SOCIALIST COMPET IT ION IN HONOR OF THE 50th ANNIVERSARY
OF THE UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBL ICS
The builders of the Zeya hydro development have launched a socialist competition in honor of the 50thanni- versary of the formation of the USSR for the successful fulfillment of the jubilee year plan. The semiannual results showed fl~.at the plato and quotas are being fulfilled successfully by the builders. The Zeya River was successfully dammed in October, The plan of comtruction and assembly work on the whole for the Zeya Hydroelectric Station Construction Administration (Zoyag&stroi) during the six months was fulfilled by 107.8~ the workers carried out construction and assembly work amounting to 11,316,000 rubles as compared with 10,270, 000 rubles according to the plan, i.e., 110.2~ the output per worker was 100.7~ Based on the results of the first half-year the collective of builders was awarded first place among builders of the Amur region. Based on the results of work during the second quarter it was awarded second place in the All-Union socialist competition by joint decision of the Board of the Ministry of Power and Electrification of the USSR and Central Committee of trade unions of workers of power plants and the electrical-enginecring industry.
The Bureau of the regional committee of the CPSU, executive committee of the Council of Workers' Deputies, and the presidium of fl~e regional council of trade unions examined the results of the socialist competition between cities, industrial regions, and construction and design organizations during the second quarter of 1072 and awarded Z~yagSsstroi the Challenge Red Banner of the regional committee of the CPSU, regional executive committe, and regional trade union council as the victor among construction organizations of the region, for fulfilling the general contract plan by 119.3% and quotas on increase of labor productivity by 101.0%; 15,000 rubles of profit in excess of the plan was obtained, and living space of more than 8000 m z as opposed to 4533 m z according to the plan was put into service. The builders of the Zeya hydro development have been working at a high rate also during the second half of the jubilee year.
The builders of the Toktogul'sk hydro development consider their most important task to be the fulfillment of socialist pledges made in honor of the 50th anniversary of the formation of the USSR by increasing the produc- t ivi~ of labor, employing new techniques and using more effectively machines and equipment, and conducting further mechanization of labor-consuming processes.
Summarizing the results of fulfilling the half-year socialist pledges in honor of this noteworthy date, the collective of builders of the Naryn Hydropower Construction Administration (Naryngidro~uergostroi) reported that the plan of construction and assembly operations was fulfilled by 106.99o, including by 109.3~ by their own ef- forts. Since the beginning of the year 390, 000 m s of concrete had been poured into the dam and power house of the hydroelectrical station; during the half-year 7759 m z of housing had been put into service.
High production has been achieved by the collectives of builders of the main structures administration, State All-Union Construction and Installation Trust (Gidromontazh), construction mechanization administration, motor transport office, and State Specialized Trust for Hydropower InsinUations (Spetsgidro~nergomontazh).
The competition for communist labor was the driving force in the struggle for a worthy celebration of the 50th anniversary of the formation of the USSR and fulfillment of socialist pledges at the construction of the Toktogul'sk hydro development. As oflune 1, 1972, 3303 persons, 1432 schock workers of communist labor, and
brigades of communist labor were employed at the construction site; in addition, 41 persons are striving for the title of shock worker of communist labor.
The best results in the socialist competition during the second quarter of 1972 were achieved by the brigades of assemblers from the No. 2 construction administration (Brigadier, B. P. Kotsefan), the communist labor brigade of tunnelers from the Siam All-Union Trust for the Stabilization of Foundations and Structures (Gidrc6petsstroi) (Brigadier, A. Kuznetsov), and the combined brigade of bulldozer operators from the construction mechanization administration (Brigadier, A. I. Kurashov).

In the socialist competition during the second quarter of 1972, first place among the construction divisions was won by the collective of the travelling mechanized column of Naryngidro~nergostroi (chief, Comrade ~l'gibaev, chairman of the construction committee, Comrade Zventsov, secretary of the party organization, Comrade Basyrov). Among the subsidiary plants first place was won by the collective of the motor transport office (chief. Comrade Dobroworskii, chairman of the local committee, Comrade Okhrimenko. secretary of the party organization, Comrade Bardabakov); among the subcontracting organizations first place was won by a department of Gidromontazh (chief, Comrade Nikitin, chairman of the local committee, Comrade Dmitrochenko, and secretary of the parry organiza- tion, Comrade Gnedkov).
For a further creative improvement of the forms and methods of socialist competition in honor of the 50th anniversary of the formation of the USStL the builders of Naryngidro~ergostroi have created initiative groups and have employed improved methods of publicizing and comparing the results of the socialist competition, conditions of moral and material stimulation of those comperin~ and forms of accounting and reporting the results of the competition.
The collective of builders of the Takhiamsh hydro development, inspired by the resolution of the Central Committee of the CPSU, Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR, Council of Ministers of the USSR, and All-Union Central Trade Union Council, "Concerning the Procedure of Summarizing the Results of the All-Union Socialist Competition for Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Formation of the Union of Soviet Socialist Repub- lics and Concerning Measures of Rewarding the Victors in This Competition," has made socialist pledges for the worthy celebration of the 50th anniversary of the formation of the USSR and pledged to put the hydro development on the Amu-Dar'ya River into service ahead of schedule, which will increase the discharge of water into the main canals to 1000-1100 mS/see and expand irrigated lands for cotton, rice, and other crops from the present 161,000 ha to 643,000 ha with the starmp of this hydro devdopment. Among the pledges are the successful fulfillment of the 1972 plan and the prescheduled startup of the first line of the hydro development by April 22, 1973 (the birthday of V. I. Lenin). To fulfill these tasks the builders during the second half-year must perform 2,100,000 m s of ex- cavation work, place 100,000 m s of filters and stone, plaee 72,000 m s of concrete and reinforced concrete i~ the main structures of the hydro development, drive 195 pipe pries, assemble 4200 tons of steel sections, and drive 1860 tons of steel sheet piling.
During the first half of 1972, out of the total volume of work on the starting complex of the hydro develop- ment. amounting to 77,3 million rubles, 52.5 million rubles has been accomplished since the start of construction, 13.8 million m s of excavation work has been done, more than 150,000 m s of filters and stone has been placed, 175,000 m s of concrete and precast reinforced concrete has been placed, " and 3300 tons of steel sections has been assembled. During the first six months of 1972, 7,695,000 rubles of investments was utilized, 43,200 m s of con- crete and reinforced concrete was plaeed, 47, 500 m s of filters and stone was laid, and 1077 tons of steel sections was assembled.
As a result the bottom slab, first level of the piers and abutting walls of the ups~eam pool, first and second parts of the energy dissipator, and first part of the apron have been completely concreted. Concreting of the second level of the piers and abutting walls of the downstream pool has started. Driving of the steel sheet piling and assembly of the radial gates have begun on t.he dam,and the spans for assembling the beams of the road bridge have been prepared. Construction of the stream-deflecting embankments of the upper pool and 1 km of the left embankment of the lower pool has been completed.
