PlayStation Network Security Breach Will Cost Sony Over $170 Million
ThehackerorhackersthatbroughtdownSonysvideogameandentertainmentserviceshascostthecompanymorethanjustcustomersatisfaction.AccordingtoSonysofficialearningsforecast,theshutdownofPlayStationNetworkandQriocity willcostthegamemakerapproximately$170million.Theattack,whichoccurredonApril20,resultedinthelossofcrucialcustomerinformationfrommillionsofSonygamersandentertainmentcustomers.Sonyhasinvestedheavilyinstrengtheningitsnetworksbeforerecentlyreopeningtheservice.Inaddition,thecompanyisofferingfreedatasecurityforitscurrentcustomersandofferingfreegamesandotherrewardsforthosewhoremainedthroughtheoutage.Wevebeenfortifyingoursystemsecurity,saidShuhei Yoshida,president,worldwidestudios,SonyComputerEntertainmentlastweek.ThepastthreeweekshavebeenthelongestinmylifeforPlayStation.Weappreciatethesupportandpatienceourcustomershaveshown.Wereinthefinalphaseofrestorationsandourtargetdatetogeteverythingupisbytheendofthismonth.Asecureonlineenvironmentisournumberonepriority. http://www.gamerlive.tv
