Semester Abroad at Weifang University
• Fall semester; End of August – December 20• Spring semester; End of February – End of July• Take prep course last 8 weeks of semester before you go
• Register for 12 BSU credits– 6 will be taught as face courses at WFU and we will have those course numbers soon– 6 or more online from BSU
• Stay in faculty apartments– Furnished; You pay rent and utilities

How is this Affordable?• Tuition for 12 BSU credits: Same as staying at BSU• 1 credit preparatory course this spring: $250 • Passport and visa cost: $305 or less if you already have a
passport• Travel: $1,400 round trip (approx.)• Housing and meals: $3,300 for a semester at BSU
$1,500 for a semester at Weifang U$1,800 savings
• Insurance and discount card $125 (International Program Center at BSU)
• Net costs for the semester: $280 above staying at BSU
What is Required?
1. Be a FULL-TIME BSU sophomore, junior or senior during the fall of 2013 with an overall GPA of 3.0 or above on BSU course work.
1. Attend an informational meeting held on the BSU campus. a. February 19, 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the Crying Wolf Room of the Hobson Union b. February 21, Noon-1:00 p.m. in Bensen Hall 115 (education building)
2. Explore the Weifang University and city web sites to get a feel for the university and setting.
3. Apply for the semester abroad by March 1. Send a one page letter - not an e-mail, although you may attach it to an e-mail - indicating what BSU online courses you will take while in Weifang along with why you wish to spend a semester abroad in China to: Dr. Sanjeev Phukan, Decker Hall 24, BSU (email: [email protected]).
4. AFTER acceptance, obtain a passport and visa. Our International Program Center will assist you in obtaining those. You pay for the passport and visa.
5. After acceptance, enroll in, and pay for, an 8 week course that is offered the last 8 weeks of spring semester. That course is: 136536 HUM 3107 01 Tpics/Cultural Stud-China 1 W 4:00pm - 5:40pm DH 19B

Work Abroad for CIBT
• CIBT Education Group, Weifang University, Beihai College and Bemidji State University collaborates to offer Work Abroad opportunities
• CIBT will provide at least 6 positions for BSU students each Chinese educational term (Feb-July; Aug-January)
Work Abroad for CIBT
• For upper-division undergraduate students at BSU, graduate students, or recent graduates (within past year) from Bemidji State University
• This is a competitive application process and applicants will be screened and hired by CIBT as they would for any corporate position.
Working Abroad: Details• Location: Weifang University and Beihai College, Weifang, China
• Teaching Duties: English language teaching to individuals and groups, adults, college students and children. Classroom management, creation of lesson plans, curriculum development, and informal co- curricular language instruction, English corner and other co-curricular activities, as required.
• Administrative Duties: Marketing and promotional activities, event planning, BSU student recruitment, participation in college fairs and informational seminars organized by CIBT Education Group and other duties as required.
• Academic Terms: February – July (6 months); August – January (6 months)
Courses Offered While Working Abroad
• College Courses Offered: Up to two courses (6 credit hours) in beginning or intermediate Chinese for spring and fall terms are available at Weifang University. Full tuition waivers provided while you work for CIBT.
• Assignment: 40 hours per week, approximately 10-15 hours of classroom instruction and related instructional activities; the remainder in marketing and promotional activities and other duties as assigned.
• Salary: RMB 3175 (approximately $500USD) per month
Accommodations, etc.• Accommodation: Provided free of charge in semi-private (shared, 2
persons per unit) furnished accommodation in staff housing adjacent to Weifang University. Included are basic furnishings, double bed, appliances, cable TV, A/C, and internet connection. Utility subsidy not to exceed RMB 300 per month also provided.
• Airfare: Roundtrip airfare allowance is provided to selected participants.
• Student Health Insurance: Emergency secondary insurance provided while on assignment in China; can keep BSU insurance if a student at BSU while working abroad for a semester
• In-Country Transportation: Provided for work-related activities
