The Society of St. Vincent DePaul St. Andrew the Apostle Conference neighbor helping neighbor… Our helpline 815-886-4165 ext. 304
All calls are confidential with callbacks within 24 hours.
As we begin Advent we are called to “wait” in joyful anticipation for the grace of Christmas to once again bless our lives. Wherever you live in our parish there are poor families within walking distance of your home. When in need they ring our parish office and then if the situation warrants it they are referred to our helpline. Thank you for your continued generosity to the poor. During the past two weeks we have been able to assist two families with rent and mortgage assistance. God continues to bless us during the Advent Season to respond with love and open hearts.
Statement from Bishop Conlon Following the November 2018 USCCB General Assembly
The bishops of the United States have concluded their fall general assembly in Baltimore. The meeting was both frustrating and hopeful. It was frustrating because we were unable to complete any concrete response to the nagging concerns of American Catholics regarding the role of bishops in handling the child abuse allegations in general and specifically the situation involving Archbishop Theodore McCarrick. It was hopeful because we had hours of open and honest discussion of the issues and began to see some ways forward. Pope Francis has called for an unprecedented meeting of all the presidents of the National Conferences of Bishops in February to discuss the child abuse issue. Thus, he asked that we not take definitive action at our meeting this month. Delaying action in Baltimore also allowed us to recognize that there might be more than one way to deal with the issue going forward. It also reminded us that we are a global Church with different experiences and points of view. This delay in no way minimizes the seriousness or urgency of the matter. We bishops are confronted on an almost daily basis with the hard that has been caused, both to victim-survivors and to faith-challenged Catholics. I assure you that we (and I personally) will pursue the issue.
All Parishioners of St. Andrew the Apostle will have an opportunity to have their homes enthroned with the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Legion of Mary will host this enthronement at no cost to you; it’s absolutely free! All you have to do is go to the back of the Church after all the Masses on December8&9. The members of the legion will be available to you. The only requirement is that you pray the consecration prayers on the day you receive your enthronement form, sign it, and receive a copy of the optional daily prayer. The Diocese of Joliet had requested this be done as early as 2012. The Legion of Mary would normally perform the enthronements in homes which previously required two visits. It had been requested that there be a more convenient way to perform the enthronements, in order to do as many as possible. Pope John Paul II, in a talk given to families of the world, said, “AlwayskeepyoureyesontheSacredHeartofJesus,Kingandcenterofallhearts.FromHimyouwilllearnthegreatlessonoflove, ofgoodness, ofsacri ice, ofpiety, sonecessaryforeveryChristianfamily.” Also, there are 12 promises given to St. Margaret Mary by Our Lord Jesus for those devoted to His Sacred Heart. 1. I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life. 2. I will establish peace in their families. 3. I will console them in all their troubles. 4. They shall ind in My Heart an assured refuge during life and especially at the hour of death. 5. I will pour abundant blessings on all their undertakings. 6. Sinners shall ind in My Heart the source of an in inite ocean of mercy. 7. Tepid souls shall become fervent. 8. Fervent souls shall speedily rise to great perfection. 9. I will bless the homes in which an image of My Heart shall be exposed and honored. 10. I will give to priests the power of touching the most hardened hearts. 11. Those who propagate this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be effaced. 12. The all-powerful love of My Heart will grant to all those who shall receive Communion on the irst Friday of nine consecutive months, the grace of inal repentance; they shall not die under My displeasure, nor without receiving their Sacraments; My Heart shall be their assured refuge at that last hour.

First Sunday of ADVENT - Advent is the beginning of our liturgical year. It is a special time of preparation that allows us to change our hearts and to make room for Jesus in our hearts and our lives. This is a time when we focus on bringing the light of Jesus to others, as we work for the Kingdom of God. How do you shine the light of Christ for others? Where do you see Christ’s light in this world? Discuss with your family how the season of Advent can change your heart. Make plans as a family to make a difference.
As today’s readings imply: Now is the time! Pay attention! Live well in every moment of your life.

Faith Formation Families, during the month of December we are not meeting, however, you have work to do at home during this important season of the Church year. Today, we embark on a new Liturgical (Church) Year with the First Sunday of Advent. You have been assigned the material about the Liturgical Year in your Alive in Christ textbooks, check your handout for the exact pages in the textbook. Those of you using the Chosen curriculum, you have no formal book work to do, you are tasked with challenging yourself to live as a disciple of Christ in all that you do at this special time in our Church year.

Dear People of Romeoville, On behalf of the entire Harvest Saturday Committee, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated food, time, or money to the Harvest Saturday Food Drive, as well as your massive support in helping to feed the hungry. Please take pride in knowing that, through your generosity, over 15,000 items were collected which resulted in a total of 700 boxes of food that were divided among our four local food pantries. Although food donations slightly decreased, monetary donations increased. We collected over $2,100, which helped us to assist six food pantries now, with enough to assist two again in the spring. Thanks also to our kind sponsors and contributors:
Once again, thank you ever so much for your generous hearts. We are truly blessed with such a giving, loving, and caring community. God bless you all,

A very heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated to the Tax Credit Scholar-ship in 2018. Because of the generosity of donors across our region and right here in our own parish, 3 students are receiving a Catholic Education at St. An-drew School. To date we have received over $15,000 in scholarship through this program.
While we are thrilled to have 3 students on scholarship we still have over 50 stu-dents on the waiting list to receive funds who would love to be a part of our school community. It is not too late to donate for the 2018 tax year and help other students before December 31st. If you are interested in making a donation that will give you a tax credit not a de-duction on your Illinois state taxes for 2018, please contact the school office @ 815-886-5953. We would be glad to help you through the donation process. Donations must be made by December 1st to be included on 2018 taxes.

Diocese requirements include a formal engagement preparation period of at least six months before the date of the weddings and attendance in a marriage preparation program. St. Andrew requires either the bridge, groom, or parents of either to be registered as parishioners for at least three months before contacting us to set a date. There are a number of additional requirements. Please contact the Parish Office for additional information.
FUNERALS
Arrangements for a funeral are usually made through the Funeral Director at a funeral home of your choice.
PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK
Hospitals do not inform churches when parishioners are patients. You should ask an immediate family member to contact the Parish Office to request a visit from a priest when sickness occurs or death is imminent. Please contact Barb Sanders to arrange for Communion to be brought to the sick at home, to a hospital, or nursing home.
I would like to have my house blessed.
Please contact me to make arrangements.
