NSS Annual Activity Report for the Year 2014-15

National Service Scheme is one of the pathways to serve the society for the academic

institution. It creates a platform for the students to show their talents, to enhance their

knowledge, to combine the knowledge and action to achieve results for community

development. Our NSS are committed to prepare the NSS volunteers for the democratic, self

disciplined and self reliant way of life. One of the essential parts for the success of any

organization is the acquaintance of its members with the organization, its functions and

objectives. Our respected Principal Dr.K.Sundararaman M.Com., M.Phil., Ph.D., motivated

us with piece of advice shared with us some of the experiences that he had when he joined

and became a part of NSS and formed an executive committee headed by the Principal. The

committee members are the NSS programme officers, Chairman, Joint Chairman, Secretary,

Vice Chairman (Environment Enrichment and Conservation), Vice Chairman (Health, Family

Welfare and Nutrition Programme), Vice Chairman (Awareness for improvement of the

status of women), Vice Chairman (Social service Programmes), Vice Chairman (Production

Oriented Programmes), Vice Chairman (Relief & Rehabilitation) and Vice Chairman

(Education and Recreations). With the help of the seven NSS volunteer groups the following

events are successfully conducted in the year 2014-15 from the month of June to March.

List of events organized in the year 2014 -15

1. More than 50 of NSS volunteers have actively participated in the child labour

awareness rally from District Collector Office, Coimbatore to VOC Park on

12.6.14, Thursday at 10:00 am. The Programme was organized by NCLP

Coimbatore.

2. More than 20 of our NSS volunteers have actively participated in the launch of

poverty solutions, an initiative taken by Shanti Ashram, Kovaipudur. The program

was organised by Shanti Ashram Kovaipoudur on 28.6.14, Saturday at 4:00 pm in

Open Air Auditorium, Sri Krishna Arts and Science College.

3. More than 200 of our NSS volunteers have actively participated in Blood donation

awareness seminar organised by Health and Nutrition wing of our NSS on 9.7.14,

Wednesday at 2: 30 pm. in SKIM Hall, Sri Krishna Arts and Science College. The

session handled by Social service Program coordinator from Shanthi social service,

Coimbatore.

4. More than 35 NSS volunteers are actively participated in the Awareness rally on

Tamil Language , ‘Tamil Nadai’ from Sivananda Colony to Coimbatore bus stand.

5. Our College NSS conducted a Blood Donation Camp at our College premises in

association with Shanthi Social Service, Coimbatore on 16.7.14, Wednesday. Totally

150 units of Blood collected from our students.

6. The 20 of our NSS volunteers participated in the event environment protection

seminar, organised by Protect Our Environment Trust (POET), an NGO, on 16.7.14.

7. An awareness program through documentary film taken by our NSS volunteers about

Road safety, Tree plantation, environment protection etc. organised by Environment

and Production wing our NSS volunteers. More than 300 of our students are

participated on 21.7.14, Monday at 2:00 pm in the Seminar hall, SKASC.

8. More than 10 of our NSS volunteers have actively participated in the training

program on caring and handling of cancer patients, organised by ‘Aroh’, an NGO,

Coimbatore on 31.7.14.






9. Organ donation day (6.8.14) awareness seminar: More than 300 of our NSS

volunteers are actively participated in the awareness seminar on organ donation

organized by Health wing of NSS, on 7.8.1.4.

10. Peace festival: More than 50 of our NSS volunteers are actively participated and

contributed their work in the program ‘Pease festival’ and the launch of Poverty

Solutions Phase III, organised by Shanti Ashram, Kovaipudur on 8.8.14.

11. Independence Day Rally: More than 50 of our NSS volunteers have actively

participated in the Independence Day rally at Race course.

12. Independence Day Celebrations: On 15.8.14, Independence Day celebrated at our

College premises, Prof. Dr. D. Shanthi, HOD, Department of English hoisted the

National fag and delivered Independence Day speech. Our NSS Volunteers

demonstrated skit on Impact of Poverty on education.

13. Cleaning Camp: One day cleaning camp organised on 21.8.14, Thursday, for the

purpose of cleaning the Kovaipudur Library premises. More than 33 of or NSS

volunteers are actively participated.

14. Awareness Program: More than 20 of our NSS volunteers have participated in the

Health education for non communicative people, organised by Shanti Ashram,

Kovaipudur, on 13.9.14.

15. Awareness Program: More than 10 of NSS volunteers have actively participated in

the waste management awareness program among village people at Kannampalayam

on 14.9.14, Sunday.

16. Seminar: More than 5 of our NSS Volunteers participated in the seminar on Poverty

solutions organised by Shanti Ashram, at Bhrathiya Vidhya Bhavan School on

15.9.14 and also distributed Piggy banks to the students.

17. Seminar: More than 300 of our NSS volunteers have participated in the seminar

organised by Shanti Ashram on Poverty solutions on 17.9.14 at our college.

18. Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar: More than 100 of our NSS Girl volunteers

have participated in the seminar on breast cancer on 23.9.14.






19. NSS day Celebration: All the NSS volunteers have actively participated in the

celebration of NSS day in our college. The following events were organised (i) Tree

planted at our college premises (ii) Greeting card sales for fund collection for the

students affected by HIV (iii) Piggy bank distribution for Poverty solutions. (iv)

Demonstration of skit about poverty etc.

20. NSS day Celebration: Through greeting card sales, our NSS volunteers collected

Rs. 5540/- handed over to Shanti Ashram Kovaipudur on 13.10.14 for the benefit

and education of HIV affected students.

21. Clean India: Our NSS students have actively participated in the clean India

movement, an initiative from the Prime minister of India, at Coimbatore railway

station on 2.10.14.

22. Awareness Rally: An awareness rally and distribution of pamphlets about Breast

cancer, in around Sugunapuram organised by Our NSS girl volunteers in association

with Rama Krishna Hospital on 6.10.14.

23. Survey: More than 15 of our NSS volunteers have actively participated in the

survey of technology village project at Seerapalayam village, organised by Sanitation

Bureau of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Coimbatore.

24. Awareness program: An awareness program on ‘Say no to violence against

women’ organized by Our NSS volunteers in association with Shanti asram

kovaipudur on 13.11.14.

25. Skit and Drama: Our NSS volunteers actively participated in demonstrating drama

about transgender in association with Power of Youth hands and Shanti ashram on

16.11.14.

26. Awareness program: Our NSS volunteers actively participated in awareness

programme organized by Shanti Ashram about ‘Awareness on Clean city’ at

Kovaipudur on 17.12.14.

27. Eye donation camp: Our NSS volunteers actively participated in eye donation camp

organized by Aravinth eye hospital on 20.12.14 and 21.12.14.






28. 19th

National Youth Festival, Assam: Two of our NSS Volunteers: Ms. Keerthna

and Mr. Krishnamoorty actively participated in 19th National Youth Festival, Assam

from 8.1.15 to 12.1.15.

29. Oru kai pidi arisi thittam Handful of Rice Scheme: Our NSS volunteers Collected

426 Kg of rice from Our students and distributed to Cheshire Homes 79,

Sowripalayam Road, Sowripalayam, Coimbatore – 641 028 on13.1.2015.

30. Republic Day celebration: All the NSS volunteers have actively participated in the

celebration of republic day in our college on 26.1.15.

31. Peer education program to RRC volunteers: Our College NSS organized ‘One

day Peer education training program to RRC Volunteers’ in our campus. Totally

104 RRC volunteers from various colleges in and around Coimbatore affiliated to

Bharathiar University are actively participated. The training program started with

prayer song followed by lighting of Kuthuvilaku by the guests. Welcome address

given by Dr. T.Radhakrishnan NSS Programme Coordinator, Bharathiar University.

Inaugural address was given by Dr.P.Govindarajan Deputy Inspector General of






Prisons (Rtd.). In his speech he motivated the volunteers by asking questions related

to RRC. After Tea break, Second session started at 11:40 a.m. The Session was

handled by Dr. K.Mahadevan, M.D.D.V.,Professor, STD Department Coimbatore

Medical College Hospital, Coimbatore . In his speech, he gave a clear lecture on HIV

and Blood Donation. The Volunteers clarified their doubts by raising questions about

HIV and blood donation. After the lunch, next session started at 2:15 p.m. The

session was handled by Dr. S. John Michel raj, Associate Professor of Psychology,

Bharathiar University. The session is very interactive. The volunteers effectively

utilized the session by their active interaction. The last session handled by Thiru. P.

Sivakumar, Project Director, District Aids Prevention and Control Unit, Coimbatore.

His speech gave an insight about how to handle HIV Patients and where to report.

The training programme ended with certificate distribution for the participants

followed by Vote of Thanks given by Mrs R.Swarnalatha, NSS Programme Officer,

SKASC and National Anthem.

32. Blood Donation Camp: Our college NSS in association with Shanthi Social Service

Coimbatore organized Blood donation camp on 16.2.15. Totally 175 units of Blood

Collected. Some are rare blood groups.

33. NSS Rural Special Camp: Our College NSS organized seven days NSS special

camp at Ikkarai Boluvampatti from 5.3.15 to 11.3.15. Totally 200 NSS Volunteers

were participated the camp. The following field work carried out by the NSS

volunteers at Ikkarai-Boluvampatti during the NSS Special Camp from 5.03.15

to11.03.15.

34. International women day celebration: Our college NSS volunteers in association with

Sesha trust, Coimbatore organized a meeting at Ikkarai Boluvampatti middle School

Campus. Created an awareness on Problems faced by the village women and children

and also demonstrated a skit.
