A reconnaissance and raiding unit, the LRDG experienced the extreme contrasts of the desert environment by day and at night. Drawing from elements of their surprisingly broad desert uniform, Ræburn has created a modern and suitably functional collection. Season on season Ræburn’s originality is driven by the research, sourcing, development and utilisation of textiles, old or new. Innovation is in abundance this season, including the introduction of schoeller, a four- way stretch fabric printed with a stark interpretation of satellite imagery of the desert. Applied to a range of garments including a classic Bomber, Suit Jacket and Short, the result is an entirely unique print on each garment. The seasonal and celebrated REMADE range re-appropriates surplus military fabrics and this season the fabric of choice is a camouflage bivouac sheet mixed with 1950’s original rubberised cotton. This waterproof material is used for the Remade Bomber and Field Jacket with a draw cord waist. Sand-coloured military parachutes are also re-appropriated alongside an army mesh, in camo or vivid mint, to construct pieces including a Reversible Jacket, Parashirt and Double-Breasted Suit Jacket. The unexpected variety of garments in the LRDG’s uniform is reflected in the collection, as Ræburn comple- ments his signature outerwear with developments in summer attire and a maturing tailored offering. The latter sees Ræburn bring an element of modernity to a more traditional category, as function and premium sportswear elements are blended with formalwear archetypes. Tailored shirting in a muted pink, referencing the coloured Land Rovers once used by the LRDG, is an example of the surprisingly broad colour palette necessary for effective desert camouflage. A highlight in the tailored range is also the gabardine Mac, available in a desert lizard print. Each seasonal collection includes an element of humour and the gentle desert lizard receives not only the honour of being this season’s animal mascot, it is also incorporated into an original print subtly applied to the Mac, as well as a Harrington, Bomber and Suit Jacket. The adaptability of Merino wool is capitalised on as part of Cool Wool, the natural temperature regulation properties of this sustainable fibre appropriated for several lightweight seasonal staples including a Long- sleeve Hoody and Sunburst Tee. A REMADE IN JAPAN collaboration with Porter incorporates the surplus military fabrics into a Rucksack, Messenger and pouch, whilst the Made in England accessory offering continues to grow with the addition of Rucksack covers, as well as the Packaway Rucksack and Tote — perfect for summer excursions — and the Oversized Rucksack which lends itself to expeditions further afield. Christopher Ræburn is a Fashion Forward Menswear recipient and British Fashion Award Winner.
