She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. 8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. The Birth of Jesus Luke 2 NIV 1 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register. 4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son.

From the Desk of Jeff Kitson

January isn’t too far off and with the new year will come an invoice for 2018 Chamber dues. Never fear, no rate increases here. Again this year our member rates are staying put, allowing you to be a chamber member for a small amount of money.

When you receive your invoice please look it over and let us know if there is an error. If your employee count has gone up or down in 2017, please let us know and we will adjust your membership dues accordingly.

2018 is shaping up to be a “Construction Year” for Nappanee and I want to make sure that you are on board.

Please contact me at any time to discuss your thoughts and visions for Nappanee. My heart and ears are open to listening, and making changes that can benefit all of us. You may reach me at the office at 574-773-7812, e mail: [email protected], or on my cell at 574-354-7694. Our mailing address is: 302 W. Market Street, Nappanee, IN 46550 or you can stop by for a one on one visit.

Looking forward to Constructing the Future with you,

Jeff

Nappanee Open Door

The directors and staff of Nappanee Open Door would like to take this opportunity to ask for your support. Located in the old Train Depot in Nappanee, we are a totally voluntary, 501(c)(3) exempt organization helping to meet the needs of the people of the Wa-Nee School District.

From January thru October 31, 2017, we have served 813 families (2,535 people) with food. Families can come to us once a month to receive a box of food. Every box of food contains: cereal, crackers, peanut butter, potatoes, rice, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, Hamburger Helper, 2 cans of fruit, canned beans, 5 cans of vegetables, 2 cans of soup and macaroni and cheese. Then in addition, the box will also contain other items that have been donated. Patrons will also receive meat, bread, and fresh vegetables when on hand. This box of food is valued at approximately $35.

During the year we are connected to NIPSCO’s Winter Warmth Program. Through this program we have helped 31 families with disconnects. In addition, we have contributed monetarily to 14 families to reinstate their gas.

During the Christmas season we distribute approximately 100 Christmas baskets with the makings of a Christmas dinner for 4 people. These baskets will be valued at approximately $30.00 each.

It is through the support of our local community that we can continue to help make life a little easier for our fellow citizens. We thank you for your continued help and support.
