On July 28, 2016, a representative from The Shelter for Abused Women & Children picked up 84 backpacks filled with school supplies donated by Police, Fire and City employees. Chuck Gunter, a long-time member of the Police Department’s Facilities Maintenance team, retired in August. Chuck’s counterpart, Jonathan King, stepped up and modified his work schedule in order to complete his and Chuck’s duties. Jonathan is to be commended for his extra effort and dedication. Rodriguez participated in the Hot Summer Nights Children’s Event sponsored by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at Mackle Park. 7/12 Code Enforcement Magistrate Meeting was held in the MIPD Community Room. 7/14 Chief Schettino met with James Williamson, new Director of Security, at the Marriott Resort. 7/26 Chief Schettino attended a Traffic Analysis meeting at Tommie Barfield School. 7/27 Chief Schettino and several members of the Department attended a cookout at Mackle Park to celebrate the conclusion of Camp Mackle’s Summer Camp.

On August 8, 2016, the Marco Island Police Department received bomb/firearm threats via five telephone calls regarding the Marriott Beach Resort. The shoplifter, Erika Benson, was arrested for Petit Theft and was transported to the Naples Jail Center. DATE & TIME: 07/17/2016 INCIDENT: Possession of Marijuana An Officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was speeding. The driver, Robert Levi, was arrested for Possession of Marijuana and was transported to the Naples Jail Center. DATE & TIME: 07/18/2016 INCIDENT: Driving while License Suspended An Officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was speeding. The driver, Joseph Negro, was arrested for Driving on a Suspended License and was transported to the Naples Jail Center. DATE & TIME: 07/22/2016 INCIDENT: Grand Theft Officers were dispatched to a residence located in the Riverside Club in reference to a boat and trailer that were stolen from the property. DATE & TIME: 08/02/2016 INCIDENT: Warrant Arrest & Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance Officers were dispatched to Little Caesar’s Pizza in reference to a suspicious male subject yelling at people. The male subject, Aaron Jones, was arrested for a Palm Beach County Warrant, Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and was transported to the Naples Jail Center. Beach Patrol In July, there were 97 unique events that included 37 Police or Community Service Officer initiated patrols on the beach or water immediately adjacent to the beach, 51 community-oriented policing events and 1 parking complaint. Dedicated beach activities accounted for just over 59 staff hours during the month. Community Service Officers / Code Enforcement

The Department’s one full-time and eleven part-time CSO’s conducted community patrols of the beach, parks and schools, as well as commercial and residential areas. They assisted Law Enforcement personnel, conducted fingerprinting on Tuesdays and Thursdays, oversaw the issuance of RV parking permits, and conducted sea turtle / light inspections & beach law education. In July, Community Service and Law Enforcement personnel attended to 386 CAD (Dispatched) events classified as “Code Complaints” at 310 unique addresses. CAD events at repeat addresses included follow-up investigations. For comparative purposes: in the last six months of 2015, code violation calls averaged approximately 220 events per month and represented numerically, the single largest category of dispatched versus solely self-initiated calls.

Landscape Buffer Violations: CSO’s collaborating with Growth Management, have determined that 1842 & 1850 San Marco Road and 625 N. Collier Blvd. are grandfathered with respect to compliance with landscaping buffers. These properties were built between 1976 & 1997.

Training • Sergeant James Inlow and Officer Clayton Smith attended a Chemical Weapons Instructor

course in North Port, Florida, sponsored by the North Port Police Department and Aerko International. The course will enable these two Officers to re-certify and train other Officers in the use of chemical agents.

• MIPD Officers attended an instructional class on the use of tourniquets, and were issued the equipment for deployment in the field.

• MIPD Officers continued monthly Police Law Institute training sessions as well as roll-call training on various topics.
