archbishop Gomez has designated our church to be one of the “Pilgrimage Churches” during the Holy Year of Mercy which commences on December 8th and continues until November 20, 2016 (Feast of Christ the King). This means that people from throughout our Region and especially our Deanery will be coming to our church in pilgrimage to pray, celebrate Mass, go to Confession and receive the special Plenary Indulgence granted by our Holy Father to pilgrims.
There will be a special “Holy Door of Mercy” designated in our church (the main center door on Florence Avenue) and this will be blessed at a special Opening Ceremony officiated by our Regional Bishop, His Excellency Bishop Edward Clark, on Sunday, December 13th at the 2:30 p.m. Mass. Everyone is invited to this special celebration. There will be more details forthcoming.
FAREWELL TO FR. MUDDU – This week we say Good Bye to Fr. Alexander Muddu who has been with us for the last several weeks. Fr. Alex now returns to his native Uganda. We promise him our prayers for a safe journey.
ANNUAL PARISH CHRISTMAS DINNER – Our annual celebration will take place on Saturday evening, December 19th. This an-nual Christmas celebration brings us together to share good food, wonderful music and friendship as we prepare to celebrate the Birth of the Savior. Please mark your calendars now so you don’t miss it. Tickets will be on sale soon. I hope to see you at this wonderful event!
THE MOTIVE OF OUR GIVING – Continuing our Stewardship reflection:
A. We Should Give Thankfully - That is, we ought to do our giving in light of what the Lord has done for us. When we consider the fact that the Lord loved us and gave His life for us, then saved us by His grace when we simply asked, then the tithe seems aw-fully small. A thankful heart is a giving heart!
B. We Should Give Cheerfully - According to the Bible, God loves a cheerful giver, 2 Cor. 9:7. This word literally means, "hilarious." We should give, not because we feel obligated to give, but because it delights our hearts to be able to give unto the Lord!
C. We Should Give Liberally - This simply means that we are not to be stingy when it comes to giving to the Lord's work or His people. In truth, we can expect God to bless us in direct proportion to the level of our giving, Luke 6:38; 2 Cor. 9:6. Do not be guilty of being a skinflint when it comes to giving. The Lord will not bless your life! This is the only kind of liberal the Lord will use and bless!
D. We Should Give Sacrificially - In the gospel, Jesus was impressed, not by the amount of the widow's gift, but by the fact that she gave out of her need. The rich gave out of their surplus, she gave all she had. That got the Lord's attention! It still does! If you wait to start giving when you have plenty, you will face 2 problems. 1.) You'll never get to where you think you have plenty. 2.) When you do have extra, it will seem like too much to give. The best thing to do is to give everything you have to the Lord. When He already owns it all, then that little 10% won't matter too much.
Conclusion: When we come to the topic of money, there are always those who get a little touchy. Some people simply are not going to honor the Lord with their giving until they get right with God. Some will say, "Father, it's not about the money." In truth, that's what it is always about! Anyone who refuses to give the Lord what belongs to Him loves his money more that he loves God. What is God's word about your money? That your money belongs to Him and that you will give an account as to how you use His money.

DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PARROCO NUEVO AÑO LITURGICO - El domingo pasado celebramos la Solemnidad de Cristo Rey, que trajo el año de Gracia del 2015 a su fin, el dia de hoy comienza el nuevo año litúrgico con el Primer Domingo de Adviento. La Iglesia nos dice que ‘el Adviento’ tiene doble caracter : es una temporada para prepararse para la Navidad y nos sirve como recuerdo de la primera venida de Cristo, la segunda es como una estación en qual el recuerdo dirige nuestra mente y el corazón a la espera de la se-gunda venida de Cristo al final del tiempo. Por lo tanto, el Adviento es un período de expectación piadosa y alegre ".
SOMOS UNA IGLESIA DE PEREGRINACION! - Hemos recibido notificación esta semana que el Arzobispo Gómez ha designado a nuestra iglesia a ser una de las "iglesias de peregrinación" durante el Año Santo de la Misericordia, que comienza el 8 de diciembre y continúa hasta el 20 de noviembre 2016 (Fiesta de Cristo Rey). Esto significa que la gente de toda nuestra Región y en especial nuestro Decanato vendrán a nuestra iglesia en peregrinación para orar, celebrar la Misa, confesarse y recibir la indulgencia plenaria especial consedida por nuestro Santo Padre a los peregrinos. Habrá una "Puerta Santa de Mise-ricordia" especial designada en nuestra iglesia (la puerta principal centro de Florence Avenue) y esta será bendecida en una ceremonia de apertura especial oficiada por nuestro Obispo Regional, Su Excelencia Monseñor Edward Clark, el la Misa del Domingo, 13 de diciembre a las 2:30p.m. Todo el mundo esta invitado a esta celebración especial. Tendremos más detalles próximamente.
DESPEDIDA AL PADRE MUDDU- Esta semana nos despedimos del Padre Alexander Muddu que ha estado con nosotros desde hace varias semanas. El Padre Alex ahora regresa a su nativa Uganda. Le prometemos nuestras oraciones para un viaje seguro.
CENA ANNUAL NAVIDEÑA - Nuestra celebración anual se llevará a cabo la noche del sábado, 19 de diciembre. Esta cele-bración anual de Navidad nos reúne para compartir de buena comida, música maravillosa y la amistad mientras nos prepara-mos para celebrar el nacimiento del Salvador. Por favor marque su calendario ahora para que no se lo pierda. Los boletos esta-rán a la venta pronto. Espero verlos en este maravilloso evento!
EL MOTIVO DE NUESTRA ENTREGA - Continuando nuestra reflexión de Mayordomía:
A. Debemos dar Gracias a Dios - Es decir, que debemos hacer nuestras donaciones a la luz de lo que el Señor ha hecho por nosotros. Cuando consideramos el hecho de que el Señor nos amó y dio su vida por nosotros, entonces nos salvó por su gracia cuando simplemente preguntamos, entonces el diezmo parece muy pequeña. Un corazón agradecido es un corazón bondado-so!
B. Debemos dar Alegremente - Según la Biblia, Dios ama al que da con alegría, 2 Cor. 9: 7. Esta palabra significa literal-mente, “hilarante". Debemos dar, no porque nos sentimos obligados a dar, sino porque se deleita nuestros corazones al dar al Señor!
C. Debemos dar liberalmente - Esto simplemente significa que no debemos ser tacaños cuando se trata de dar a la obra del Señor o de su pueblo. En verdad, podemos esperar que Dios nos bendiga en proporción directa al nivel de nuestro dar, Lucas 06:38; 2 Cor. 9: 6. No sea culpable de ser un tacaño a la hora de dar. El Señor no va a bendecir tu vida! Este es el único tipo de liberal el Señor va a usar y bendiga!
D. Debemos dar con sacrificio - En el evangelio, Jesús estaba impresionado, no por la cantidad de regalos de la viuda, pero por el hecho de que ella dio de su necesidad. Los ricos dieron de lo que les sobra, ella dio todo lo que tenía. Eso llamó la aten-ción del Señor! ¡Todavía lo hace! Si usted espera para empezar a dar cuando se tiene un montón, que se enfrentará con 2 pro-blemas. 1.) Usted nunca llegara a donde usted piense que tiene suficiente. 2.) Cuando usted tiene extra, va a parecer demasia-do como para dar. Lo mejor que puedes hacer es dar todo lo que tienen al Señor. Cuando Él ya es dueño de todo, entonces ese pequeño 10% no importará demasiado.
En Conclusión: Cuando llegamos al tema del dinero, siempre hay aquellos que consideran este tema un poco delicado. Algu-nas personas simplemente no van a honrar a el Señor con sus donaciones hasta que estén bien con Dios. Algunos dirán: "Padre, no es por el dinero." Y en verdad, eso es de lo que siempre se trata! Cualquiera persona que se niega a dar al Señor lo que le pertenece a Él ama a su dinero más que a Dios. ¿Cuál es la palabra de Dios acerca de su dinero? Que el dinero le perte-nece a Él y que le tendras que dar una cuenta de cómo utilizaste su dinero. Sinceramente en Cristo y San Juan Crisóstomo, Padre González

Fr. Cyprian Davis, monk and priest of Saint Meinrad Archabbey, died on Sunday, May 17, 2015. Fr. Cyprian was professor emeritus of Church history at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology. One of Fr. Cyprian’s major projects, his 1990 publication The History of Black
Catholics in the United States, resulted from his search for the documents and stories of African-American Catholics. In 1991, the book received the prestigious John Gilmary Shea Award from the American Catholic Historical Association. Fr. Cyprian has traveled internationally, giving presentations on the development of monastic archives at monasteries in Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Togo. He also taught Church history at abbeys in Senegal and Nigeria. His commit-ment to historical education in Africa represented an effort to nurture the roots from which has grown the community whose life he has chronicled. He was the recipient of numerous awards, including Lifetime Achievement Servant of Christ Award from the National Black Catholic Congress, the 2012 Eli Lilly Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indiana Historical Society, and the Distin-guished Teaching Award from the American Catholic Historical Association.
The Guadalupe Society of St John Chrysostom invites you join us in the Triduum, a time in which we meditate the Holy Rosary. The Triduum will take place the 9,10 and 11 of December at 7pm.
The Guadalupe Society of St. John Chrysostom Church will need flower donations to decorate the altar.
The celebration of the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be held on December 12th. The traditional maña-nitas accompanied by mariachi will begin at 5:30am and Mass at 6:00 am, followed by light refreshments at the parish hall. The evening Mass will be at 7:00 pm. Join us after the Mass for an evening full of entertainment, traditional Mexican food, folkloric ballet, and more.
La Sociedad Guadalupana de San Juan Crisóstomo los invita el 9,10 y 11 de Diciembre a las 7:00pm al Triduo, un momen-to en el cual meditamos el Santo Rosario.
La Sociedad Guadalupana les pide que por favor nos ayuden con la decoración de flores para el altar.
La celebración de la Virgen de Guadalupe será el día sabado, 12 de Diciembre. Comenzamos la celebración con las tradi-cionales mañanitas con mariachi a las 5:30am y enseguida la Misa a las 6:00am. Por la tarde la celebración de la Misa será a las 7:00pm. Después de la Misa acompáñenos en el salón parroquial para disfrutar de comida, música, y ballet folklórico.

The tree will soon be up and the “ornaments” will be waiting for you. Please stop by the vestibule to pick up an ornament to purchase the matching toy. The idea is to take one (or more) of these orna-ments home, purchase a suitable gift for the child described on the ornament and bring that toy (unwrapped) to the rectory. We need to collect all toys as soon as possible in order that they may be distributed by St. Marga-ret’s in the next two weeks. Your generosity
can make a needy child very happy this Christmas!

El árbol estará listo muy pronto y los "adornos" le estarán esperando. Favor de pasar por el vestíbulo para recoger un adorno de compra del juguete o juego. La idea es llevar uno (o más) de estos adornos a casa, y comprar un regalo apropiado para el niño descrito en el adorno y llevar ese juguete (sin en-volver) a la rectoría. Tenemos que recoger todos los juguetes lo mas pronto posible a fin de que puedan ser distribuidos por Santa Margarita en las próximas dos semanas. Su generosidad puede hacer a un niño necesitado muy feliz esta Navidad!
