Spring in New Orleans! Time to Think About the 61st Annual Meeting With the Holiday Season upon us and midwinter about to look us in the eye, what better time to dwell on the warm, lush springtime of semitropical New Orleans. Start your thinking and planning now to attend the Society's 61st Annual Meeting in New Orleans' Jung Hotel, April 26-30, 1970. The New Orleans Convention Committee is putting the finishing touches on an outstanding program of both tech- nical sessions and entertainment for the members in at- tendance. Mrs. L. E. Brown and her Ladies Entertainment Committee have arranged an outstanding program, taking advantage of both the old and the new of the famous Crescent City. A more detailed description of these events appears elsewhere in this issue. H. P. Dupuy, Chairman of the Technical Program Com- mittee, has 14= symposium sessions currently scheduled. At the time of this writing, the deadline for submission of titles and abs*raets of papers for the various technical sessions had not been reached; hence, the number of papers in prospect has not been determined. Full details con- cerning the Technical Program will appear in a later issue of the: Journal. New Orleans takes seriously the old adage about "all work and no play" so there will be plenty of opportunity for both in the 61st Annual Meeting. For those play hours after the technical sessions, there are the sights and sounds of Bourbon Street, sightseeing and dining in the fanmus restaurants in the French Quarter and the Garden District, a leisurely drink, and a breathtaking view of the city frmn the revolving "Top of the Mart" lounge atop the new International Trade Mart building at the foot of Canal Street and this is but a small sampling. The New Orleans Convention Committee urges that you think and plan now to be among those present at the 61st Annual Meeting. And, they repeat the often heard New OHeans exhortation, "Now, y'all eome--y'hear.*" Announcement on Symposium on Lipid Transport Mechanisms C. A. Ohnsted, Louisiana State University in New Orleans, has organized a symposium on Lipid Transport Mechanisms for presentation during the 61st Anmml Meet- ing of the Society in New Orleans on Tuesday, April 28, 1970. The morning session will have as its chairman J. F. Danielli, of the Center for Theoretical Biology, New York, N.Y. 640A The program will include: Introductory Remarks, C. A. Danielli Essential Fatty Acid Deficiency and Alterations in Lipid Transport and Deposition in Various Tissues, With Particular Reference to the CNS, Claudio Galli, Institute of Pharmacology, Milan Serum Lipid Transport System: Recent Advances, A. Lopez, LSU Medical School in New Orleans Role of Phospholipids in the Triglyceride Cycle, C. A. Olmsted Dr. OImsted will serve as chairman of the afternoon session, the program of which will include: Introductory Remarks, J. F. Danielli Recent Investigations on Drugs Interaction With Lipid Transport, Rodolfo Paoletti, Institute of Pharmacology, Milan The Functioning of the Lipids and Lipoproteins of Sarcotubular Membranes in Calcium Transport, E. J. Masoro, Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania Control of Immunological Phenomena by Intravenous Lipids, N. R. DiLuzio, Tulane Medical School, New Orleans Ladies Program Mrs. L. E. Brown, Chairman of the Ladies Entertain- ment Committee for the 61st Annual Meeting in New Orleans, April 26-30, 1970, accompanied her husband, who is General Entertain- ment Chairman, to the 43rd Fall Meeting in Minneapolis. While enjoying the excellent program of ladies activities arranged by the Minneapolis cmnmittee Mrs. Brown, both personally and in behalf of her committee, issued a eor- dial invitation to those pres- ent to come to New Orleans next April. Mrs. Brown described the outstanding program already set up by her committee for the entertainment of the ladies who plan to come to Mrs. L. E. Brown the Spring Meeting. Events scheduled are : Monday, April 27: Continental breakfast at the Jung Hotel; tour of beautiful Longvue Gardens in the "Old Metairie" section of the city; luncheon at the exclusive Plimsoll Club, high up in the new International Trade Mart Building at the foot of world-renowned Canal Street. Tuesday, April 28: Breakfast at Brennans. Breakfast at this famous French Quarter restaurant is more than a meal, it is an institution, and practically a must for New Orleans visitors; conducted walking tour of the French Quarter. Wednesday, April 29: Continental breakfast at the Jung }toteI; Coffee-Sherry party at the Southern Yacht Club, overlooking the waters of Lake Ponchartrain. A lady entertainer who is knowledgeable concerning the ancient art will talk about "Voodoo." Thursday, April 30: Continental breakfast at the Jung Hotel; lunch time free for those who wish to attend the noon Awards Luncheon. To the ladies who were not fortunate enough to be at the Minneapolis meeting, Mrs. Brown and her corn- mittee extend an equally cordial invitation to be "among that number when the Saints go marchin in," to New Orleans we mean !
