My horse is awesome,” said 22-year-old Hailey Kinsel of Cotulla, Texas, after topping the qualifying round of RFD-Tv’s The American, presented by Polaris Ranger. Just hours later, Kinsel and her 6-year-old mare DM Sissy Hayday (“Sister”) won the $100,000-barrel racing championship and split a third of the $1 million bonus awarded to the qualifying contestant that won their respective events. Her $433,333 paycheck was the richest payout received by any barrel racer ever. She also won $23,273 for placing third at the Semifinals Rodeo in Fort Worth for total earnings of $456,606. “I just really wanted to make two good run there,” said the senior at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. “I wanted my horse to do well. I wanted it to be a good experience for her. I wanted to make my runs count. I honestly didn’t think about the money or making the final four or anything. I think that’s how I stayed calm enough to ride well.” Kinsel was just thankful to be there, point to the fact that she drew up between multiple WPRA World Champion Sherry Cervi and two-time American Champion Lisa Lockhart. “That was enough to be thankful for right there,” she said. At the time, the Kinsel and her mother Leslie had been riding Sister’s 4-year-old maternal half-sister. “My mom and I were really loving this mare and knew she was really talented, so we asked Dillion if he still had the mare and if he had any more babies out of her, or if he’d be willing to sell the broodmare. He had just sold the mare. He had one baby left and was putting her in the sale,” Kinsel said. Knowing that the filly was by Dinero helped too. “We always have in the back of our mind, can they make a ranch horse, can they make a rope horse in case they don’t make a barrel horse,” she added. Still it was “leap of faith” to purchase Sister at the sale, Kinsel said. “We hadn’t seen her or tried her at all, which is very unlike us,” she admitted. “We rarely buy anything that we don’t try, but we e American Continued on Page 4 THATS SISSY BABY DM SISSY HAYDAY ROYAL QUICK DASH SI 101 ROYAL SISSY IRISH ROYAL SHAKE EM SI 104 2011 PALOMINO MARE SHAKE EM SIX SI 97 LAZBUDDIE SI 93 POLLYLARKS HAND SI 84 CASEYS CHARM DOCS JACK FROST PC FRENCHMANS HAYDAY SUN FROST PRISSY CLINE TINY CIRCUS SI 97 CASEYS LADYLOVE RIDER: HAILEY KINSEL; OWNER: KINSEL FAMILY; BREEDER: DILLON MUNDORF THE RUNDOWN w/Hailey Kinsel DM Sissy Hayday, “Sister”, 15.1 h. 1,100 lbs. In the News.......In the news......in the news......In the News......In the News..... Three Share $1 million bonus at World’s richest One-Day rodeo Three individuals shared a $1 million bonus at the world’s richest one-day rodeo on Sunday. RFD-TV’s The American presented by Polaris RANGER awarded a total of $2 million to winners in seven rodeo contests at AT&T Stadium. Barrel racer Hailey Kinsel, a college student, and saddle bronc rider Cody DeMoss, a veteran pro, both came through a qualifying system and won championships. Bull rider Sage Kimzey, who received an ex-emption and came straight to The American, won the bull riding title. These three each earned $433,333 - $100,000 for first place in their events and a third of a million-dollar bonus. Kinsel and DeMoss were two of 46 individuals whose road to The American started at qualifying events across the country. Then, they had to finish at the top after four days of The American Semi-Finals in Fort Worth earlier in the week. Five to ten in each event earned the opportunity to compete at AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dal-las Cowboys, against 80 invited contestants who are considered the world’s best. Eight champions were crowned. Bareback riding winner Tim O’Connell, from Zwingle, Iowa, said it best. O’Connell rode Frontier Rodeo’s horse Show Stomper for 90.25 points to win the Shoot Out. The American championship has gone to a bareback rider who has ridden the bay bucking horse the past three years. “It’s hard to put into words how great this rodeo is and what life changing things it can do for you,” he said when he received his $100,000 check. The three that each earned nearly half-a-million agreed that the money would make a huge difference for them. “This changes everything,” Kinsel, from Cotulla, Texas said. “But it doesn’t change the way I feel about my horse. God is good, my horse is awesome and this is amazing.” Kinsel, a senior at Texas A&M, rides a six-year-old palomino mare named DM Sissy Hayday that she and her mother trained. During The American Semi-Finals Kinsel won more than $20,000. Frontier Rodeo’s bucking horse Maple Leaf has taken saddle bronc riders to the winners’ stage for two consecutive years. Last year it was Iowa’s Wade Sundell. This year it was DeMoss. In 16 seconds, over $1.5 million has been won on this featured bucking horse. DeMoss hasn’t decided what he’ll do with nearly half a million in winnings. “I guess I’ll talk it over with her,” he said with a grin, point-ing to his wife Margie. “This is at the top of my rodeo career,” said the 12-time National Finals Rodeo bronc rider. Kimzey, a three-time world champion bull rider in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, finished second in the first round to get to the Shoot Out. The first bull rider was Brazilian Claudio Marcelino de Montanha who qualified at an event in his home country and finished first in the semi-finals. He made easy work of TNT Rodeo Company’s Bottoms Up, scoring 89 points. The next rider was former Professional Bull Riders world champion Guilherme Marchi, who came off early. Then it was Kimzey’s turn. He got on a bull named Uncle Tink, owned by former NFL defensive end Jared Allen, and scored 89.5. The

final rider was bucked off and Kimzey earned the championship. “I love being a cowboy, love everything about it,” Kimzey said. “I love competition, too, and this was a great day. I got to ride against the best guys on the best bulls.” The talent-filled field in bareback riding, team roping, steer wres-tling, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding started with each contestant trying to advance to the Shoot Out Round. The best four go to The Shoot Out and compete once more, with the highest score or fastest time earning $100,000. Both the header and the heeler received $100,000 in team roping. Second place in the Shoot Out was worth $25,000. When The American started four years ago, this format was created to give rodeo athletes an opportunity to compete at one rodeo for big pay checks. Then RFD-TV raised the bar by adding a million-dollar bonus for individuals who come through the qualifying process and win championships. Over the past four years the event has paid more than $10 million to winners at The American and the Semi-Finals.Clayton Hass from Weatherford won the steer wrestling. Brothers Riley and Brady Minor from Ellensburg, Wash., took the team roping title. love buying 2-year-olds. We decided to take a chance on her just because we liked the other mare so much.”

Sister is Sassy The Kinsels turned Sister out for a few months after the sale, and in the spring, Leslie started riding her. “Mom started putting miles on her down at the ranch,” said Kinsel. “We run a lot of cattle down there so we can get a lot of work on her. She was working cattle on her. When I came home for the summer, I got on her and have been on her pretty much ever since.”Kinsel said that the mare’s laid back demeanor actually had them wondering if she had any fire. “She was a typical Dillon horse—head down and very chilled, very broke acting,” she said. “Toward the end of her 3-year-old year, Mom was working some cattle and she goosed her. Sister bucked her off. She bucked terrible hard.” Then it was Kinsel’s turn. “When she was 4, I was taking her around the barrels and she slipped,” she recalled. “When she came back up, she just broke in two. She launched me. I made it six jumps and she launched me. After that we were like ‘OK! She’s got some fire!’ “She’s got an attitude. If I correct her, her first inclination is to pitch or hop up in the front end like she’s threatening to. I have to get after her for it. As far as her barrel racing training, Sister was “fairly simple” and had a natural inclination to turn, but is on the stiffer-side of styles.

First-Time Futurity Horse Sister was Kinsel’s first futurity horse. The pair made their competitive debut at the BFA World Championship Futurity in December 2015. “I wasn’t even trying to run,” recalled Kinsel. “I was hoping to make some decent runs and maybe place in the 2D. We just wanted to have a good experience.” Unfortunately nerves got the best of both of them on the first run, when Sister decided the alleyway looked more inviting than running to the third barrel. They redeemed themselves the next day with a nice run that clocked right at the bottom of the 1D. “I went to one other barrel race after that and since then she’s won a check darn near everywhere we’ve went,” said Kinsel. “I ran her at Diamonds & Dirt. I didn’t go to any summer futurities because I was trying to go to rodeos. I did run her at the WPRA Finals and she was reserve champion in the futurity there. I took her back to the BFA and she placed in the average in the derby. I would have liked to futuritied more, but I had to plan around what I was doing with my other horse.” During the summer, Sister made her pro rodeo debut at Crock-ett, Texas, where she placed. She also placed at her next one in Hugo, Okla. She won her third pro rodeo in Elizabeth, Colo. After the College National Finals Rodeo, where Sister served as a backup to Thunder Stones (“T.J.”), she got turned out for a while.

“I had entered over the Fourth, planning on having two horses,” Kinsel said. “My mom and I prayed about it, and the day before I left for a month and half of rodeos, I decided to leave her at home. She was perfectly sound and happy and obviously great, but I knew she didn’t need the hauling. She was loving it and craving running barrels and I wanted to keep it that. So, she got turned out and worked cattle on. When I got back in August, I got back on her and she’s been absolutely flawless.”

american Made Kinsel had an exhausting week leading up to The American. She had a college rodeo the weekend prior; made her second run at the pro rodeo in San Angelo, Texas, on Monday; ran in slack at The American Semifinals Rodeo on Tuesday, placing 24th to ad-vance to the performance; returned to College Station for classes, went back to Fort Worth for her second run at the Semifinals, a 13.904 that placed third; on Friday, she went back to San Angelo for the finals where TJ finished the job for Sister. In early Sunday morning practice at AT&T Stadium in Arling-ton, Kinsel worked on keeping Sister calm. It was quiet in the morning, but there was still a lot going on,” she said. “The tunnel was pretty intimidating. She worked nice. She was firing that morning. When she gets that way I just try to stay as mellow as possible. I didn’t want to get after her, but I didn’t want her to use herself up either. I was trying to keep a bal-ance.” Kinsel admitted her nerves were getting to her before her first run, but fellow constant Chris Martin, a veteran of $100,000 slot futurity races helped her out. “Chris Martin grabbed my knee and said, “Breathe! You look nervous. You need to breathe. You beat 168 people to get here and you deserve this,” she said. With her frame of mind back in place, she had to work on Sis-ter’s.“She was super nervous when we first walked in there,” she said. “I walked in when (multiple world champion calf roper) Cody Ohl was in the box. That was stupid because the crowd was going nuts. I just had to wait it out until she was OK with it, and it takes her a while. She’s very business-like when she goes to make a run, but I didn’t want her to be fretting the whole time. I went over and walked her behind the roping box; it was quieter over there and I finally got her brain intact.” Running last on the ground following Sherry Cervi and the great horse Dash Ta Diamonds (“Arson”), Kinsel and Sister clocked a 14.448. “I felt a few missteps here and there,” she said. “I did not expect it to be that fast at all. She’s one of those horses that not only does she not look fast, but she doesn’t always feel fast. She felt smooth and I was proud of my run, but I had no idea how fast I was. I didn’t hear my time and couldn’t find a clock anywhere. Riding out of the arena, I was laughing because the crowd was cheering but no one would tell me what I ran. I knew it was good because people

were cheering but I didn’t know it was that good.” One of the first people to congratulate her was Cervi, whom she’d just beaten for the lead. Cervi’s family, the Potters, own Sis-ter’s sire.“I came out of after my first run and Sherry was the first one to hug me. She was crying; I was crying. I’m bawling and say ‘She’s a Dinero,’ and Sherry says, ‘I know!’ That was the first time I got to meet her. It was super special.” The four advancing to the Finals for the $100,000 were Brandon Cullins of Clements, Maryland, who rode Robin Weaver’s aged event start VQ Sucker Punch, Lisa Lockhart, who was aboard Alan Woodbury’s Rosas Cantina CC, whom she’d rode last summer to spell her great gelding An Oakie With Cash (“Louie”), Cervi and Arson, who was responsible for most her 2016 WPRA earnings, and Kinsel and Sissy. Afterwards, Kinsel took Sissy back to the trailer to relax. She made the decision to turn off her phone until the event was over. “I knew I had a whole bunch of text and I didn’t want to watch my run because I knew I would pick it apart,” she said. “I ate a ba-nana, drank some water and played with my dog and waited until we needed to go back down.” Not thinking about the money at stake, Kinsel just wanted to make another smooth run. Although she had some idea what the others had run before her, she stuck with her game plan. “I was in my own little world and just went to go make another smooth run,” she said. “You could say I could safety up but my horse was going to give 100 percent so I had to also. I just tried to make three more good turns. It actually felt faster, but it was a little wilder than my first run.” Running on the bottom of the ground again, Kinsel and Sister turned in a victorious 14.689 to again surpass Cervi and Arson, who had some bobbles in their run. return to Normal

On Monday, Kinsel was back in Bryan, Texas. Although she didn’t have class, she had Bible study that night and had to study for an exam on Tuesday. She also had to tackle interviews and more than 150 text messages. “I don’t really know how to handle all of this. It’s hard to get used to everyone wanting to talk to me, I feel like they should talk to the horse or something,” she quipped. Kinsel followed in her mother’s footsteps attending Texas A&M, where’s she’s majoring in agricultural economics. Her emphasis is on finance and real estate so that might follow in her father Dan’s footsteps in farm and ranch brokerage and marketing.“I thought I could go into real estate under him,” she noted, “and I wasn’t very good at finance, so I thought I needed to get better at it.” Hence, the reason she deferred to dad on what to do with her record-breaking earnings. As far as rodeo goes, her immediate priority is finishing up her college rodeo career and fitting in a few Texas circuit rodeos when she can. “I mainly run my other horse at them,” she explained. “They’re mostly bigger pens and he does really well at them. I’ve had success with him at college rodeos in the past, so I stick with what works. There will be a couple later in the spring that I will run her at in the spring; I think the last two.“After that, it’s just wherever she takes me from here.”

by Tanya randall Their appearance at RFD-Tv’s The American, presented by Polaris Ranger, may not have gone as planned. Yet, Kelsey Lutjen and KN Fabs Gift Of Fame (“J-Lo”) left the experience $56,068 richer thanks to an American Semifinals Rodeo Championship. Making the win even more special was the fact that Lutjen and J-Lo’s entire team were there to watch. “It was really exciting to have them all there, everyone that helped bring this mare along the way. It was pretty exciting for me because my parents were there to watch as well,” said Lutjen, who also wanted to thank her sponsors: BioMane, Silver Lining Herbs, Usher Brand, Oxy-Gen, CSI Saddle Pads, Revita Vet Laser, Flare Nasal Strips, Long-break Pro Performance, RES Boots, Formula 1 Noni, CoolAid Wraps, Hawthorn Products, Horse Hydrator and JW Brooks Custom Hats. Held at the historic Cowtown Coliseum, also known as “North-side,” in Fort Worth, Texas, the Semifinals Rodeo narrowed the 178 field down to 30 in slack on February 14. The top 30 were split into three performances with the Top 10 times advancing to The American at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Lutjen and J-Lo finished third in the slack with a 13.922 and they posted the fastest time of the three performances, a 13.804, to be the lead qualifier to The American. “She’s really been running well in the smaller pens,” said the barrel horse trainer from Casa Grande, Ariz. “I was able to get in there and make a few runs before the Semifinals. She just kept getting stronger. She really likes that pen.” Unfortunately, they never found their groove at Arlington and caught the first barrel in the Qualifying round.

“She just really didn’t love the ground,” said Lutjen. “Neither of us had experienced anything like that before and I thought she handled everything really well. She tried really, really hard for me, but it just

The american Semi-Finals Continued From Page 10wasn’t in the cards.” After a freak turnout injury in the fall of her futurity year, it almost wasn’t in the cards for J-Lo to ever run barrels again. Aggressive diag-nostics and revolutionary therapies helped get her back to winning form by the fall of 2015. “It’s pretty crazy to think back a couple of years ago to when that happened,” said Lutjen. “The chances of her coming back were pretty slim. That she’s come back this far shows the true grit that she has.” Bred by Kenny Nichols and owned by Nichols and Dale Barron, J-Lo is by Nichols’ stallion Frenchmans Fabulous out of the blue hen producer Mistys Dash Of Fame, by Dash Ta Fame. The 8-year-old palomino mare also had her 9-year-old full-sister, KN Fabs Mist Of Fame, running in the Semifinals. Brandon Cullins of Clements, Md., placed on Misty in the slack before switching to VQ Sucker Punch, whom he advanced all the way to the final four.Frenchmans Fabulous also sired Semifinals competitors Get Em Frenchy, ridden by Carina Morris, and Mia Fabulous Fame, ridden by Haley Wolfe. Of the 4 Frenchmans Fabulous horses in the Semi-Fi-nals, Kn Fabs Gift Of Fame, Kn Fabs Mist of Fame, and Mia Fabulous Fame all made the Top 30 in slack and qualified to the Shoot-Out Round of the Semi-Finals. J-Lo actually qualified two competitors to the Semifinals. Lutjen won the Qualifier in Reno, Nevada, while her mother won the Quali-fier in Las Vegas on the mare. Ivy Conrado just missed becoming the third rider to qualify on J-Lo. Lutjen said it’s likely they’ll continue on the same path as previous years, pulling embryos out of the mare, running her rodeos when she has the time and trying for their third qualification to the American Semifinals. “The American is a once in a lifetime experience,” she said. “Yester-day, I was just happy to be able to be there because there are a lot of people that would have given anything to be there. I got lucky. The experience is unbelievable. I hope I get to do it again.

by Tanya randall When Lacey Harmon and Just The Way You Are (“Bruno”) turned the first barrel in the short go of the LG Pro Classic Invitational Slot Race, the whole futurity world may have stopped and stared for a while. Their amazing run daylighted the field of 30 by 6/10ths of a second to win the $100,000 Championship. “It was amazing,” said Harmon of Bluff Dale, Texas. “That run in the slot race was so smooth. I think running down the alley way he just had his game face on.” Bred by Harmon’s mom Kathy Donegan, also of Bluff Dale, Bruno, a 4-year-old gelding is by the late Roosters Fame, a son of all-time lead-ing sire Dash Ta Fame out of Thisdialsadona, an oops baby when the legendary barrel horse Dial A Red Rooster jumped the fence and bred his 5/8ths sister before he was gelded. Bruno’s dam is Streakin Scat Cat, by the Streakin Six son Bop Trot out of Wampitas Scat Cat, a daughter of Tigers Music that was one of Harmon’s top youth rodeo horses. Before Harmon, Wampitas Scat Cat was a tough 8-and-und mount too for Jackie (Dube) Jatzlau, who topped the 60-head Long Go of the Invitational with Fame Has Perks.Streakin Scat Cat was Harmon’s first futurity horse. “I think I ran her at three or four futurities and she just couldn’t stay sound enough to run,” lamented Harmon. “Her hocks were fusing. She’d always try but she’d never really clock. We started breeding her when she was five.” Bruno is her third foal. All three of her foals including Do You Know Who I Am, by Dashin Elvis, and We R Who We Are, Bruno’s full sister, are futurity money earners. “All of her babies have been awesome,” said Harmon. “Each one has

been a little bit better.” Bruno was started under saddle by Harmon’s brother Ben.“Phil Haugen came did a four-day, one-on-one clinic with my brother, and Bruno was the first one that he started,” Harmon explained.

Bruno debuted at the BFA Juvenile, where he finished 25th in the average—the last hole for money. “He placed at both futurities in Arizona and won third in the slot race, so he’d won about $12- or $13,000 before this. He’s always been right there,” said Harmon who wanted to thank her husband Casey for the excellent farrier work on her horses. Incidentally, Casey fin-ished 11th at RFD-TV’s The American Semifinals Rodeo—one hole out of advancing to Arlington—in the steer wrestling. Harmon said she got really nervous before her slot-race run on Bruno because she had a disappointing run on his stablemate, Flashin Flitter, that had won the BFA Super Stakes. “I think I was nervous because I knew that colt could do really good,” she said. “Everyone kept saying that they thought he was better. It was a pressure building situation for me. I was way more nervous than I’d ever been for any other run.” Harmon becomes the first rider to win back-to-back slot races on two different, home-bred horses. “It’s crazy to have a goal and have it skyrocket,” she said. “My mom was joking after I won Oklahoma City. She said, ‘You’re going to make me spend all my money entering slot races, aren’t you?’ I’m like, ‘Yep!’ It’s been a crazy couple of months!”

by Hope Sickler Molli Montgomery has been attending the LG Pro Classic in Kinder, Louisiana for 5 years and has seen her name in the futurity average results several times, however this year she will finally see her name at the top of the futurity average. This was the 11th annual LG (Lance Graves) Pro Classic held at the Coushatta Casino and every top futurity trainer in the industry arrives in Kinder to do a little barrel racing gambling of their own to see how the cards will fall. This year, it was the popular Molli Montgomery who left Kinder as the high roller. Montgomery rode Legsgonewild to the futurity championship with their total time on two runs of 29.235-seconds. Legsgonewild “Leggs” is by Tres Seis and out of Stoli Bugs Me by Stoli and she is owned by Jeff and Leslie Makovy. The 4-year-old petite made mare may be small but she is quickly showing that size has nothing to do with winning. “Leggs is incredibly sweet and laid back. She is a small mare, maybe only 14.1 hands tall, but she is stocky built. She is very easy to be around and is as cool as a cucumber. She can go around the barrels at any speed; trot, slow lope, fast, it doesn’t matter to her, although she does prefer to go fast!” laughed Montgomery. “Nothing bothers her and she has been such a fun mare to train and ride. I am very grateful for the opportunity to ride such a nice mare for the Makovy’s.” Montgomery has been riding for the Makovy’s for 4 years and explains that this year is just the tip of the iceberg as far as what the Makovy’s have for upcoming futurity superstars. “It took us a few years to line out the bloodlines that we wanted to ride and train and now that it is coming together and we are seeing the hard work and homework pay off, it is so rewarding and exciting.”Montgomery and “Leggs” stopped the clock in 14.666-seconds in the first round of the futurity which placed them 9th in a very salty first go.

“Leggs makes a carbon copy run every time I send her down the al-ley. She is so solid already and the biggest thing I always must remem-ber when I run her is to send her hard to the first barrel,” explained Montgomery. Prior to Kinder, Montgomery wanted to prepare her colts as much as she could for the small trap pen that they run in at Kinder. “I took all of my colts to Star Ranch in Cresson and got some runs

in on them in that small arena. I estimated that I probably knocked 23 barrels down but leaving the jackpot, I was excited. I figured that I had gotten my down barrels out of the way and the odds would be in my favor.” And that they were. In the second round of the LG futurity, Mont-gomery won the round aboard Makovy’s other futurity horse Makin Ya Famous and then finished third aboard “Leggs”. Makin Ya Famous ran a 14.468 and Legsgonewild stopped the clock in 14.569-seconds. “This was my first time to win the LG futurity and I was very tick-led. I love the setup at Kinder and I have always placed in the average in the past. It is one of my favorite futurities and I absolutely love the environment.” With such a strong start to her futurity season, Montgomery wants to take it one-run-at-a-time and make sure her top priority is keeping her horses happy, sound and fit. by Hope Sickler NFR Qualifier and one of the industry’s leading barrel horse train-ers, Kassie Mowry entered the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo to get a run in on one of her colt’s in a rodeo like atmosphere. What Mowry didn’t know at the time was that she would be at the top of the roster when the dust had settled at the popular Texas rodeo. “I entered San Angelo because I wanted to run one of my futurity colts for this year, Girls Dig Fame, in a rodeo atmosphere. I knew the competition would be tough and I like to enter a few rodeos throughout the year to give my futurity horses that kind of exposure,” explained the Dublin, Texas trainer. Girls Dig Fame “Digger” is a 4-year-old gelding by Dash Ta Fame and out of A Girl Needs Cash by Merridoc. He is owned by David and Ranee Alexander. In the slack at San Angelo, over 240 of the WPRA’s toughest bar-rel racers met to see who could make the 120 cut to move onto the rodeo’s performances. Mowry not only fell in the top 120 but with a cushion at that, running a 15.95 to place 10th in the incredibly tough first round. “I never really made plans past the first round at San Angelo because I was just hoping to go in there and make a smooth run. Although I knew that Digger could potentially make a great run and clock well, I didn’t really plan ahead to the performances.” Mowry made her second run at San Angelo in the 5th performance February 10th and at that time posted the fastest run of the second round, a blazing 14.20. However, this time around Mowry was on a different mount, Firewatermakemehappy. “I decided to take Junior to the second round because I knew that he would fit that set up well and he could handle the loud coliseum better than a futurity colt might. We had a great run and ended up

placing 5th in the second round and advanced to the short round,” Mowry explained. Firewatermakemehappy is 7-years-old and is by Firewater-OnTheRocks and is out of Junior Country Girl by Deep Note JR. “Junior” as they affectionately call the extremely talented gelding is owned by Martha Smith and was bred by Karma Loftin. Mowry trained and futuritied “Junior” and has seen great success aboard the buckskin powerhouse. When Mowry got the call that she was headed to the short round in San Angelo, she was in Kinder, Louisiana at the LG Pro Classic.“I bought a plane ticket and Martha met me in Abilene with Junior. I almost didn’t make it because the flight that I was on to Abilene had oversold their tickets. I was about to have a meltdown until this very nice gentleman offered me his seat on the plane. I am very grateful for his kind gesture. We ended up getting to the rodeo about 45-minutes into the short round and I had barely enough time to get ready but

Pro rodeos Continued From Page 35we made it count and won the short round.” Mowry and “Ju-nior” won the short round with their time of 14.02 and sealed the win in the aver-age with their total time on three runs of 44.17-seconds. “It took a team to get me to the short round at San Angelo. From my boyfriend, Michael Boone making sure my horses were cared for at Kinder, to Martha who met me with Junior, the guy who gave me his seat and the producers at Kinder who worked with me. I definitely could not have done it and been successful without any of them,” Mowry said. With all her success in the rodeo world lately, between the ERA and the PRCA/WPRA’s one might think Mowry would want to hit the rodeo trail; but when asked if she as going to try and rodeo this year, her answer was no. “I don’t plan to rodeo. I like to take my colts to some rodeos throughout the season and gauge where they are at and test the waters. But other than that, I prefer the futurities and jackpots over the rodeo scene. I am very excited about Digger and the promise that he is already showing as a rodeo horse so young in his career!”

Barrel racing Report Schedule - Send Your Events to [email protected]

Headin’ For Home by Sherry Morrison Triple M (Mike Morrison Ministries)

I want to find out when there’s a barrel race around here. No one advertises in papers anymore. But... you can FACEBOOK. I don’t Facebook. Well, I didn’t use to. But I decided I needed to keep

up with the times, so I am now the proud owner of an account. Don’t have a clue how to do it…but I have one. Here’s the interesting part. To date, I have had 8 people try to help me navigate this new adventure. More interesting... none of them do it the same. Even more interesting... I’m living in fear that I will hurt someone’s feelings or send the wrong thing to the wrong person. I had one friend for a few days. Now there are more. It’s multiplying like sourdough pancake starter!! I really need someone who has a black belt in Facebook. I don’t know if there is such a person, but if I’m going to continue, I’m going to need one! Same way with the Word of God (you knew this was coming didn’t

you?). There are more opinions out there about what God will and won’t do then you can shake a stick at. And most of those opinions are driven by experience and NOT the Word itself. We need someone who has a black belt in the Bible. Praise God, we have such a person! He is the Holy Spirit. When you read the Word for yourself and have questions, just ask for help. The Holy Spirit will give you understand-ing. James 1:5-6. Whew! Oh... I still haven’t found that barrel racing page...
