ABOUT TEN AT THE TOPTen at the Top envisions an Upstate region where collaboration, coordination

and cooperation across communities and business sectors is a hallmark. Ten at

the Top fosters partnerships and cooperation amongst ten counties, which forms

the Upstate South Carolina region, and encourages these diverse communities to

work together to enhance the Upstate’s economic vitality and quality of life.

In 2009, more than 400 community, business and elected leaders from across the

Upstate joined together for the Upstate Reality Check, a regional summit that

looked at the projected growth for the Upstate, and how the ten counties could

cohesively address key community issues. This event was the catalyst for the

incorporation of the group previously known as Upstate Together and now

known as Ten at the Top.

Since then, Ten at the Top has become an active regional entity focused on

fostering collaboration and strategic planning around issues that impact econom-

ic vitality and quality of life in the Upstate. Ten at the Top has hosted nearly 500

meetings, programs, workshops and forums that have informed and engaged more

than 25,000 participants on key issues across the Upstate. Because of Ten at the

Top, leaders from the Upstate have established partnerships that have significantly

improved the Upstate’s economy and community life.

PURPOSEBuilding on the successful Upstate Regional Summit: Re-Checking Our Reality, which was held in September 2014 and brought together more than 800 community and business leaders from across the Upstate to discuss key issues impacting current and future growth and the importance of regional collaboration, the 2016 Summit will provide another opportunity for leaders and interested stakeholders from across the region to gather in one place to share ideas and discuss how to work collaboratively to ensure the Upstate region continues to enhance the economic vitality and quality of life for all residents.

2016 will mark the fifth anniversary of the unveiling of the Our Upstate Vision, which engaged more than 10,000 Upstate residents in identifying “What Matters Most” as we look towards future growth in the Upstate Region. The regional vision calls for the Upstate to be “universally recognized as a leading place to live, learn, do business and raise a family”, so our theme for the summit will focus on “Creating a Leading Region”.

E X P E C T E D AT T E N DA N C EApproximately 800 regional elected, business and community leaders from across the ten counties of the Upstate are expected to attend the Summit.

P RO G R A M OV E RV I E W7:45 - 8:45 a.m. Registration / B2B Expo8:50 - 9:50 a.m. Morning Session The morning session will include a panel of CEOs from leading businesses and organizations from across the Upstate discussing how to build a leading business/ organization/region.

10:00 - 11:45 a.m. Breakout Sessions We will have two breakout sessions with each period including three breakout areas. The theme of each will be “Upstate Leaders” and highlight businesses, organizations or programs that are making the Upstate a leading place around the five regional vision driver areas (Community Vibrancy, Economic & Entrepreneurial Vitality, Human Potential, Natural Beauty & Resources and Sustainable Growth).

Breakout 1 will include three driver areas. Breakout 2 will include the other two driver areas as well as a panel on Regional Collaborations. For each breakout, the Regional Vision Area Task Force will choose 3 “Upstate Leaders” who will each have 5 minutes to share about their initiative. They will then participate in a 20-25 minute moderated panel discussion.

12:00 - 1:30 p.m. Lunch Session The lunch session will include our Summit Keynote Speaker – an individual hailing from the business, sports or military world specifically talking about building a team and achieving success. Much like a team, business or military unit, a region consists of many individual parts that must come together to solve a larger problem (or win a game or battle) to create a leading region, so a speaker who can talk about pulling diverse individuals together to achieve a collective goal should be right on point.
