Searching by Title

1) Click Search in the menuand choose Title

2) In the dialogue box Search, typetitle (at least the beginning of title)

NOTE: Not all catalogue cards include the original title. For books in Polish it is better to use Polish title.

3) Click twice on the desired title

NOTE:Numbers next to title show number of items.

Always pay attention to the columnsLOCATION and STATUS

NOTE:In our example the catalogue shows information on 2 items. The first is in open stacks in BUW, and the second is in the Library of the Institute of History.

4) To find book placed in open stacksclick Card Scrn. button

NOTE:If locations is different from BUW Wolny Dostęp, use call number shown on this screen

5) In the field CLAS NUMBERyou can find the Library of Congress call number. This shows where the book is located in the open stacks

NOTE:First letters of the call number show the subject area; numbers represent subdivisions of subject

NOTE:You can also save search results on diskette, send them by e-mail, or print them

6) With the call number go to the propersubject area and subdivision. You can find yoursubject area on the map located on each level and the subdivision on subject area map

Final remarks

NOTE 2:Not all books and serials have records in the on-line catalogue. To find them, you should also search the card catalogues

NOTE 3:There are no call numbers (Library of Congress Classification) in card catalogues. Therefore you should always start searching from the on-line catalogue

NOTE 1:You do not need a requisition form to borrow a book from open stacks. If you can borrow the book go directly to the Circulation Desk
