Shooting schedule
Tuesday 5th November - Gym
Location: Gym People: Michael
Props: Gym equipment, camera, tripod
Obstacles we came across: • Trying to film in the correct angle • Making sure the shots were as clear as possible • Keeping Michael motivated and on task
What we learnt: Throughout trying to film a video it is important to keep the artist happy just as much as it is to try and create the scenes you want. Because if the artist isn’t happy then it means the shots regardless of how effectively they are filmed, would not fit into the correct energy that the video is portraying thus leading them to look slightly un professional.
On tuesday we decided to do our first day of filming, we thought that we should do the location scene because we had all the props that we needed to use for it. We took with us the dolly, tripod, and two camera for assorted angles. We also made sure to ask our artist Michael to bring appropriate clothing, for example gym clothes, to make it look realistic. The shoot went well and we managed to get all the footage that we needed.
Tuesday 7 th November - Studio
Location: Recording Studio
People Involved: Michael
Props: Recording machine, laptop, two cameras , tripod
During this day some of our members of our group were unavailable therefore Yasmin and Dana tried to make use of time, by filming some of the scenes that wouldn’t require as much of the team. We asked our Actor Michael to dress quite smart casual to represent the change he is trying to achieve, and we used the recording studio in our school to film the scene. Throughout this shoot we focused on close up shots of our artist attempting to create his own music by writing songs ect. Unfortunately a barrier that came in our way was that he wasn’t as familiar with the lyrics as we had hoped therefore this meant that the amount we were able to film was limited, as we couldn’t have him singing to the song. Therefore throughout this shooting period we attempted to focus on camera accuracy instead, to have some shots, which we could add into the video to keep the pace steady and make it look consistent.
Friday 8 th November – Worlds end
Location Words End People- Michael & Whole media group Props- 2 camera, tripod, dolly
During this day we went to one of our locations to film a big part of the our music video, the part showing the 'past' of the artists life, we decided on using worlds end estate because we thought it would be a realstic portyal of a majority of teenagers lives in london. During this we had to use all of our props so the dolly, tripod, 2 cameras, and extra battery and memory, we made sure to always have a range of angles, and it was interesting because this was the first time we got to film with our Artist miming, at first it was a bit of a challenging, since he had to remeber the beat and lyrics. However we brought along the song aswell as a printed lyric sheet so that he could always refer to it.
Obstacles we’ve come across: Making sure everyone’s focused in the team Making sure Michael sang the song correctly Making sure the lighting was appropriate
What we have learned for next time The lyrics are so important for the development of the video, in order for it to be successful we have to make sure our artist
Monday 11th November- Boats and Imperial Wharf
Location: imperial wharfProps: Tripod, Dolly, Camera, People: Michael, whole of group
Whilst choosing this location we needed to consider an area which contrasted from the brick estate, therefore we thought that the crisp white around the docks in Chelsea harbour would of been the perfect opportunity, however a problem that we faced was the security came over to us and requested we stop filming since we needed a permit. Unfortunately this was very annoying for my team since it restricted us of filming and we had to quickly try and relocate to a similar location. Therefore we decided to go to imperial wharf overground station, however again we were asked to stop filming. This made it very unsuccessful for us since it meant that we had to stop filming for the day and evaluate other locations that we could use.
What we learnt: Always make sure we have authorisation to film in the location so we did not waste our time and become as productive as possible. And make sure we have extra time, so we are not rushing the filming which leads to the footage looking rushed.
Tuesday 12th November- Kings Road
Location: Kings Road Props: Tripod, Cameras People: Michael, Whole group
Through some research I discovered that there was an area in Kings road which would be suitable to film in without requiring a permit therefore I took my team to the location so we can continue filming, it was very time consuming because we wanted it to be perfect, therefore this resulted in some of us getting very stressed out since understandably some of us where less motivated then others due to the progressive filming in cold weather however we learned to preserve and work together as a team to get it completed.
Problems which occurred: It began raining and therefore it made filming difficult to maintain leading to some of the filming being unclear at times, therefore we learnt as a group that it is vital to check the weather because it could seriously effect the time it takes to film the projects as well as create frustrations between the group.
Wednesday 13 th November – Rooftop
Location: School Roof Top Props: Tripod, Camera, Dolly People: Michael, Chelsea, Whole Group Throughout the roof top period of filming, we had to make sure to film our other artist chelsea who sings the chorus, as well as the final bits from Michaels scenes, this filming process took alot of time as it was it is the most important chunk of filming that we had to get done, By this time Michael had already known the lyrics to the whole song therefore this made the filming alot easier and it ran smoothly. When we filmed Chelsea during the chorus it took alot longer because we didnt have a fixed concept on how we wanted the shot to be taken, therefore we had to experiment with different styles such as tracking shot, close ups, mid shots. But eventually we got the shots done.
What we learnt: Always make sure to storyboard everything so that we dont waste time planning ideas on the day of the shoot which isnt the most effective approach
