Headphones PictogramsFrequency response The frequency response characterises the range of frequencies which a pair of headphones can reproduce. It is measured in hertz (Hz). The average human ear is capable of hearing frequencies ranging from about 20 Hz to 16,000 Hz. The frequency response alone does not reveal much about the reproduction quality.

Total harmonic distortion (THD) The THD represents the percentage of non-linear distortions of a signal, the so-called harmonics. These particularly occur at lower frequencies when the motion of the diaphragm cannot follow the electrical signal precisely.

Impedance Impedance is the headphones resistance to alternating current and is measured in ohms (). The impedances of Sennheiser headphones range from 16 to 600 ohms which means they can be connected to all standard hi-fi components.

Signal-to-noise ratio Difference between the wanted signal and the background noise of an electrically operated device (e.g. amplifier, microphone). Signal-to-noise ratio is measured in dB.
