Our goal is to feed ourselves daily by reading the Bible and allowing the Lord to speak to us.

Using your SOAP Bible Reading Plan, find the Scriptures for today.

Read today’s passage and open your heart to hear from the Lord.

In your journal, record what the Lord has shown you.

In the Table of Contents, write the date and scrip-ture for the day. Create a short title for your entry and include the page number so that you can refer back to it in the future.

Quick TipYou may get distracted while reading the day’s passage. When thoughts like the shop-ping list, the day’s activities, or the forgotten task distract you, use your notepad and write the thought down. This way you won’t forget it and it doesn’t have to take your attention away from the passage you are reading. Once you write the thought down, immediately refocus on your passage and SOAP.

S John 1:48 How do you know me? Nathanael asked. Jesus an-swered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree be-fore Philip called you.”

Jesus is calling his disciples. His invitation is, “follow me.“ He calls Philip first. Philip “found” Nathanael and brings him to Jesus. When he gets to Jesus, Jesus identifies him as a true Israelite and speaks about his character. Jesus says there is nothing false in him. Nathanael ask how do you know me? Jesus saw him before he got there and Jesus knew his heart while he was still away from Him.

The Lord sees me when I am lost! When I can’t see him. Before I see some evidence of His presence. When I feel lost, he sees me and calls me to him. He knows my heart - even when I am away from Him. He knows my heart and still calls me to Him.

Thank you Father for loving me. Thank you for loving me and coming for me when I stray away and walk away from you. Thank you for seeing me when I cannot see you. I love you, Lord. Amen.

S.O.A.P. READING EXAMPLE

Write down the one scripture the Lord used to speak to you.

Write down the context of the scripture. Who is talking? Where is this taking place? What is happening?

Write down what God is saying to you. What is He show-ing you about you? What truth is He revealing in you? Your response should be personal and written in the 1st person singular.

Write a short prayer about what you have uncovered in your heart.

This year we will be reading S.O.A.P. by the different genres:

1. The Law:  Books that give instructions for living.  Books: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

2. Narrative: These books focus on history or stories that capture the life experiences of others.  Books: Joshua, Judg-es, Ruth, 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings, 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Acts.

3. Wisdom/Poetry Literature: Deals with the best way to live life well. Books: *Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Job, and *Song of Solomon.

4. Prophets: These books let Israel know God’s message to His people. Books: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi.

5. Letters: Physical letters written to groups or churches to share theology, church challenges, instructions, and relational dynamics.  Books: Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 and 2 Thessa-lonians, 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James, 1 and 2 Peter, 1, 2, and 3 John, Jude, and Revelation.* 

*Notes: • Revelation was sent as a letter but is also placed in the genre of Apocalyptic.• Sometimes portions of Psalms and Song of Solomon are included
