SometipsforlongexposurePhotography:This is where practice makes perfect. Youwill never get a perfect shot first, or evensecond or third time, its a course of trialanderror.1. Wherever possible, shoot at the lowestISOpossible. This typicallymeansyouhavethe clearest image as possible with thelittlest noise, especially important for highqualityimages.

    2. Use manual focus and set the focus toinfinity on your lens. In dark conditionsespecially, theautofocuswillgenerally tendto struggle to find a focus point and willhunt, meaning the autofocus will keepzooming inandouttotryandfindasubjecttofocuson,butwillfinditdifficultto.3. Use a high aperture. This brings themaximum amount of area into focus andcompliments the previous point; obviouslyas you are manually focusing you want ahigh area as possible to be clear in theresultingimage.4.ShootinRAWformat.Thishelpsmainlyinpost processing with things like whitebalanceandmakingsmallcorrections.5.Turnoffyourimagestabilizer.BelieveitornotyourISmayworkagainstyouhere,as itwill try auto correct any small movement, which is obviously not what you want. Itsconfusing as the ISmay also blur a part ofthe photo youwant to be sharp if there iseven the tiniest infraction, sobasicallyyourcamerasISistolongexposurewhatwateristoaGremlin.6. Shoot in bulb mode. This lets youdetermine the shutter speed simply byholding down the shutter button forhowever longyouwanttheexposuretobe. This is perfect for shooting things likefireworks, whereby you dont know howlong a particular onewill be in the air for, butyoustillwanttoexperimentwith

ShootingwithfilmsThewayIseeitByFahimFaisalKhanShapnilIknow itmightsoundodd tomanypeople, but I'm still shooting with films even in2013.Ithasbeenmorethan1.5yearsformein the field of photography. Having thepassion for photography deep inside myheart, I started with an old Yashica MG1Rangefindercamerafoundinsidemyfather'scloset. That time I didn't have any othercamera, noteventhemoneytoaffordone.Inever told my parents to buy me a DSLRcamera, still don't. Day by day, I foundlearning photography with a Film cameramore interesting. Eventually I bought twootherFSLRcamerasVivitarV3200witha2870mmlens;andaYashicaFX3superwitha50mmlensfrommysavedpocketmoney.ThewayIseeit,thesecamerashavehelpedmetolearnabouttakingphotographswithinlimitations.Also Igotachancetowidenmycreativity in this aspect. Which I think, ismaking my basic strong day by day. Thenagain, there are some great things in filmcameras which even many DSLR camerascan'tprovide.Bumpingupthe ISOveryhighis just not a problem here. I always enjoyshooting at night because of this. There isstillCCDsensorwhichcancompetewithfilmindynamicrange.Theadvantagein

exposure latitude in a fun part too. Butaboveall, thereisnotmorefunandjoyinanything than taking full control of yourphotographsbymanuallycontrollingyourcamera.WhichyouarecompelledtodoinaFSLRcamera.But then again, there are somedisadvantages too. Limited exposurenumber is the firstone I'd say.Youhavetothinktwicebeforetakingashot.Manytimes I've missed interesting shots justbecause my film ran out. But as a sideeffect of that, itmakes youmore caringand alert about your photographs, andhelps to build the 'one exposure permotive'mentality. Also, developing films isagreatproblemnowadays. You'll have towait to checkyour captures, though you can neverensureeveryperfectshot.Asfornow, whenIstillhavealottolearnaboutphotography,I'mgratefultomy

FSLRcameras. Ibelieve, Icould fitmyself infilmmediumeveninthisdigitalerabecause,Iwasneverconcernedaboutwhatgear I'musing, neverhadintentionstobrataboutmygears.I never felt hesitated before taking a shotjust because I have a Film camera in myhand.I've always found great support from thephoto communities, speciallyGrasshoppers.Igottolearnalotfromhere.Ilearnedaboutphotography, many technical details aboutit.Mostof all l, the caringbehavior amongcommunity members. Also, both of myselected photographs forGH exhibition arecapturedbyafilmcamera.I never felt sorry for not owning a DSLRcamera; at the same time I never put theblameofanotsogoodshotonmyFSLR.

I never felt sorry for not owning a DSLRcamera; at the same time I never put theblameofanotsogoodshotonmyFSLR.I'mtryingto improvewithin limits, sothat Icandevelop my skills more by making myfoundationstrong.Ibelieveitsmycreativityand skillwhichmakes a shot good, not thegear.Icouldn'thavethisopinionIfIhaditinmy mind 'only good and costly SLRs takegoodphotos.'So, anybody out there being upset for nothaving an expensive DSLR camera please,it's not the end of the world. Shoot andpractice with what you have now. Even ahighpriced35mmSLRwillproducenothingif there's a blind eye and a dumb brainbehindtheeyepiece.Thegearswon'treallymake a difference unless you want todevelop your skill. And only patience, practice and the goodwill of sharingknowledgecanhelpyoudoso.Aswephotographerswanttheworldtoseethingsthroughoureyesandbelievetheminour point of view, I saywemake our eyesbetterfirst.Goodluck.
