Signs a PersonMight be Ready for Hospice Care

Hospice provides health and emotional support services to patients at end of life, their families, and their caregivers to reduce stress, alleviate suffering, and maintain dignity.

—Has the patient had frequent hospitalizations or recurrent infections?

—Has there been an increase in pain, nausea, breathing distress, or other symptoms?

—Has there been a decrease in function requiring assistance for walking, eating, bathing, dressing, and/or going to the toilet?

—Has the patient failed to “bounce back” after medical setbacks?

—Is the patient ready to discontinue aggressive treatment and pursue comfort and symptom management moving forward?
