Production and Audition information for SHREK The Musical (TYA 2 act version) will run 3 weekends, Sept 8-9, 14-16 & 21-23 at the Peace Center Gunter Theatre. Director: Betsy Bisson Music Director: Manny Houston Choreographer: Lauren Imhoff For this production we are looking for 4 th grade to adults for all roles. ALL ROLES SING AND DANCE Anticipated cast size = 25-30 THE ROLE OF DONKEY HAS BEEN CAST & WILL BE PLAYED BY MANNY HOUSTON Shrek A big, green, terrifying ogre who lives alone on a swamp. He embarks on a journey to rid his land of fairytale creatures and, along the way, falls in love with Fiona. Begins as a grumpy hermit, but reveals his layers and eventually becomes the hero. Princess Fiona The beautiful princess of Far Far Away, she transforms into an ogre every night when the sun sets. Rescued by Shrek and eventually falls in love with him. Quirky, blunt, and multitalented, she is not an ordinary princess. (There are also young and teen versions of her.) Lord Farquaad The comically short, ruthless ruler of Duloc. He is in search of a princes to marry so that he can become king. Has an intensely unfair bias against fairytale creatures that stems from a resentment of his father. Self-absorbed, lonely, and cruel. Dragon A dragon that has been charged with guarding Princess Fiona in her isolated castle. She eventually falls in love with Donkey and attempts to keep him there forever. Imposing and flirtatious, but tired of her job as the glorified baby-sitter. Gingy A gingerbread man (or woman) initially kidnapped by Lord Farquaad. His wit and resolution help him both avoid trouble and inspire the rest of the fairytale creatures. Pinocchio The leader of the fairytale creatures. He (or she) is an animated puppet whose nose grows every time he lies. Plenty of sass with a penchant for lying. Ensemble Young Fiona & Teen Fiona. Fairytale Creatures (Big Bad Wolf, Three Little Pigs, White Rabbit, Fairy Godmother, Peter Pan, Wicked Witch, Ugly Duckling, Three Bears, Mad Hatter, Humpty Dumpty, Elf, Dwarf, Three Blind Mice); Angry Mob; Happy People; Guards; Knights; Rats. LOCATION: SCCT Temporary Headquarters, 1200 Pendleton St, Greenville, SC 29611 PREPARATION: All auditionees should prepare 16 bars of a memorized song to sing with accompaniment that shows off acting choices rather than ballads—this musical is upbeat, energetic. YOU MUST BRING SHEET MUSIC IN THE CORRECT KEY for the accompanist—no one may sing a capella. Bring your schedule to fill-in all of your potential rehearsal conflicts on the back of the audition form— conflicts may not be added after casting. EVERYONE NEEDS TO BRING A NON- RETURNABLE PHOTO. ANTICIPATED REHEARSAL SCHEDULE Rehearsals will occur – though not every day , Mon- Thur evenings, late June (skip early to mid July) and then late-July through August (typically in the 6:30- 9pm range).  IMPORTANT NOTICE – DATES & TIMES ‐ Please read carefully 

 Welcome to auditions for Shrek The Musical We ask that everyone read this information carefully as it contains important dates and information that is essential for you to know before making a commitment to this production. 

  CALL BACKS‐ will be SUNDAY, MAY 20 in the evening if needed. Material will be provided. Those needed for 

call backs will be notified during their audition. If you are not invited to call backs, it does NOT mean you did not get cast. 

EVERYONE WHO AUDITIONS NEEDS TO CHECK THE CAST LIST!!  If you didn’t get called back, do not assume you did not get cast.  

THE CAST LIST for Shrek The Musical will be posted on the auditions page of our website https://scchildrenstheatre.org/auditions/ on WEDNESDAY, MAY 22 AFTER 12PM.  

ORIENTATION will be held on TUESDAY, JUNE 5. All cast members and parents of children under 18 are asked to attend. You will have the opportunity to order show memorabilia that night. All roles will receive script that will require a $5 paper & print fee.  Please come prepared to pay for script deposit TUESDAY, JUNE 5– checks are preferred. Scripts will be yours to keep and payment can be made with memorabilia orders.  

SAFE STAGE POLICY: SCCT has adopted a policy in which all cast members and volunteers over 18 years of age must undergo a voluntary criminal background check and be screened through the National Sex Offender Registry to ensure that all SCCT participants are safe while involved in our programs.  If cast, the details of this will be explained at orientation and identification and authorization will be needed 

Rehearsals will occur June 18‐28 & July 16‐Aug 30 – though not every day—Mon.‐Thurs. evenings (typically in the 6:30‐9:30pm range) PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU CAN COMMIT TO THIS SCHEDULE! NO ONE CAN MISS REHEARSAL DURING TECH/DRESS WEEK (SEPT. 2‐7) OR PERFORMANCES. Rehearsal dates and times are subject to change at the discretion of the Directors.  

Parent Volunteers play a vital role in every SCCT production and volunteering also makes sharing the experience with your children all the more special. Parents are asked to commit a portion of volunteer service on building/painting, costuming, marketing assistance with poster distribution, load‐in/out, dressing room attendants, and/or backdoor. Thank you in advance for your commitment to the success of your child & SCCT’s production of Shrek The Musical 

 DIRECTOR’S NOTE:  South Carolina Children’s Theatre is unique in its mission to provide opportunities for experience in theatre arts to as many children as possible. Parents often times play a huge part in this success by helping the child understand that size, age, appearance and gender can play a crucial part in casting – it’s not always just talent that we have to consider.  If your name does not appear on the cast list, there will be numerous other productions for which your child will be eligible, and we urge you to come back for another audition in the future. Thank you!
