“ I would just like to say thank you. Thank you for giving all of us an opportunity to share our passion with others and to convey the joy we feel when singing to our audience. Thank you for helping us change people’s lives. Thank you for letting us change our own lives with music.”

LETTERDear friends of The St. Louis Children’s Choirs:

OGETHER WITH OUR amazing staff, volunteers and young singers, 2014-15 marked great growth and increased community outreach for The St. Louis Children’s Choirs!

Over 20,000 community members embraced our gift of song. Our 447 students performed at seven seasonal con-certs, and many also sang with the Bach Society, the Drake University Choir, and at a premiere performance at the Pulitzer Contemporary Arts Museum. The Choirs’ Summer Music Camp for elementary students had a record enrollment of 30 young singers, and 24 high school singers enrolled in our new Vocal Jazz Camp. And in June, members of Concert Choir became young St. Louis ambassadors during a tour that included performances in Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic.

Outreach and inclusion continued as a high priority of the Choirs. Last season, SLCC increased financial support for students from low-income families. We also introduced Music Made Together, a new program which provided professional development for music teachers and students in the under-resourced districts of Normandy, Riverview Gardens, and St. Louis City Public Schools.

We have been very busy. Chances are you have seen us out and about St. Louis…

■ We partnered with students of Washington University’s Olin Marketing Communications Client Project class (MCCP), who contributed wonderful ideas for improving the Choirs’ brand recognition and outreach messaging, many of which are already being implemented.

■ Board Member and RAF announcer, Kathy Lawton Brown, conducted a lovely interview with Barbara Berner on her radio program.

■ With board member Charlotte Bohlmann’s leadership and the hard work of staff and volunteers, the SLCC Trivia Night raised a record $16K—despite a raging snowstorm!

■ Choir parent and volunteer, Alec Wild, produced a stirring video highlighting the community impact of our Serving St. Louis through Song performances (see https://vimeo.com/137278701).

■ We installed a 29-foot window display in the baggage claim area of Terminal 1 of Lambert St. Louis International Airport (with thanks to parent volunteer, Asa Wild).

What is the reason for our great success? You! You helped us “shape young lives through musical excellence.” You helped make a positive impact on children and adults throughout St. Louis. Together, we united, transformed, healed, inspired, and filled hearts with hope.

Now that’s something worth singing about!

“ It’s always a pleasure to work with The St. Louis Children’s Choirs, and I go out of my way each season to find repertoire in which they can participate. They are among the best children’s choirs that I have found in my travels around the globe.”

SHARING THE POWER OF MUSIC

Community EngagementThe goal of the Choirs is to become an organization which represents the rich diversity of the entire St. Louis Region. In 2014-2015, we served and inspired students from 85 zip codes and 196 schools across St. Louis. We also expanded engagement and inclusion activities, allowing us to serve more under-resourced schools through our life-changing music programs.

■ Music Conducting Workshop – This professional development series helps music educators improve teaching and conducting skills and receive advanced accreditation. Credit may be earned through Webster University. Scholarships are available to teachers from under-resourced schools.

■ Music Made Together – In partnership with St. Louis Public Schools, this new professional development program is designed to help music educators and their students strengthen their choral conducting and singing skills.

■ Music Careers Workshop – This workshop includes an expert panel providing information to students interested in professional career paths in music.

■ Audition Workshop and Masterclass – This free public workshop prepares music students and their parents for the college music application and audition process.

■ Vocal Jazz Camp – This two-week summer camp for high school age singers immerses students in our nation’s rich jazz heritage.

■ Summer Music Camp – This fun one-week camp for students entering grades 3-6 provides an introduction to choral singing.

MUSIC BENEFITS ARTISTIC, EMOTIONAL AND INTELLECTUAL GROWTH

Research demonstrates powerful academic, social and emotional benefits to children participating in quality music education programs. These benefits are particularly profound in underserved children, an audience the Children’s Choirs is committed to including.

…THROUGHOUT ST. LOUISSERVING ST. LOUIS THROUGH SONG

Every April, select ensembles perform in community outreach concerts for underserved audiences across metro St. Louis. Many of the people we reach would not otherwise hear and participate in live choral performances. With support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Children's Choirs brings the joy of singing to students and adults while engaging them in the creative process of choral performance.

Outreach & Inclusion In 2015, nine interactive performances were held for 1,870 students, educators and community members at:

■ Bayless Elementary

■ Holy Cross Academy

■ Normandy Schools Collaborative (Jefferson, Barack Obama, Lucas Crossing, and Washington elementary schools)

■ Long Elementary

■ Pershing Elementary

■ The Wilson School

■ Griscom Juvenile Detention Center School

■ Laclede Groves Senior Living

■ St. Louis Children’s Hospital
