Spanish Lesson 5: Numbers 1-10 Duration: approximately 30-40 minutes (may be divided into two lessons depending on time)

This lesson introduces the numbers 1-10 and uses song and movement to practice the numbers. Translations of

key words is included in this lesson for the instructor. Students should be encouraged to use only Spanish.

1. Play this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6ojH4UU_qk

Here are the lyrics in Spanish and English:

Spanish English Con mis dedos, contaré. (3x) ¡Cuenten conmigo!

With my fingers, I will count. (3x) Count with me! One, two, three fingers, four, five, six fingers, seven, eight, nine fingers, ten fingers, they are ten. With my hands, I will clap. (3x) Clap with me! One, two, three claps, four, five, six claps, seven, eight, none claps, ten claps, they are ten. With my feet I'll jump. (3x) Jump with me! One, two, three jumps, four, five, six jumps, seven, eight, nine jumps, ten jumps, they are ten.

Encourage the students to sing along while clapping, applauding and jumping. Play the video a couple

times until students have some command of the numbers.

2. Students will work to complete a worksheet in which they practice the numbers by tracing each word in

Spanish and then drawing a picture that represents each number in the boxes provided.

3. Students will then work in pairs or small groups to play “Memory” with the numbers from 1-10. During

the game students will try to match the digit with a card depicting the corresponding number. When

they make a match they must say the number in Spanish. Teachers may alter the game as necessary

depending on ability levels in their class. (Cards are on a separate document. The teacher can print and

cut out the cards prior to the lesson.

4. Conclude the lesson by completing one or some of the following quick activities to review and reinforce:

Sing the song while watching the video. Then turn off the Smartboard so students can only hear

the song without seeing it. Try singing the song without the visual help from the video.

Teacher can hold up a number of items and ask the students to say how many he/she is holding

in Spanish.

Sitting in a small circle (or class circle) students will practice counting off in Spanish from 1-10.

See how many times you can go around the circle without making a mistake.
