Why use absorbent materials in conjunction with Spill Trays?

Spill Trays can be used for storage and containment applications in hundreds of situations. The huge range of sizes available means there is a Spill Tray for almost every scenario when you need to store drums or containers safely or catch drips and leaks from components or machinery.Use Spill Trays to store:• Oil drums• Paint cans• Ink containers• Solvent drums• Components• Pumps

Where are Spill Trays used?KeepingcontaminationofftheflooristhefirstruleofSpillControlandSpill Trays are ideal for catching drips from leaking machinery or messy manufacturing jobs.Spill Trays can be useful in many sectors of industry including:• Motor trade• Plastic production• Hydraulic machinery• Metal working• Food industry• Printing• Transport industry

Reduce floorcontamination,contain dripsand leaks

It’s easy to collect drips and leaks in a Spill Tray but awkward to empty a full tray without spilling; using absorbent material or cushions to absorb the fluid gives better control, reduces spills when emptying the tray and makes it easier to keep things clean.

Select the appropriate Spill Tray for the job.

Place the Spill Tray in position to collect leaks and drips.

Choose General Purpose or Oil & Fuel absorbent material. Place the absorbent

in the base of the drip tray.

Leaks from the machinery or components are caught in the Spill Tray, preventing contamination of the floor.

The absorbent material soaks up the leaked fluid.

The absorbent imobilises the liquid; simply remove the material to clean out the tray without spilling.

Dispose of the contaminated

absorbent and fit fresh material if necessary.

Oil Storage Regulations (England): General RequirementsYou must store containers within a drip tray, bund or any other suitable secondary containment system (SCS). This will contain any oil that escapes from its container. Where a fill pipe is not within the SCS, you must use a drip tray to catch any oil spilled when the container is being filled. You should make sure this drip tray is clean and empty before each delivery. It is good practice to make sure that any foreseeable oil leak would be contained within secondary containment, for example a bund or drip tray, and could not cause pollution.

SEPA: Scottish Oil Storage RegulationsA secondary containment system such as a bund or drip tray must be provided to catch any oil leaking from the container or its ancillary pipe work and equipment. The Water Environment (Oil Storage) (Scotland) Regulations 2006A drip tray must be provided at the time of fuel delivery to catch any oil that could be lost during the coupling and decoupling of the delivery hose.

Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010. Where a fill pipe is not within the secondary containment system, a drip tray shall be used to catch any oil spilled when the container is being filled. Where oil from the tank is delivered through a flexible pipe which is permanently attached to it the pipe shall be enclosed in a secure cabinet which is locked shut when not in use and is equipped with a drip tray.

The Waterways CodeHelp keep the water clean and free from oil, diesel, petrol, detergents and other harmful substances.
