Adil Mohammad Dijoo Expulsion of Kashmiri students Condemnations continue to pour in Srinagar, Mar 7: The con- demnation for expulsion of Kashmiri students from Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU), Meerut, and registration of FIR against them continued to come in for second day today. Terming expulsion of Kashmiri students from uni- versities as a manifestation of total ‘frustration’, the chair- man of United Jihad Council (UJC) Syed Salahudin in a statement said authorities by themselves have exposed the “so-called secular and demo- cratic face of their country by expressing hatred and bigotry against Kashmiris." “The UJC chairman thanked the government of Pakistan for issuing a state- ment and taking cognizance of the issue”, the statement said adding that the state- ment by the Pakistan govern- ment was highly appreciable and encouraging. Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, while condemning the regis- tration of an FIR under sec- tion 124-A IPC against Kash- miri students, said, “The purpose behind this action is to muzzle the voice of people of Kashmir, particularly the student community and to convey to them that while in India, they have no right of dissent or freedom of expres- sion, speech, sentiments, emotions or association.” “The booking of 67 stu- dents under section 124-B IPC for cheering Pakistani play- ers or team is part of a game plan to harass, subjugate and humiliate the student com- munity of Kashmir, even though they had in no way waged any war against India or brought or attempted to bring dissatisfaction towards Government of India by sup- porting Pakistani team,” said a spokesman of the Bar in a statement today. Condemning the registra- tion of FIR, the Hurriyat Con- ference (M) senior leader and Jammu Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM) chairman Zaffar Akbar Bhat said, “It is unfortunate to see that main- stream parties in Kashmir were trying to draw political mileage out of the issue.” “They are misleading general public as two acts 153A, 427 IPC still remain unchanged. New Delhi and mainstream parties seem to be interested to see these innocent youths in jails,” said Zaffar in a statement today. Jammu Kashmir Lib- eration Front (R) chairman Farooq Ahmad Dar alias Bita Karatey said, “It is really pathetic that the students have been harassed and expelled from the University. We condemn the action.” Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (H) chair- man Javid Ahmad Mir, while condemning the booking of 67 Kashmiri students under sedition, termed it an act of racial bias. “It is the policy of Con- gress Government to make Kashmiris as scapegoats for their political benefits. The discriminatory action against the students is unwarranted and against the spirit of sports. Even the puppets of Indian govern- ment are too supportive of Pakistan Cricket team,” said Javid Mir in a statement today. Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies (KCSDS) has con- demned what it termed as harassment of Kashmiris students studying outside the state. In a statement, Chairper- son KCSDS, Prof Hameeda Nayeem said: “The unwar- ranted action against Kashmiri students in these universities is part of a con- spiracy to suppress Kash- miris. The fear psychosis perpetuated by authorities in collusion with communal forces against the Kashmiri students pursuing education thousands of miles away from their homeland, should serve as an eye opener for international community.” “Taking such unwar- ranted action against these students just for support- ing a cricket team reflects height of intolerance by a country which claims to be one of the biggest democra- cies of the world. KCSDS strongly condemns the act and impress upon the inter- national community and global human rights groups to impress upon New Delhi to halt unwarranted action against Kashmiris within and outside the state,” Prof Hameeda added.
