Land Rover driversget a new perspective
LAND ROVER has unveilednew technology that lets off-road drivers effectively seethrough the bonnet all theway to the ground.
Cameras mounted on thefront grille film the terrainand transmit the feed to aheads-up display for the driv-er. The alignment is set up toperfectly match the real an-gle of view beyond the bon-net, creating seamless vis-ibility right back to the car’swheels.
When climbing steep hillsit’s sometimes difficult toknow exactly where thewheels are and the state ofthe terrain beneath them.
The Vision Concept tech-nology, nicknamed the Trans-parent Bonnet by its creators,gives full visual informationto make the climb easier –including the angles of thefront wheels.
Dr Wolfgang Epple, directorof research and technologyfor Jaguar Land Rover, said:“We believe the next 25 yearswill be the most exciting anddynamic the automotive in-dustry has ever experienced.There will be huge strides inenvironmental innovation,in safety and capability.
“As our vehicles becomemore capable and autono-mous off-road, we will ensurethe driver has the confidenceto allow the car to continue toprogress, over any terrain.
“We are developing newtechnologies including theTransparent Bonnet to givedrivers an augmented viewof reality to help them tackleanything.”
The first time would-be cus-tomers can get their hands onthe system will be at the NewYork Motor Show on April 16.
