Annual Catholic Appeal Kick-off Weekend

“Responding to God’s Grace”

St. Therese of Carmel Annual Catholic Appeal campaign kicked-off last weekend. All registered parishioners will have or should have received their packet that includes a

brochure with a pledge card and a return envelope. If you are a registered parishioner and have not received a packet, please pick one up in the back of the church or in the

parish office. You may also make your contribution on the diocesan website giving.sdcatholic.org. For more details on all the various programs that the ACA will be assisting throughout the year, please visit our website at stoc.org and click on the

“Responding to God’s Grace” icon to view a wonderful video that tells the story of how important it is, as a Catholic family, to support all the necessary community, diocesan

and parish missions that benefit all of us. Through prayer and reflection on all our great blessings and grace, we hope you decide to make a generous donation to the

Annual Catholic Appeal.

Ash Wednesday Masses

St. Thérèse of Carmel will have the

distribution of ashes at all five of the Masses on Ash Wednesday, March 6th. These Masses will be at 7:30AM, 12:00PM,

5:30PM (after Faith Formation), and

7:30PM.

Matthew Kelly Success

Thank you to everyone who helped make Matthew Kelly’s event a success. We had over 900 people in attendance and had many volunteers help both at the event and behind the scenes before the event. We hope that you all enjoyed

the event! We hope to be able to host similar events in the future!

Mass Intention Requests Mass Intentions are a wonderful way to remember and offer prayers for the deceased,

honor significant life events, the health of those with medical challenges, etc. To ensure that the mass intention requests are available to all of our community, the Mass Intention Book is opened in three month increments. There are two Masses available each weekend—the Saturday night Mass and one of the Sunday Masses. Each of the week day Masse are also

available .The rest of the Masses are offered for Missa pro populo or “the intentions of the people”.

Confirmation Year 2 Retreat

WHAT IS LOVE?

Last weekend over 100 of our teen parishioners preparing for confirmation got away from the distractions of everyday life and spent

time in the mountains of Julian pondering the mystery of God and reflecting the retreat’s theme, “What is love?”

“I’m coming back a different person.”

“I truly believe God has led me to this Church. Through this retreat, I know this community is unlike any other. I not only want to be more involved in the Church and STOCYM, but also find my path on my faith journey.”

“I feel like every time I come to a STOCYM retreat I learn something

new!”

“I am so thankful to be a part of the Youth Group! Thanks for being

there.”

Silent Ignatian Retreats

Silent Ignatian Retreats are based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, offered by the priests of Miles Christi, a religious order devoted to the laity’s sanctification.

Throughout the centuries, the spiritual exercises have become known as an excellent means of sanctification, highly praised by popes and saints. There will be spiritual talks,

Eucharistic adoration, daily Mass, and recitation of the Rosary at the men’s and women’s retreats.

Men Retreats: March 15-17 and April 18-20 (Holy Week) both in Oceanside. Women Retreats: April 18-20 (Holy Week) in Rancho Palos Verdes.

For more information, contact Christine Timmerman at [email protected] or at 858-263-5113.

Young Adult Mass and Breakfast This month’s young adult Mass and Breakfast will be after the 9AM Mass today, February 24th, at

Americana in Del Mar. We look forward to seeing you there!

National Catholic Sisters Week

Since 2014, March 8-14 is observed as National Catholic Sisters Week. Do you know that we have over 200 Sisters in our Diocese from 40 different congregations? Find out more about our Sisters on the Diocesan Sisters Webpage: www.sdcatholic.org/

sisters.

Reaching Out & Ministering to Hurting Families Series The Diocese of San Diego is sponsoring a workshop to help parents, family members, and

individuals break the stigma of teen depression and stop the epidemic of suicide in our country today, especially among Catholic youth. Presenter, Luke Maxwell, will share his story and information about the nonprofit he founded to empower teens and those around them to recognize, overcome, and be unashamed of their mental illnesses. The workshop will be held

at the Diocesan Pastoral Center on Thursday, March 7th, from 7 to 8:30PM. There is no cost for the event but donations will be gladly accepted. More information about the event can be

found at sdcatholic.org.

Baptism Baptisms are a communal Sacrament held on the 4th Sunday of each month after the 11:00am Mass. Deacon John Fanelle performs all of the baptisms. Parents are required to be formally registered as parishioners, and be participating members of our community for three months. Attending Mass does not make you registered. You must have completed the registration form. If this is the first child, both parents are required to attend the Baptismal Class. Baptismal classes are held on the first Sunday of each month. Godparents are encouraged to attend the baptismal class, either at our parish or their own parish. For more information, or to schedule a Baptism and/or register for the Baptismal Class, please visit https://sttheresecarmel.org/baptism/. Marriage

All couples wishing to be married at St. Thérèse of Carmel must be formally registered, active and participating members of our parish community for one year before setting a date. Couples are asked to allow six to nine months to complete the marriage preparation program. Please contact the parish office at (858) 481-3232 or email [email protected] to make arrangements.

RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults RCIA is the process by which the unbaptized are received into the Church through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist. Unbaptized adults seeking a deeper union with Jesus Christ, through initiation into the Catholic Faith, are cordially invited to consider participation in the RCIA which will begin in the fall. RCIA is also appropriate for Christians from other denominations who seek initiation into the Catholic tradition and for Baptized Catholics who need to finish their sacraments of initiation. Please contact Karen Klause (858) 354-7441 for more information.
