Presented by Arman Abednia (SOAR Ambassador) Fortunately, many books have been published in social sciences and humanities on how to do research in different paradigms, such as qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, and critical. Unfortunately, many of them do not explain the underlying differences between these paradigms and only compare them methodologically. Some others bombard us with complicated explanations about the ontological and epistemological bases of these paradigms, so we choose to avoid them! In this workshop, SOAR Ambassador Arman Abednia will use his experience of conducting, supervising, and teaching research, to engage you in a lively discussion about the fundamental differences between research paradigms in terms of their ontological, epistemological, and methodological features. He will use simple language, tangible examples of his own and others’ research, and some hands-on tasks to make the session practically useful. If you actively avoid these complicated concepts, this is the right workshop for you!

Research paradigms in social sciences & humanities

MADE EASY!

Presented by Arman Abednia (SOAR Ambassador)

Fortunately, many books have been published in social sciences and humanities on how to do

research in different paradigms, such as qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, and critical.

Unfortunately, many of them do not explain the underlying differences between these paradigms

and only compare them methodologically. Some others bombard us with complicated explanations

about the ontological and epistemological bases of these paradigms, so we choose to avoid them!

In this workshop, SOAR Ambassador Arman Abednia will use his experience of conducting,

supervising, and teaching research, to engage you in a lively discussion about the fundamental

differences between research paradigms in terms of their ontological, epistemological, and

methodological features. He will use simple language, tangible examples of his own and others’

research, and some hands-on tasks to make the session practically useful. If you actively avoid

these complicated concepts, this is the right workshop for you!
