    Answer Search Tips

    General Search Tips

    Type your search terms--a question, a phrase, a series of words, or just a single word--in the "Find the

    answer to your question" field, select a product or do not enter a value to search all products, and then

    click the Search button.

    Search Options

    Wild Cards (*) - search for patterns where you know how a word starts, but not how it ends. The

    asterisk covers all possible extensions.

    Example: Entering RIS_E_INV* would find content such as RIS_E_INV  _OPEN_DB or 

    RIS_E_INV  _OPEN_DBOWNER.

    Require a Word (+) - immediately precede the word with a plus (+).

    Example 1: Typing +database +oracle would return answers containing both database and oracle.Example 2: Typing database +oracle would return answers containing oracle with or without the

    word database.

    Exclude a Word (-) - immediately precede the word with a dash/minus (-).

    Example: Entering database –oracle would return answers containing database without oracle.

    Search Containing a Minus/Dash - enclose the phrase in quotes only if there is a space

    before the dash/minus.

    Example 1:"-mw" 

     –

     returns answers containing–

    mw Example 2: ora-12560 , quotes would not be needed.

    Synonyms (~) - immediately precede the word with a tilde (~)

    Example: Typing account  will return answers containing account  , bill  , and invoice.

    Combination of Search Functions

    Example: smart* +vault –VM -document  will return answers that:

    Contain the word vault 

    Could have a word that begins with smart 

    Will not have the word VM  nor document  in the answer
