Incident Narrative: (Type or Paste Text In Block)

On June 2, 2015, GRCA Dispatch received a satellite phone call from a river trip, reporting a missing guide at River Mile 213 on

the Colorado River. Morgan Heimer, 22 years old, of Cody, WY was facilitating an activity for the Tour West clients to jump off a low cliff into the water. The last client had completed the activity and Heimer and the Lead Guide had switched positions.

The Lead Guide had just talked to Heimer about taking a bit of t ime off that afternoon. The Lead Guide walked away from the cliff to talk to a client. When the Lead Guide turned around Heimer was gone. The Lead Guide assumed Heimer had walked away to take a break.

When Heimer did not show up for dinner, the group became concerned and started searching for him. They were unable to find him or any dues, so they contacted GRCA.

On June 3, NPS personnel flew to River Mile 213 and contacted the group. The helicopter searched the river. Hasty search

teams were inserted into the search area. Investigators were assigned. Containment at Diamond take out was covered by Coconino County Search and Rescue. Missing person posters were distributed. River Trips were notified.

The park continued to search with ground teams long the banks, the helicopter doing areal searching, and a boat team that

searched upriver from Diamond at RM 225.

There were no clues found along either shoreline. No was there any evidence that Heimer had attempted to hike out. Field teams were demobbed. The river team continued searching through June 81h without finding any clues.

On June 81h, the incident command team met and decided to go to Limited Continuous status.

On June 9th, Rangers went with Heimer's parents to Diamond. They met with a Hatch River Guide and boat and went upriver to RM 213, so the family could see the area.

RM 213 is a few miles above the Diamond Take Out. This area is busy during the summer months. On an average of one private trip every other day goes from Diamond to Pearce, two a day that take out at Pearce. Add in an average of four Hua1apai River Runner boats from Diamond to Pearce daily and also the Canyon Jet Boat service sends an average of one boat a day up from Pearce to around Separation Canyon and back. There are two Commercial trips per day in the area.

On July 23, 2015, rangers launched at Diamond to investigate a report of "bird activity" at RM 220. They searched eddies on

both sides of the river up to RM 217. At RM 220 they searched the shoreline. No new clues were found. They were unable to determine what the birds may have been interested in.

The River District did a Diamond Down river trip July 10-14. As of August 13, seven additional NPS river trips have gone through the area since Heimer became missing.

Heimer is described as a 22 year old male, 6' tall, blond hair, blue eyes and was last seen wearing a dark·colored Astral

personal flotation device, a blue plaid long sleeve shirt, a pair of Chaco sandals, a maroon baseball cap, and brightly colored shorts. Heimer was also carrying a purple water bottle with him when he was last seen.

The case is still open. Follow up search activity will continue whenever new clues or leads are found.

turned up no additional clues as to his whereabouts.

Heimer was last seen on Tuesday, June 2 at approximately 4 pm around River Mile 213 near Pumpkin Springs. Initial park response included searching the last known area by air and an immediate hasty search by rangers. For the past six days park rangers have extensively searched the river between River Miles 211-225 and on land stretching from River Mile 211·215.

Heimer is described as a 22 year old male, 6' tall, blond hair, blue eyes and was last seen wearing a dark-colored Astral personal flotation device, a blue plaid long sleeve shirt, a pair of Chaco flip-flop sandals, a maroon baseball cap, and brightly colored shorts. Morgan was also carrying a purple water bottle with him when he was last seen. Heimer is working as a guide for Tour West and the group was on day 6 of an 8 day trip when Heimer went missing.

With no additional clues to guide search efforts on land or water, the search will be scaled back to a continuous, but limited mode in which rangers and pilots will continue to search for clues when in the area. In addition, flyers with Heimer's picture and description remain posted at various South Rim locations and all launching river trips will briefed on searching for Heimer.

The National Park Service is currently conducting a Search and Rescue operation. A missing

persons investigation is on-going. No further information is available at this time.Any individual

Grand Canyon, Ariz.- A Grand Canyon National Park search mission continues for Morgan Heimer of Cody, WY, who went missing June 2 at River Mile 213 on the Colorado River.

A river search team focused efforts today along the river and shore in the search area and will continue search activities over the weekend. The search area is located near River Mile 213, also known as Pumpkin Springs. At this time, the investigation into Heimer's disappearance is ongoing.

A member of Heimer's river trip reported him missing to the National Park Service at 7:26 pm on June 2. Heimer is described as a 22 year-old male, 6' tall, blond hair, blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored Astral personal flotation device, a blue plaid long sleeve shirt, a pair of Chaco sandals, a maroon baseball cap, and brightly colored shorts. He was also carrying a purple water bottle with him when we was last seen. Heimer is working as a guide for Tour West.

Grand Canyon, Ariz.- A Grand Canyon National Park search and rescue mission continues for Morgan Heimer of Cody, WY who went missing June 2 at River Mile 213 on the Colorado River.

Today's responding resources include three ground teams and one river team. The search area is located near River Mile 213, also known as Pumpkin Springs. The search and rescue teams will battle heat, thick stands of tamarisk, boulders, and other difficult terrain, as well as deep water with a strong current. At this time, search teams have found no clues or signs of Heimer.
