About The Chorus

Director:

Susan Leach - Hebert

Accompanist: David Wallace

About The Chorus The South Windsor Community Chorus members share a desire to provide entertainment, musical growth and education, personal challenge, creativity, and community service. The Chorus welcomes voices (with or without musical background) from South Windsor and the surrounding towns. This organization originally began in 1971 as “Friends of Music.” Bobbie Reeves (Director) and Karen Krinjak (Accompanist) volunteered their services to help raise money for band uniforms for the South Windsor High School. Today, membership ranges from 40 to 50 singers from towns throughout the region. The Chorus performs two major concerts a season, winter and spring, as well as shorter programs throughout the community. Our repertoire consists of light classical, popular show tunes, and traditional numbers. The group is sponsored in part by the Recreation Department of the Town of South Windsor, through the generosity of companies and organizations in the community, as well as by members of the chorus themselves. The Chorus awards its’ “Friends of Music” $500 scholarship each year, to a graduating Senior of South Windsor High School, pursuing a career in music.

From The President …

Music is the universal language; it is played and sung all over the world. The term “Music” is from the Greek “Art of the Muses”. Its potential is unbelievable. Music enhances our moods. There is “Happy and Sad music”. They say that music played or sung in the Major key (Jubilate

Deo, Dodi Li) makes you happy, while music in the Minor key (MLK) with a slow tempo leads to a feeling of sadness. This is what tonight’s winter concert is all about: Joy, Celebration, Memories. In putting together our concert program, we chose music such as The Snow Begins

to Fall, Do You Want to Build a Snowman, Jazz Gloria, and Love Train to share our joy of being with family and friends with all of you. Thank you for coming tonight and sharing our “Winter’s Heartbeat” concert with us.

From The Director … Happy New Year! Tonight’s program features reminders of the merriment and joy that occurred during the often chaotic Holiday season. Songs like “Swingin’ to the Sounds,” “Variations on Fa la la,” “Jazz Gloria” “Hine Ma Tov” celebrate the traditions of many of our families. Our program also looks forward to a New Year, a year filled with hope for a better world. With songs like “Wade in the Water”, “MLK,” “Put a little love in your heart” and “What a wonderful world,” we remind ourselves that joining together in LOVE can overcome the hate that often permeates this world. We also welcome back our instrumentalists Kenneth Hebert and Ross Burba. They have become an integral part of our chorus and its success. We have instrumentalists Megan Powell, a junior at SWHS, playing flute and South Windsor Elementary Instrumental teacher, Christina Garrison is playing soprano sax for us – showing a strong community of singers and instrumentalists exists here in the South Windsor area. As always, we appreciate their time and talent. Every concert is an honor to present to you. I hope you will enjoy!
