EVALUATION METHODS: 1. Participation in class and attendance. (Major Test Gradex2)

2. Critique of oral presentations of class members and self. *

3. Exams (4) & Final

4. Presentation of the following speeches using a variety of speaking styles and

speaker's notes:

a. Speech to introduce self.

b. Speech to support a point ( Why I’m Attend College)

c. Special Occasion Speech.

d. Speech to inform with audio-visuals (Midterm) (3 Grades)

e. Impromptu

f. Speech to persuade or convince

g. Professional Group Presentation (Final Speech) (3 Grades)

5. Research, preparation, and presentation for public speaking

6. Research, preparation, and interaction for group discussion

*Although peer critiques do not increase/decrease your grade, based on what you say.

They however are an important measure of what you have learned in this class. (If you do

not do them or do not follow instructions you will receive a zero)

ATTENDANCE POLICY In order to receive instruction, and do well in the course, students should come to

class every day. It is the responsibility of the student to drop the course prior to the

scheduled dropping date should a conflict arise and he or she is not able to meet

course requirements. The instructor will drop students, who miss 4 days of class.

You must inform instructor why and when you are going to be absent by e-mail or by

phone. Within three days of the day you are absent. (Part of Participation grade)

***The last to drop is the April 13 ****

If requesting an “I” for the course documentation must be provided in a

timely manner.

ACADEMIC HONESTY Be forewarned that plagiarism, collusion, and cheating are grounds for

suspension from the college. Any student involved with any of the above activities

will receive an automatic 0 for the assignment and the grade cannot be made up.

Depending on the severity of the infraction, students may face additional

punishment. THIS POLICY WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.

RULES 1. CELL PHONES MUST BE KEPT OFF OR AT LEAST ON VIBRATE.

2. NO CAPS OR HATS OF ANY KIND WHILE PRESENTING A SPEECH.

3. STUDENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FINDING OUT INFORMATION

WHEN ABSENT.

4. IT IS THE STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK ON ESSAY

CONFORMATION IF THEY DON’T RECEIVE ONE.

5. TREAT EVERY MEMBER OF THIS CLASS WITH RESPECT.

(If ask to leave the class for disruptions or disrespect to follow

classmates or the instructor, you may not be allowed back

in and will receive an “F” for the course)

PREPARATION: SPEECHES AND WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS You will be required to deliver seven speeches. You will be evaluated on your skill in

selecting and researching a topic, organizing and delivering your speeches, and following

the instructor’s requirements.

All required paper work must be turned in on time or you will lose 20 points a day, for

the entire assignment. All written assignments must be typed (no spelling or grammatical

errors) using the current MLA style. If you fail to follow the instructions on your

assignment you will receive an “F”.

FINALS: PERSUASIVE SPEECH AND EXAM

NO MAKE-UP WILL BE GIVEN UNLESS IT IS AN EMERCENCY AND A NOTE

OR DOCUMENTATION CAN BE PROVIDED.

All required paper work must be turned in on time or you will receive a loss of 20 points

a day for the entire assignment. You have two class days to make a Test or Speech. Test

may be made-up at the Academic Secretary office (please schedule a time with her.) If

you need to make-up a speech please set-up a time with Ms. Garcia. Speeches will lose

additional points if they are not given in front of the class or audience.

All written work on speeches must be typed (no spelling or grammatical errors)

using the current MLA style for documentation and source pages.

If a student does not follow instructions you may receive a zero

for the assignment.

****Chapter reading assignments and chapter tests reviews are your

responsibility and should be done at home, or at least before class.*****
