Buenos Aires 2013

Gizelle : Languages for Life “I had a great time in BA, in part because it’s just a great city, but also because of the school. They organised so many activities; city tours, cooking lessons, museum tours, trips to bars, tango shows, football matches & barbecues. The weekend trips to the Tigre delta, Mendoza & Cordoba were also excellent. And the staff were always happy to help. It’s the perfect school to improve your Spanish and also a really easy place to meet a lot of nice people!” Jennifer: Spanish & Tango “Tango classes are the perfect antidote to Spanish grammar, and Buenos Aires is the perfect place to learn! Okay so I’ll never take the dancing world by storm, but having seen the dancers in the street, and visited the tango shows, I’m glad I had a go!” Jess: Languages for Life “For anyone who gets the chance to just pack their bag and go on a Spanish language course in Buenos Aires I say please do it. You won’t regret it!”

Gizelle: Intensive Course “Admittedly before the course I thought that the school policy of only speaking Spanish would be impossible to comply with, it wasn’t and this policy benefited me as I was familiarised with the language. Throughout the course there was an excellent teacher to student interaction also as the teachers were able to master the art of being both professional and sociable. I was amazed at the beauty of the campus, it was almost as if I had stepped into the Garden of Eden: there was lush greenery and beautiful buildings all around. The students were very friendly and the teachers were excellent. They really made an effort to help students enjoy the experience of learning Spanish. The situation of the school in Cuernavaca was another bonus due to the good weather and friendly city atmosphere..” Mr Parker: Private Tuition (15) “I only had a week to spare, but was delighted with the results. CESA was efficient and prompt in helping answer all my questions. The college staff were friendly and the teachers in Cuernavaca were positive and keen to help.”

Barbara: Standard Course “Both the student house and the school were in a great area and very close to the Plaza de Armas. The staff in Cusco was so friendly and helpful. Everyday there was something fun planned, from horseback, riding in the nearby ruins, to shopping at the local markets. At night I felt comfortable going out with the group, and the places we went to were very nice. One night there was even a live band that I loved. I also went to Machu Picchu, and even though I didn't go with the school, they were so very helpful in planning my trip. I highly recommend doing the entire Inca Trail as there are many impressive ruins along the way, but ending at Machu Picchu was the best. My only regret is that I wish I could've had more time there!” Andrea: Standard Course “Peru was very exciting. Besides good food, Peru offers beautiful scenery and an interesting culture. The Inca temple and other works in Cusco and its surroundings, like Machu Picchu or the Sacred Valley, are impressive. I recommend everyone travels to Peru.”

CESA Plus Points: Cusco: Spanish colonial architecture stands astride monolithic ruined Inca palaces ~ the “must do” is the Inca Trail to Maccu Pichu, ~ Plaza de Armas, is at the heart of the city, with the majority of sights within walking distance (the Inca Sun Temple, the Plaza San Francisco, the central market and the Iglesia de Santa Clara to name a few) ~ try and visit the Museo de Arte Precolombino, the stunning Inca-walled street of Calle Triunfo & the artisan quarter of San Blas ~ discover the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman ~ Cusco is a lively city for nightlife, with bars & restaurants galore ~ the friendly nature of the people (despite the Inca trail tourists) is a real plus point for language students!

Cusco College: Wonderful central location in the historic heart of Cusco ~ ideal for adults & Gappers year round ~ small group courses ~ special Summer Spanish & Culture programme ~ High quality tuition and great student care ~ Excellent hosts ~ fabulous trips and excursions offered.

CESA Plus Points:

Lima: You can also contemplate the architecture, enjoy the pounding surf of the Pacific waves, savour Peruvian cooking and get to know the local people. In the last century, many of its richest families built summer houses in the seaside suburbs of Miraflores & Barranco, then well outside the city centre. Miraflores is a perfect base from which to visit the rest of Lima. Parque Kennedy, a pretty tree-lined park, surrounded by pavement cafes, offers a sanctuary from the noise and pollution of the city centre ~ Miraflores has a large multiplex cinema, a number of excellent shops selling local arts and crafts.

Lima College: Wonderful central location in Miraflores just a couple of blocks for the beach ~ ideal for adults & Gappers year round ~ small group courses ~ special Spanish & Surfing or Volunteer programmes ~ High quality tuition in a small school ~ Excellent hosts.

Michael: Standard Course “I definitely recommend spending time in Lima.. As a general matter, Peruvians speak good Spanish, so it’s a good place to learn. In addition, the school in Miraflores is very good. The teachers and staff are not only good at their jobs, they are also genuinely nice (and fun) people – I consider my teacher, the director and the activities director friends now (and I think everyone in the school had a similar experience). I spent time at the sister colleges in Santiago, Buenos Aires, and I am very glad I did the Lima portion. Obviously, each place is different culturally. In many ways Lima is the most different culturally from home, so that made it even more interesting and rewarding!” Amy: Spanish & Surf “"I loved my time in Lima. Spanish lessons were great, our teacher made the lessons interesting and fun which made studying Spanish more enjoyable. I especially enjoyed my surf lessons in the afternoon, its the perfect way to unwind after vocab lessons.”

Languages for Life As Standard programme, in-depth study over an extended period ensuring better mastery, subtler understanding and far greater long-term retention of key language skills. Very popular with GAP students prior to University, graduates and adults looking to take a career break. Spanish & Skiing Combine your studies with skiing ~ mid June to late September. Includes travel to slopes + two days per week lift passes (one valid for weekend), not ski hire. Lessons lost on week days are compensated by two 1:1 private lessons to cover missed topics. No college guide accompanies the ski trips. Nearby peaks rise to over 5,000 meters (19,000 feet), giving the city a remarkable backdrop. Spanish & Volunteering See information on line for more details.

Learn Spanish in Santiago, the capital of Chile, nestled in the foothills of the Andes. Chile has Latin America's highest standard of living. Santiago is the vibrant, political and cultural heart of Chile. Beneath the mammoth backdrop of the Andes lies a curious mix of soaring skyscrapers, neoclassical architecture, Spanish colonial bungalows, and dignified boulevards. With Santiago sitting at the foot of the Andes, the capital city provides great access for local skiing and snowboarding opportunities. The programme is divided into 12 levels of study. The first eight are concentrated on grammar, vocabulary, practical situations, and conversation. The next levels, advanced and superior, focus mainly on conversation and advanced reading and writing topics. Each level is theoretically two weeks in duration (depending on student progress) and a written exam must be passed in order to advance. The school is located in a residential neighbourhood close to restaurants, bars & cafes. Facilities include: a large common area with TV, DVD player and audio equipment, 13 classrooms and a computer room, a front yard great to relax or study in, + a back yard, car park, TV room, kitchen and a large outdoor patio used as a BBQ area with a ping-pong table. The college has proved very popular with Gap Year and graduate students, the Spanish & Skiing is also popular, whilst students following courses for career or personal reasons are also well catered for.

CESA Plus Points:

Santiago: Santiago residents enjoy a Mediterranean climate ~ many of the city's main attractions are located in the small downtown area sandwiched between the Rio Mapocho (Mapocho River), Avenida Bernardo O'Higgins (the Alameda) and Cerro Santa Lucía ~ including colonial churches, lively markets, colourful street life and a surprisingly varied restaurant scene and nightlife ~ the snow-capped mountains are within easy reach, while the city's position halfway up is perfect for visiting the many vineyards dotted around the city ~ explore Santiago's popular night life in the Bellavista district (the city's artistic quarter) in the Barrio Brasil (an old part of town with turn-of-the-20th-century architecture and a lively student population) or the middle-class district of Ñuñoa (gaining in popularity as a place for a night out among those disaffected by the kitsch of Bellavista). Santiago College: A relaxed college atmosphere, high quality courses, across a wide range of ability levels ~ ideal for adults & Gappers year round ~ excellent situation in residential area ~ Very student friendly college.

Santiago 2013

Jonathan : Languages for Life /16wks “The lessons were well planned and presented, with a good mix of textbook learning and oral practice. The school was very pleasant. The staff were very helpful if I had a problem, and the teachers were brilliant. The best part of the course was being asked to translate for a waiter to a tourist in a café in the central plaza! The other students were really nice. I made some great friends. The activities were fun, but a little repetitive. I would have loved to go on a few more weekend trips. The main areas of Santiago were fine, with a little petty crime, but generally safe. Going out was fun. The nightlife was good – loads of places to go in different areas, Bodeguero!” Rachel: Standard Course “My three weeks flew by! Thanks CESA I had a fantastic time and you were so quick to deal with my emails – very reassuring! I meet some amazing people in Santiago and got to improve my Spanish in class, and practise everything a lot out of class. Wish I could have stayed longer !”

With over 12 years of teaching experience, and between 25 /40 students studying each month the college offers a relaxed but serious study environment, catering for all language levels. Located in an Andean valley, Cuenca is a town of striking contrast. It has successfully preserved its colonial past from its cobbled streets, churches, pre-Hispanic ruins, museums, and colourful Indian markets. Colonial Cuenca is just across the Tomebamba River from modern day Cuenca with modern office buildings, art galleries and two universities. Home to many scholars and artists of Ecuador, Cuenca is said to be the “Athens of Ecuador.” Relatively undiscovered by English speaking tourists, this programme offers an excellent opportunity to learn Spanish. The school is in a quiet residential district, with several commercial areas nearby, with shops and restaurants for students to explore. It is in a converted house, surrounded by gardens and has seven classrooms and a very nice cafeteria, where students can connect their laptops for free WiFi service. The garden is a great place for students to relax and study and sometimes becomes a venue for classes, barbecues and small parties. The college primarily attracts students (18yrs+) and adults looking to improve their Spanish, be it for career, academic or personal reasons.

Accommodation Arrive: Sunday PM Depart: Saturday AM NB: Accommodation is generally within 10 to 20 mins walking distance of the college. Option 1 Host family, single room, full-board. CESA Plus Points: Ecuador: It is worth taking some time to explore Ecuador. Almost all students spend several days or weeks travelling through the Ecuadorian sierras, jungles and beaches after their course. The Ecuadorians are friendly and hospitable, and a network of buses connects the country, taking adventurous travellers to exotic and fascinating places. For a few dollars you can find a room in a simple and clean hotel or hostel. Galapagos is a dream come true for any nature lover. Excursions to the Galapagos are expensive and prices, including air fare, and accommodation start at 800 US$ (4 days/3 nights). Cuenca: Cuenca and its surrounding region are rich in history, with a colonial atmosphere that has survived thanks to years of almost complete isolation. Cuenca is a city of fascinating contrasts: two universities, museums and art galleries stand alongside Indian markets rarely visited by foreigners. College: Ideal for all abilities and ages, from 18yrs+ to adults looking for a great course in a wonderful location, overlooking the Barranco River ~ centrally located with good facilities and excellent teachers ~ Additional programmes are a real draw, particularly the Arts and Volunteering options.

Lucy: Standard Course “I loved the school. I was impressed by the organisation, the standard of the teachers and the extra curricula activities i.e. cooking classes, regional and Latin American dance classes and full day excursions to craft villages such as Gualaceo and Chordeleg, the Cajas Natural park and a trip up in to mountainous jungle. Lessons were intensive and concentrated on grammar, oral work and consolidating lessons which tested what we covered that day – we also had homework every night, which was a novelty for a Uni graduate! At the end of the course I had improved way beyond lapsed A-level ability of school days.” Jack: Standard Course “I definitely improved my all round Spanish langue and grammar but I also felt the course set me up perfectly for travelling around South America for the 4 months afterwards. The lessons and particularly the teaching were excellent, I was particularly happy with the rotation of teachers, not due to poor teaching but because it kept things fresh and interesting. The lessons in general were varied and interesting ant totally different to anything I had done before. The school was in an absolutely ideal location in Cuenca, near to everything and 15 minutes walk from my host family. I felt entirely comfortable with all the staff both in and out of lessons.”
