Details: Barrister Zafarullah Khan is serving as Secretary to the Government of Pakistan, Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights since October 21, 2013. He has 30 years of experience of working in diverse fields. He has served in Civil Services of Pakistan, has been a lawyer, consultant, writer and teacher. He joined the District Management Group of the Civil Services of Pakistan in 1987 and served in the Punjab and Sindh Provinces in various administrative and judicial capacities. He resigned from the Service in 2002 to work for Human Rights and Rule of Law. He has worked as legal and human rights consultant on women, children and labour issues with different UN organizations, INGOs and NGOs. He was the Chairman, Alternate Dispute Resolution Committee, Collectorate of Customs and Sales Tax, Faisalabad (2004-06). Barrister Ahmer Bilal Soofi (Key note Speaker)

Details: Mr. Ahmer Bilal Soofi is an LLM from the University of Cambridge UK in 1998. He is the Senior Partner of a well reputed law firm ABS & Co having its office in Lahore and Islamabad. His areas of expertise include High Courts and Supreme Court litigation and also transactional work. Mr. Soofi has appeared in several cases before the Supreme Court of Pakistan having national importance. He has also advised Government of Pakistan on several important legal issues. He is life member of Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan and the founding President of Research Society of International Law. He was elected as a Member Advisory Council of United Nations Human Rights Council for period of three years in March 2011. Mr. Soofi is also member of the Board of Governors of World Wide Fund for Nature Pakistan (WWF).

Mr. Ali Raza (Facilitator)

Details: Strategic thinking and results oriented professional experience in the corporate and development sector for the past eighteen years on varied projects ranging from technical civil engineering to management of multi-dimensional social and natural resources. A key contributor to the monitoring and evaluation, procurement and contract management of extensive civil engineering projects while employed on the World Bank funded project and a multinational construction firm. Ms. Seema Aziz (Key note Speaker)

Details: Ms. Seema Aziz is the Managing Director of Sefam Private Limited, Pakistan’s largest fashion retailer. She holds a Bachelor of Sciences and LLB degrees from the University of Punjab. She has also recently completed the prestigious OPM (Owner/President Management) program from Harvard Business School. Ms. Aziz is a prolific social activist. She is the Founder and Chairperson of CARE Foundation, the largest non-governmental organization in Pakistan with the aim of providing quality education to underprivileged children. CARE is currently running 234 schools all over Pakistan, educating over 160,000 children. Being actively involved in improving the educational opportunities for the children of Pakistan, she is on the board of multiple government and private bodies working in the sector. The CARE foundation is currently the world’s second largest school system.

Ms. Roshaneh Zafar (Facilitator)

Details: Ms. Roshaneh Zafar is the founder of KASHF Microfinance Bank Limited. She is the Managing Director at Kashf Foundation, which was founded by her in 1996. She serves as the Chairwoman of Kashf Holdings (Pvt) Limited and Director of KASHF Microfinance Bank Limited. Ms. Zafar worked with the World Bank for several years, was one of the first Ashoka Fellows in Pakistan and has been a Schwab Foundation Social Entrepreneur since 2004. She has been awarded Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship in 2007 and also Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan for her work in the field of development and women s empowerment. Ms. Zafar is a graduate of the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, USA and also holds a Masters degree in Development Economics from Yale University, USA.

Mr. Mosharraf Zaidi (Facilitator)

Details: Mosharraf Zaidi is the Campaign Director for Alif Ailaan - a political campaign addressing Pakistan's education crisis. Previously, he held senior positions with governments and various international organizations. His most recent government assignment was as advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Pakistan. He has also advised the United Nations, the European Union, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the UK Government's DFID, and the Danish and Swiss governments on policy issues in Afghanistan, Pakistan and the South Asia region. He was honored by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader in 2014. Mr. Zaidi writes a regular column for The News in Pakistan and frequently contributes to television and radio, including CNN, BBC, Al-Jazeera, PTV and Geo News.

Ms. Shahnaz Ali Wazir (Key note Speaker)

Details: Ms Shahnaz Wazir Ali holds a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Arkansas, USA and also a Master's Degree in Education Administration from Trenton College, New Jersey, USA. Also she has a Diploma in Principal's Certification from the Harvard University, Cambridge, USA. Her Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication is from the American University, Washington D.C. Ms Shehnaz Wazir Ali has been made new Chairperson of Higher Education Commission. The Chairman, HEC holds status of a Federal Minister. She is a social activist and was holding slot of Special Assistance to Prime Minister on Social Sector. Previously, she was Executive Director of the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy. She started her career as a primary school teacher in 1965 and held different positions in her life, e.g. a teacher; Principal, Lahore American School; MNA; Minister of State for Education; Special Assistant to former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and Senior Education Specialist in World Bank. After general elections 2008, Ms Shehnaz became MNA on women seat from Pakistan People Party. She is also member of National Assembly Standing Committees on Finance and Revenue; Economic Affairs & Statistics; and Planning & Development. She is also a Trustee of the Education Trust which runs Nasra Schools for children of low-income families in Karachi.

Dr. Baela Raza Jamil (Key note Speaker)

Details: Dr. Baela Raza Jamilis a public policy specialist former technical adviser Ministry of Education, Pakistan and activist in the education sector. She is currently leading the ASER Pakistan initiative (www.aserpakistan.org) with several partners and volunteers. Baela has worked extensively in the areas of quality education for all, school improvement programs, community based initiatives for education access and quality, popularizing early childhood education; district education planning, technical vocational training and livelihoods, through public private partnerships and corporate social responsibility (CSR) in three continents and across several countries. Her current focus is on scaling up programs that work in Pakistan. She is honorary Director Programs Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi(ITA); Director Institute for Professional Learning (IPL); Coordinator South Asia Forum For Education Development (SAFED) and Managing Trustee Sanjan Nagar Public Education Trust. She serves on several Boards across Pakistan including Pakistan Coalition for Education (PCE).Internationally, Baela Raza Jamil serves on the Global Monitoring Report (GMR) Advisory Board (UNESCO) and also as a member of Technical Advisory Group (TAG) of the UN Secretary General’s Education Initiative. Born in 1956, Baela grew up as the daughter of a well-known lawyer Raza Kazim. Her work in education began in UNICEF, where she was offered to work as a program officer for education, women, and children in vulnerable circumstances. This was when

she started becoming interested in the education system in Pakistan. Later, she joined Bristol University who needed a senior education advisor for some work in Faislabad’s urban slums. She wanted to work on policy level. In 1995, she joined the task force on education in Punjab where she was given some say in policy work but two years later moving to Sindh, she joined the Sindh Education Foundation with Anita Ghulamali, an expert in Education.

Ms. Marvi Sirmed (Facilitator)

Details: Marvi Sirmed is a renowned journalist, women right activist, blogger and a political commentator. She started her career in 1990s as a journalist associated with different national dailies. She has worked as a National Project Manager of Parliamentary Development project with UNDP and as Institutional Specialist with Ministry of Women Development. Her prime interests are in women activism. She has established many organizations for women in rural Punjab and Sindh. In 2000 she had the honour of association with Institution of Overseas Development and contributed towards Institute for Legislative Development and Transparency. She has been a founding force behind organizations as Women’s Action Forum, Insani Huqooq Forum, Pakistan India Peoples Forum and South Asia Free Media Association.

Dr. Fehmida Mirza (Key note Speaker)

Details: Dr. Fahmida Mirza, a seasoned parliamentarian of PPP from Badin constituency and a graduate of Liaquat Medical University, created history in 2008 when she was elected with over two-third majority, to become the 1st woman Speaker not only in Pakistan but in the entire Muslim world. Hailing from an influential political family, Dr. Fahmida Mirza is the Chief Patron of Women Parliamentary Caucus, Thalassemia Centre in Badin and Pakistan Autistic Society. She laid the foundation of this very building of PIPS as well thus strengthening parliamentary democracy. Apart from being an avid reader, she is widely regarded as the champion of welfare for abused and vulnerable groups of society. The country is proud of her contributions.

Dr. Nafisa Shah (Key note Speaker)

Details: Dr Nafisa Shah is a Member of National Assembly from Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) on Women Reserve Seat Sindh. She completed her O-Levels at St. Joseph’s Convent School and A-Levels at Karachi Grammar School. Upon finishing her undergraduate studies, Shah worked with News line and the Sustainable Development Policy Institute. During the tenure of Pakistan's PPP-led coalition government (2008–2013), she served as chair of the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) and General Secretary of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus. She has also been a member of parliamentary standing committees on Finance, Minorities, Economic Affairs and Statistics. Shah frequently writes for publications such as The Express Tribune and The News. Her opinions are often solicited on news channels including Dawn TV, ARY News, Express 24/7, GEO News Business Plus, Samaa TV, Dunya TV, BBC, CNN and others. Formerly, she was the Nazim (mayor) of Khairpur District.

Details: Ms. Khawar Mumtaz is the chairperson of National Commission on Status of Women (NCSW). She has been the right choice for this post because of her background in gender based issues. Due to her extensive work on issues such as reproductive health and gender equality, she has been able to win recognition among legislators, policy makers and development experts. Dr. Nabeela Ali (Key note Speaker)

Details: Dr. Nabeela is one of the most distinguished public health experts, strategic planners and implementers. She is a medical doctor with Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, USA. She has been working for the health and wellbeing of the people of Pakistan for the last 25 years in both public and private sectors. She is currently leading Pakistan Initiative for Mothers and Newborns (PAIMAN) - health and family planning project that is being implemented all over the country. Dr. Nabeela is also an active board member of several renowned national and international organizations including Technical Group on Neonatal Infections, WHO, Geneva; Advisory Group for International Best Practices (IBP) Global; Board of Governors Health Services Academy, Pakistan; Task force on Health for Health Minister of Pakistan; and Technical Advisory Group of Ministry of Health, Government of Pakistan. Dr. Nabeela has also had the distinction of presenting the successful experience of Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus Elimination Campaign, which she led in 64 districts of Pakistan, at the UN General Assembly Session 2002/2003.

Dr. Zeba A. Sathar (Key note Speaker)

Details: Dr. Zeba is currently Country Director, Population Council, in Pakistan since April 2002. She has Ph.D. Medical Demography from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 1982, M.Sc. Demography from London School of Economics in 1975 and B.A. Economics from Wellesley College, Massachusetts, USA, 1974. She has contributed to more than 22 books and has about 42 publications to her name. She has also written reports on various topics of her interest.

Details: Fahmida Iqbal Khan is presently working in the capacity of Community Mobilization & Networking Advisor with UNAIDS Country Office for Pakistan and Afghanistan. She is doing Ph.D. in Social Policy Management from CEDAW and System Thinking perspective. She did her M.Phil./ MS in Management Sciences (Gold Medalist) and M.Sc. in Political Studies (Gold Medalist). Apart from this, she is also a medical practitioner being Radionics Radiesthesia Analyst in Homeopathic Medical Sciences. . She also worked with UN Women as Programme Specialist- Women and Peace Programme. She has diverse field of expertise of more than 14 years in HIV/ AIDS, Maternal Health, Women and Peace, community resilience, conflict resolution and peace building. She is having extensive knowledge on international treaties like UNSCR 1325, UNCAT, CEDAW, UDHR. She worked tirelessly to address violence against women and girls issues and anti-discriminatory practices and legislations. She has membership from national and international partners to address issues related to VAW and GBV. She has also successfully launched and concluded One Million Signatures Campaign to bring women voice to policy making. She is doing Ph.D. in Social Policy Management from CEDAW and System Thinking perspective. She did her M.Phil./ MS in Management Sciences (Gold Medalist) and M.Sc. in Political Studies (Gold Medalist). Details: Mr. Mushahid Hussain is a politician, academician and a journalist. He holds a Master’s degree from the School of Foreign Service of Georgetown University in Washington DC. Prior to becoming a politician, he taught at Punjab University and was a member of faculty at the Pakistan Administrative Staff College. He served as the Editor of The Muslim. He has been contributing to various national and international publications in the past. He is also author of three books on Pakistan’s foreign policy and domestic politics. Dr. Maryam Mallick (Key note Speaker)

Details: Currently working with World Health Organization as Technical Advisor, Medical Rehabilitation, since 2005. A Public Health professional and a Medical Rehabilitation specialist with a post-graduation from the Royal College of Physicians London in 1999.A pioneer in establishing the Polio Rehabilitation Initiative in Pakistan, Yemen and Afghanistan for polio affected children and introducing Community Based Rehabilitation programme after the 2005 earthquake. Provided technical support to ERRA, NDMA& NHEPRN on Health emergencies during disasters. As technical advisor to Cabinet Division (2011-2012) was part of the team that lead the devolution process of health and establishment of the Drug Regulatory Authority Pakistan (DRAP) etc. She has also been credited for formulating the first legislation, Pakistan Disability Bill and establishing CBID Network for disabilities. In recognition of her achievements, she was awarded the Fatima Jinnah Medal in the category of outstanding women working in the field of Medical Rehabilitation by the Government of Pakistan in 2004.
