The basic challenge in sociology is to understand others and ourselves more fully. Sociology asks us to probe beneath the surface and to question why people behave as they do, especially in group situations. Using the sociological perspective we question the taken-for- granted, ask why our society operates as it does, and question how our social arrangements could be different.
