  • WHY INVEST IN SRI LANKA?During the past 5 years*, Sri Lankas Stock Market has generated an average annual return of 23% and the country has been on a fast track to achieving growth unmatched by most economies. Sri Lanka is poised to pull off an average GDP growth of 8% per annum over the next three years, buoyed by sound fiscal and monetary policy, unprecedented growth in infrastructure development, emergence as a tourism and transhipment hub, and a burgeoning middle class. Sri Lankas medium-term GDP growth forecasts rank it as South Asias fastest-growing economy. Sri Lankas unique achievement in conducting mega infrastructure investments while progressively lowering the fiscal deficits, public debt burden and multi-decade low inflation, presents a unique differentiator from an emerging and frontier market perspective.

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) trades at a discount to most comparable markets with Market Cap to GDP ratio among the lowest in the region. Over the medium term, the market is poised to offer attractive returns, underlined by strong corporate earnings potential and sound balance sheet quality. Further, the Sri Lankan Capital Market is set to benefit under the Governments six hub concept, which brings together aviation, tourism, knowledge, maritime and energy, with Colombo positioned as a commercial and financial hub. Within this context, investments in the Capital Market will play a pivotal role in the developmental trajectory of the economy. The CSEs low correlation to developed markets compared to most other emerging markets provides a unique diversification opportunity to investors seeking emerging market exposure. Further, the CSE, together with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Sri Lanka, is taking concrete measures to increase free float and market depth in order to improve investability.
