Department Of Technology

Applications are invited for the admissions to M.Tech. Courses in the

Department of Technology, Shivaji University Kolhapur. As regards details

about the Eligibility, Enrollment and Entrance Examinations, Online application

forms, admission rounds, etc. students may please visit the University web site

“www.unishivaji.ac.in”.

Today large number of highly qualified technocrats and scientist are required to meet

the growing demand of corporate sector and industry in the country as a result of open

economy and globalization. India is rapidly becoming a superpower, particularly in

Information Technology and related fields considering these aspects, Shivaji University

has taken a timely step to establish ‘The Department of Technology’, under

the faculty of Engineering and Technology, as a separate Department in the

University, campus at Vidyanagar. Under this Department M. Tech. courses are run

from August 2006 and B. Tech. from August 2008. The department is educating the

students in only a few specific branches of technology, particularly, those which are

important for the national development and cater to regional needs.

Large number of students is required to meet the demands of the industry. India is

becoming a superpower in information technology, considering all these aspects Shivaji

University has taken this appropriate step and started M. Tech. Courses in the following

Admissions will be made for these courses as per guidelines of Shivaji University,

Govt. of Maharashtra and Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) for First year

Engineering/Technology P.G. Admission (Subject to changes as applicable from time

to time).

Eligibility for M.Tech Admission :

4.1 For Sponsored Category :

Candidate should be an Indian national and who possess Bachelors degree or

equivalent in the relevant field of Engineering/Technology, specified by the concerned

University for admission to a particular Post graduate course from an AICTE

approved institutions/Universities established under UGC act, with at least 50% marks

or equivalent CGPA (at least 45% marks in case of candidates of Backward class

categories belonging to Maharashtra State and Physically Challenged (PC) only)

And

The candidates must have minimum of 2 years of full time work experience in a

registered firm/company/industry/educational and/ or research institute/ any

Government Department of Government Autonomous Organization in the relevant

field in which admission is being sought.

Note:

Only those candidates who at the time of admission are employed in a

registered firm/company/industry/educational/ and/ or research institute/ any

Government Department of Government Autonomous Organization/Self

Employed in the relevant field will be eligible for claiming seats against

sponsored category.

A letter from the employer must be furnished stating that the candidate is being

sponsored to seek admission to the post graduate degree program. The

employer should also indicate that the candidate will not be withdrawn midway

till the completion of the course. The candidate will be fully under the

administrative control of the Shivaji University for the entire period of the

course.

No reservation is provided in the sponsored category.

4.2 GATE qualified Non-Sponsored Category :

Candidate should be an Indian National and who possess Bachelors degree or

equivalent in the relevant field of Engineering/Technology, specified by the

concerned University for admission to a particular Post graduate course from an

AICTE approved institutions /Universities established under UGC act, with at least

50% marks or equivalent CGPA (at least 45% marks in case of candidates of

Backward class categories belonging to Maharashtra State and Physically Challenged

(PC) only)

And

Candidate should have a valid GATE score in relevant branch of Engineering

/Technology

5. Educational Qualification eligibility for admission to all the M.Tech

courses branch wise.

5.1. Computer Science and Technology:

Eligibility - B.E. / B. Tech in CSE / CT / CE / CS / IT / Electronics /

ETC / Instruments / Electrical / or M.Sc.ComputerSci /

IT,with valid GATE Score in CSE / IT or AMIE /

IETE with valid GATE score in CSE / IT or AMIE / IETE

with valid Gate score in CSE / IT .

5.2. Electronics Technology -

Eligibility - B.E. / B. Tech in E & TC /Electronics/Industrial/Electronics,

B.Tech in Electronics or M.Sc. in Electronics IETE, with

Valid GATE Score

5.3. Environmental Science and Technology -

Eligibility - B.E. / B.Tech in Civil,/ Environment/Civil construction

Civil water management /Civil rural management/Chemical

or M.Sc in Environmental Science with valid Gate score.

5.4. Energy Technology -

Eligibility - B.E. / B.Tech in (Mechanical / Automobile / Production /

Chemical / Electrical / Civil /Environmental) AMIE / IETE,

M.Sc (Physics) with valid Gate score

Candidates appeared at B.E./B.Tech. (Final Semester) Examination may

also apply.

6. GATE qualified candidate

Applicants must qualify in the GATE paper appropriate to the discipline of

their qualifying degree if a GATE paper is available in such a discipline

Candidates should have Valid GATE score. In case of a tie in the GATE score,

the aggregate marks of the qualifying examination considering all years of

study will be the criterion for preference.

Note :-Valid GATE Score means it must satisfy two conditions: One is valid time

period and qualifying marks. Both of these conditions should be satisfied to apply

for admission to M.E./M.Tech. The Qualifying Score is the minimum mark that

needs to be secured to become eligible for availing assistantships provided by

AICTE/MHRD/GOI from time to time.

7. Candidates those who have not appeared for GATE

Department of Technology will be conducting the entrance test for M.Tech.

Admissions. The syllabus for the M.Tech. Courses entrance test will be similar

to GATE examination conducted by IIT’s Please refer the prescribed

syllabus pdf. for entrance exam by Shivaji University. Merit will be

displayed according to the score in the entrance test.

First preference will be given to the GATE qualified students provided that the

candidate should be in the admission process since beginning. Last moment

entry for GATE qualified will not be considered

8. Registration Fees:

Separate application is needed for each Course Registration fees is Rs.1000/- for Open

Category (Rs.500/- for SC/ST/VJNT/OBC) candidates for each course.

9. Application Procedure: The aspiring candidates need to apply online, from the Institute’s website

(www.unishivaji.ac.in) http://online.shivajiuniversity.in and submit along with D.D.

of Rs. 1000/- only (SC/ST/VJNT/OBC Rs: 500/- only), drawn in favour of "Finance

and Accounts officer, Shivaji University” payable at Kolhapur

12. REFUND OF FEES: -

a) In case of cancellation of admission by student, before starting the course (23rd

July 2011), Rs 1000/- will be deducted from the total fees paid.

b) In case of student leaving the course in between, proportionate fees will be

deducted as per university rules.

13. HOW TO APPLY: -

Aspiring Candidates are required to fill up the online application form available

at http://online.shivajiuniversity.in and other relevant information may please be

downloaded from the website http://www.unishivaji.ac.in . The print of the duly filled

online application form, along with necessary documents mentioned below and a DD

towards registration fees drawn in favour of “Finance and Accounts officer, Shivaji

university " payable at Kolhapur, to be sent to the Registrar, Shivaji University,

Vidyanagar, Kolhapur- 416004 , to reach on or before 18-06-2012 till 6.00 pm.

14. ADMISSION PROCEDURE :

The written test and the interview/viva-voce will be conducted by Shivaji University.

Candidate will be admitted on the basis of total performance i.e. Written

Test+Interview conducted by Shivaji University

Candidate need to appear for both written test and interview and secure minimum 40

marks out of hundred in total performances calculated as follows:

(i) Written Test Maximum 70 marks

(ii) Interview Maximum 30 marks

Total Performance: 100 Marks

If Total Performance of the candidates are comparable, then the preference will be

given for admission to the candidates on the basis of total marks in qualifying

degree examination (i.e.B.E./B.Tech.)

Sponsored Candidate :

Admission to Sponsored candidates shall be given in following order :

1. Round 1-A :

Candidates will be admitted on the basis of Valid GATE score.

The seats remaining vacant at the end of Round 1-A shall be filled in Round 1-B

2. Round 1-B merit prepared based on written test conducted by Shivaji University.

If the total performance of the candidates are comparable, then the preference shall

be given for admission to the candidates on the basis of total marks in qualifying

degree examination (i.e. B.E./B.Tech.)

GATE qualified Non-Sponsored Candidates :

1. Admissions will be effected according to Merit-List prepared on the basis of

valid GATE score in the respective branch only. GATE score of one branch

will not be valid for admission to another branch.

2. There shall be only one round (ie. Round-2) of admission for GATE qualified

Non-Sponsored Candidates to PG programs in Engg./Technology.

3. When enough GATE qualified candidates in the respective branch are not

available, the vacant seats will be offered to the non-GATE Non –

Sponsored candidates, as per merit, on the basis of the entrance test

conducted by Shivaji University.

4. Reservation is provided as per university rule and DTE guidelines issued

time to time in Non-GATE and Non-Sponsored category

15. GENERAL GUIDELINES:

Admissions will be made on ALL INDIA BASIS for all M.Tech courses.

A candidate for M.Tech course admission should be a citizen of India

Admission to foreign nationals, if any, shall be governed by the rules

stipulated by the Government of India from time to time.

Online application forms duly filled in and accompanied by the following

documents.

A demand draft towards Registration Fees (Rs. 500/- for SC/ST/VJNT/ OBC

candidates and Rs. 1000/- for all others) should be drawn in favour of

“Finance and Accounts officer, Shivaji university “payable at Kolhapur .

Candidate’s name and address should be entered on the reverse of the draft.

SC/ST candidates, who avail themselves of the concessional registration fees,

should enclose integrated community certificate, failing which the application

will be rejected.

Photocopies of Marks Memoranda / Grade Sheets of all the examinations

leading to the qualifying degree.

Photocopy of the GATE score card.

Photocopy of Community Certificate, if the admission is sought against the

reserved seat (VJNT /SC/ST/OBC).

Photocopy of the Degree / Provisional Pass Certificate of the qualifying

examination. In case, final result is awaited, Provisional Pass Certificate

should be submitted at the time of counseling or before the specified date

given by the Institute.

Send two extra identity size photos along with application.

Candidates awaiting the results of the final semester may also apply. But, they

should submit the final marks list before the date given by the Institute in case

they are selected.

Applications without these documents shall be deemed to be incomplete and

shall be rejected.

Separate applications are to be submitted for admission into different M.Tech.

courses.

Applications submitted in any proforma other than the prescribed proforma

kept in the Institute website or those received after the due date or those which

are incomplete in any respect will not be considered.

16. ACCOMMODATION:

Hostel facility is available in the premises Department of Technology, Shivaji
