I say “good home cooking” because some months we will eat breakfast first at 10:00 and then have a quilt demo and some months we will have the quilt demo first and then eat early lunch! This is not a preplanned program as in the past, which is why it is called potluck-for both the menu AND the pattern project. One thing we can be sure of is that it will be fun and the food will be good. January – scarf made of oh-so-soft cuddle cloth February – heart pillow embellished with various trims and decorative stitches March – Easter egg placemat with stitched embellishments HEARTS AND MORE VALENTINE RUNNER Thursday, January 11 10:00-3:00pm Cost: $25 + materials Teacher: Donna Eicher This is a project that will utilize the Hearts and More rulers from Sue Pelland. Come and see just how EASY it is to make hearts AND heart outlines with Sue’s rulers. You will impress yourself, I guarantee it, and be the envy of your friends when they see this runner! BORDER CLASS Easy Braid and Checkerboard Thursday, Jan. 11, 5:30-8 pm Cost: $15 Teacher: Anette DeNardo Come and explore some more options for adding pizazz to your quilt borders. No more boring borders once you learn these easy techniques. Class can be observed or hands on-it’s up to you! BORDER CREEK STATION MYSTERY QUILT CONTINUES January 13, 10:00 am February 10, 10:00 am March 10, 10:00 am NEW SATURDAY SAMPLER Second Saturday of each month at 12:00 noon Cost: $5 block Teacher: Donna Eicher A Saturday Sampler is a series of 12 different blocks made monthly to be combined into a finished quilt top at the end of the program. You will need to pay $5 for the first block and attend class to pick up your block and watch the demonstration of how to complete it. Take it home and sew your block to bring back to the NEXT month’s class and you will get block two for FREE! If you do not have your block finished, you can purchase the next month’s block for $5. We will kit the blocks in two different color ways so that you can choose the one you prefer. Fabric requirements for the sashing and borders will be provided so that you can purchase what is needed to complete it-or shop in your stash! We will need to know how many kits to have prepared for the first session, so please sign up as soon as possible. The cost of the CD is normally $199, but we are offering the collection to you at $150 AND will include all of the classes from January through June as we explore six of the 10 techniques featured. I understand that perhaps not everyone will be able to make all six classes (although we hope you can and we have each class scheduled at 2 different times/days) but even if you only make a couple, you will still get your money’s worth as the CD

is significantly discounted. We want you to learn how to use your embroidery in many different ways. The techniques and projects for the next six months are listed below. If, by chance, you already own this CD collection, please let us know and we will work out another pricing arrangement for you.

CAKE MIX CLASS Thursday, January 18, 10:00am-2:00pmCost: $20 + materialsTeacher: Ruth BergenJust so you know-this is a sewing class and not a cooking class! We will be using the new Moda cake mixes to show you just how easy it is to create quilt blocks in paper piecing fashion from layer cakes, or from fabric squares cut into 10” squares. Ruth demonstrated these at Schoolhouse last September and they have been quite popular. If you are lacking confidence with knowing how to begin, come and join us. The goal is to have 3 blocks made by day’s end.

BASIC SEWING TECHNIQUESThursday, January 185:30-7:30pmCost: $Teacher: Deb AugustineThis class is NOT for someone who has never used a sewing machine. You must understand how to thread the machine, wind a bobbin, and understand the basics of your machine. This is, however, for someone who wants to go the next step and learn how to make some basic seams, hems, buttonholes, and various other techniques. The price includes a nicely packaged kit of instructions, reference material and the fabrics required to complete samples of the various techniques, which can then be fastened on the appropriate instructional pages for future reference. All you will need to bring is your machine and some thread in any color.

We have excellent fabric choices for this beautiful kimono-like coverup: Embrace Double Gauze, batiks, Fairy Frost as well as lightweight cotton fabric. We will use FABRIC, scraps of fabric, to make the cutest little macramé owl ever! No sewing involved. All of our “Outside the Sewing Box” classes use fabric but no sewing. Come and join us if you love crafting or fabric!

BASIC SERGER TECHNIQUESSaturday, March 24, 10am-1pm Cost: $40 (all materials included)Teacher: Deb AugustineEach student will receive a spiral bound serger technique workbook complete with clear and concise instructions plus all the fabrics, stabilizers and trims needed to complete the workbook. This is a very thorough learning tool to advance your knowledge of the serger and its techniques. I have a feeling you will be surprised to learn the many things your serger can do!
