When you’re headed to locations in Europe or

Africa, you might have a long layover in London. In

some instances, extended layovers are inevitable,

but some tourists see this as a good opportunity to

go around the city.

Things to keep in mind check the length of time

you have before your next trip When you want to hop off the airport and go to the

city during a layover, remember to factor in reasonable amount of time to go

through passport control and customs. This can take approximately one hour, but

can take a lot longer during peak travel seasons. I have a lot of bags with me. Can I

leave them at the airport? The majority of airports in London operate left baggage

facilities.

Depending on which airport you will be leaving your baggage, it can cost £5 to

£8.50 per item if you plan to leave your luggage for twenty-four hours.

Where to go:

St. Paul’s Cathedral This 17th century cathedral overlooks the UK's capital.

Tourists will certainly marvel at

its English Baroque design and

wonderful mosaics. Tourists will

be required to pay £12.50 to

14.50, but those participating in a

service at the cathedral can enter

free of charge.

Westminster Abbey Coronations and burials for English, British and

Commonwealth royalties are done in this predominantly Gothic church. Also close

to Westminster Abbey is Big Ben, which is among the most prominent symbols of

both London City and the rest of Great Britain.

Buckingham Palace No vacation to London is complete without seeing the

palace. One of the reasons tourists flock here is to see the Changing of the Guards,

which one can enjoy totally free. The Changing of the Guard takes place every day

in the summer months at 11.30 AM, then on alternate days for the rest of the year.

The Tower of London The tower has been used as a prison, mint, arsenal,

menagerie, and for the most part a royal house and fortress. Nowadays, the tower

contains the impressive Crown Jewels.

London eye See London from the top. At 135 meters, it is the tallest Ferris wheel

in The European continent, and one of the tallest worldwide. It is also the most

visited paid tourist attraction in England. Queues can be lengthy especially during

peak travel seasons though. If you want to make the most of your time and avoid

long queues, buy priority boarding tickets on the web. While you’re at the facility,

consider trying their 40-minute cruise on the River Thames as well.

While London has quick and convenient public transport system, consider getting a

private tour in a cab or private hire car which could pick you up you from the

airport and take you to the above mentioned points of interest. Day tours on board

taxis allow you to visit tourist spots easily without hurrying from point to point.
