General DescriptionModel SPSA Spiral Pipe Stack Assemblies are formed from a combination of Model SP Spiral Pipe, Model ST Spiral Tees, Model SN Spiral Nineties and Model SC Stack Caps, along with a host of critical accessories to provide seals, flexible connections and structural support for the complete stack assembly. When combined as required, these products provide economical fresh air intakes for Bebco Pressurization Units, Ventilation Units, Air Conditioners and Gas Phase Filtration Units, to acquire air from a source above any concentration of flammable, toxic or corrosive vapors that are above acceptable levels of concentration at ground level.

Spiral pipe and fittings are available in 8” to 24” standard and custom diameters in 16 or 20 gauge galvanized steel, 304 Grade stainless steel or 316 Grade stainless steel materials. Galvanized material may feature no finish, a hot dip galvanized finish or an exterior surface urethane finish. Stainless materials may feature no finish or an exterior surface urethane finish. The bodies of all fittings are seal welded. Flanges on galvanized spiral pipe and fittings can be seal-welded or tack-welded and sealed by marine grade calking or a hot-dip galvanized finish. Flanges on stainless spiral pipe and fittings can be seal-welded or tack-welded and sealed by marine grade calking.

SP Spiral PipeModel SP Spiral Pipes are fixed-length spiral pipes that are machine formed from 6” wide spooled metal into the desired diameter and length. The Spiral Pipes feature fixed flanges at both ends and are available in standard lengths of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 feet. In addition, upon special order, custom lengths may be provided not exceeding 168 inches (14’), and all spiral pipe is provided within length tolerances of ± .25”.

ST Spiral TeesModel ST Spiral Tees are intended for self-supporting stack applications, by providing a top end connection point for intake air, a branch connection point for inlet air to a Bebco Unit, and a bottom end connection point which is typically fitted with a blind cover plate and used for connection to a stand pipe. The run (end) connections feature seal-welded flanges and the branch (center) connection features a rotating Vanstone flange.

SN Spiral NinetiesModel SN Spiral Nineties are elbow fittings that form 90 degree right angle connections between other stack parts. The Model SN features a seal-welded flange on one fixed flange and one rotating Vanstone flange. For angles other than 90 degrees, see Model FDC Flexible Duct Connectors on Page 2.

SC Stack CapsModel SC Stack Caps prevent rain, debris and large insects or birds from entering the stack, and are required for all stack assemblies. They feature a fixed flange, domed cap and side rain guard, along with a 3/4” x 13 gauge expanded metal screen.

Model GBK Gasket and Bolt Kits provide a seal between spiral pipe and fittings or blind flanges within the hazardous area. The kit includes a die-cut 1/8” close cell neoprene gasket with pressure sensitive adhesive on one side and zinc plated, 304 Grade stainless steel or 316 Grade stainless steel bolt hardware. They are available in 8” to 24” or custom diameters, but not required for Unit intake air ports.

Model SPAK Spiral Pipe Anchor Kits secure spiral stack bases to a concrete slab, and include eight (8) 3/8” or eight (8) or twelve (12) 7/16” anchors. The Anchor Kits are offered in zinc plated, 304 or 316 Grade stainless steel and include one (1) stud, one (1) anchor body, two (2) nuts, two (2) flat washers and one (1) lock washer.

After setting all anchor and studs, stacks can be secured by threading a nut onto each stud, followed by a flat washer, the stack base flange, a flat washer, a lock washer and another nut to secure the stack. Adjustments can then be made to level the stack. The space under a stack flange can be back-filled with grout or left open for drainage if a blind cover is used to seal the stack, as described below.

Model CAGK Concrete Anchor Guy Wire Kits and Model EAGK Earth Auger Guy Wire Kits are intended to provide wind load support to spiral pipe stack assemblies. Due to the lighter-weight construction of a spiral stack, guy-wires are mandatory, particularly in areas where high wind velocities might occur.

The kits feature three (3) galvanized or stainless steel cables in 40 feet or custom lengths, rated for working loads ranging from 2,400 to 3,900 lbs, to withstand gale force winds up to 150 m.p.h.

The cables are offered in three distinct styles, identified as “GSE” for extra high strength (low flexibility) galvanized guy-wire cable, “GSP” for highly flexible galvanized aircraft cable or “SSP” for highly flexible stainless steel aircraft cable.

Cable hardware for each cable style, comprised of matching materials, include six (6) wire rope thimbles, twelve (12) wire rope clamps, three (3) screw pin shackles, three (3) turnbuckles and three (3) 60° angle flange brackets with bolts.

Model CAGK Kits include three (3) 1/2” x 8” wedge anchor bolts and three (3) eye nuts for anchoring in suitable concrete slabs, while Model EAGK Kits include three (3) 1” x 66” auger screws for anchoring in properly stabilized soil.

Model BC Blind Covers are formed from 16 or 20 gauge galvanized steel, 304 Grade stainless steel or 316 Grade stainless steel disks to seal the base of spiral pipe stack assemblies and prevent the entrance of hazardous gasses or vapors. These covers are typically installed between a custom stand pipe and tee of a stack assembly, as shown on Page 3.

Model SPSK Spiral Pipe Stanchion Kits provide an alternate securing method to Guy Wire Kits for Spiral Pipe Stack installations. The Model SPSK consists of 4 major components, including two (2) Model SRMB Stanchion Roof Mounting Brackets, two (2) Model SSMB Stanchion Stack Mounting Brackets, two (2) Model SPSB Spiral Pipe Stanchion Braces in Fixed or Telescoping Styles and one (1) Model SMHK Stanchion Mounting Hardware Kit.

Model SPSK components are available in 304 grade stainless steel with natural or painted finishes, and are certified to withstand gale force winds not exceeding 130 MPH.

The Stanchion Stack Mounting Brackets are provided in a range of diameters to fit 8” to 24” stacks and roof mounting brackets and stanchion braces are provided in a common size.

Model FDC Flexible Duct Connectors provide flexible connections between a stack and Bebco Unit, to simplify installation and eliminate torsional stress between the stack and unit connection.

Model FDC includes two (2) 16 gauge galvanized, 304 or 316 grade stainless steel flanges, two (2) 18-8 stainless steel duct clamps and one (1) 10” to 24” variable length neoprene coated polyester fabric duct, featuring an embedded galvanized steel reinforcement helix, with flexibility exceeding 90 degrees.

DETERMINATION OF CUSTOM STAND PIPE HEIGHT Custom stand pipes provide support for stack assemblies from a stack mounting slab up to the bottom of a stack tee fitting (see above illustration). A measurement from a stack mounting slab to the center of a Bebco Unit’s intake stack connection must be derived to determine stand pipe length, represented as “M” in the illustration above. Dimension D for a selected Model ST Stack Tee must then be deducted to establish a stand pipe length.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Bebco recommends subtracting at least one additional inch to provide adequate clearance for stack leveling nuts or shim washers.

NFPA Code 496 mandates a stack height as required to attain a source of fresh air,

containing no more than trace amount of ignitable gases or

vapors.

Bebco recommends an offset of the stack assembly using a Model FDC Flexible Duct

Connector, to permit proper air flow and access of condenser

compartment components located within wall mount air

conditioners.

Offsets may also be required to clear building eves or other items overhanging a building!
