SHU Racing

•I heard about SHU Racing in the first year but did not get involved until my final year

•I regret this because of the skills and people you meet on SHU Racing. For example everyone is keen about motor sport and racing and working on a car which will actually compete against rival university's at Silverstone is better than any other assignment

•Dr. Rihana Ishaq approached me during my placement year and got me interested in the cost role and general SHU racing

•Then adapted the cost control role into my final year project

•Cost control has allowed me to work with all of the different areas of the car instead of focusing on just one area

Qualities and skills developed and learnt

•Communication – Although communication is used in every day environment, the communication within SHU racing results in jobs on the car being complete

•Team Work – Working in a team is also a skill which is used in every day life however SHU racing pulls different students together from different backgrounds and courses because of one passion…Racing!

•Practical Learning – When working on the race car there is an end result, students touch, feel and breathe the race car and understanding of how a car operates is learnt and different methods of improving the performance is gained

•Cost – Cost control is important within all different areas of business. Budgeting, purchasing and negotiation are all important factors which meet cost control, these qualities are areas which I can use in industry
