GENERAL INFORMATIONAND INSTALLATION

A. INTRODUCTION

This manual provides the specifications and thestep-by-step procedures for the installation, start-up and operation, maintenance and cleaning forthe SIMAG SDN Series Icemakers. The SIMAG SDN cubers are quality designed, engineered and manufactured.Their ice making systems are thoroughly testedproviding the utmost in flexibility to fit the needsof a particular user.

NOTE. To retain the safety and performancebuilt into this icemaker, it is important thatinstallation and maintenance be conductedin the manner outlined in this manual.

B. UNPACKING AND INSPECTION

1. Call your authorized SIMAG Distributor orDealer for proper installation.

2. Visually inspect the exterior of the packingand skid. Any severe damage noted should bereported to the delivering carrier and a concealeddamage claim form filled in subjet to inspection ofthe contents with the carrier’s representativepresent.

3. a) Cut and remove the plastic strip securingthe carton box to the skid.

b) Remove the packing nails securing thecarton box to the skid.

c) Cut open the top of the carton and removethe polystyre protection sheet.

d) Pull out the polystyre posts from thecorners and then remove the carton.

4. Remove the front and the rear panels of theunit and inspect for any concealed damage.Notify carrier of your claim for the concealeddamage as stated in step 2 above.

5. Remove all internal support packing andmasking tape.

6. Check that refrigerant lines do not rubagainst or touch other lines or surfaces, and thatthe fan blades move freely.

7. Check that the compressor fits snugly ontoall its mounting pads.

8. See data plate on the rear side of the unitand check that local main voltage correspondswith the voltage specified on it.

CAUTION. Incorrect voltage supplied tothe icemaker will void your partsreplacement program.

9. Remove the manufacturer’s registrationcard from the inside of the User Manual and fill-in all parts including: Model and Serial Numbertaken from the data plate.Forward the completed self-addressedregistration card to SIMAG factory.

C. LOCATION AND LEVELLING

WARNING. This Ice Maker is designed forindoor installation only. Extended periodsof operation at temperature exceedingthe following limitations will constitutemisuse under the terms of the SIMAGManufacturer’s Limited Warranty resultingin LOSS of warranty coverage.

1. Position the machine bin in the selectedpermanent location and tighten the four legs(SDN 35 - 45 - 65 - SD 80 - 125 - 210).Criteria for selection of location include:

a) Minimum room temperature 10°C (50°F)and maximum room temperature 40°C (100°F).

b) Water inlet temperatures: minimum 5°C(40°F) and maximum 40°C (100°F).

c) Well ventilated location for air cooledmodels (clean the air cooled condenser atfrequent intervals).

d) Service access: adequate space must beleft for all service connections through the rear ofthe ice maker. A minimum clearance of 15 cm(6") must be left at the sides of the unit for routingcooling air drawn into and exhausted out of thecompartment to maintain proper condensingoperation of air cooled models.

NOTE. With the unit in “built-in” conditions, the ice production is gradually reduced inrespect to the levels shown in the graph, upto a maximum of 10% at room temperatureshigher than 32°C.The daily ice-making capacity is directlyrelated to the condenser air inlet temperatu-re, water temperature and age of the machine. To keep your SIMAG CUBER at peak perfor-mance levels, periodic maintenance checksmust be carried out as indicated on thismanual.

2. Level the Icemaker in both the left to rightand front to rear directions by means of theadjustable legs.

D. ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS

See data plate for current requirements todetermine wire size to be used for electricalconnections. All SIMAG icemakers require asolid earth wire. All SIMAG ice machines are supplied from thefactory completely pre-wired and require onlyelectrical power connections to the wire cordprovided at the rear of the unit.

Page 1

Make sure that the ice machine is connected toits own circuit and individually fused (see dataplate for fuse size). The maximum allowable voltage variation shouldnot exceed -10% and +10% of the data platerating. Low voltage can cause faulty functioningand may be responsible for serious damage tothe overload switch and motor windings.

NOTE. All external wiring should conform tonational, state and local standards andregulations.

Check voltage on the line and the ice maker’sdata plate before connecting the unit.

E. WATER SUPPLY AND DRAINCONNECTIONS

GENERAL

When choosing the water supply for the cuberconsideration should be given to:

a) Length of runb) Water clarity and purityc) Adequate water supply pressure

Since water is the most important single ingredientin producing ice you cannot emphasize too muchthe three items listed above.Low water pressure, below 1 bar may causemalfunction of the ice maker unit.Water containing excessive minerals will tend toproduce cloudy colored ice cubes, plus scalebuild-up on the interior parts of the water system.

WATER SUPPLY

Connect the 3/4" GAS male of the water inletfitting, using the food grade flexible tubing suppliedwith the machine, to the cold water supply linewith regular plumbing fitting and a shut-off valve

installed in an accessible position between thewater supply line and the unit.If water contains a high level of impurities, it isadvisable to consider the installation of anappropriate water filter or conditioner.

WATER SUPPLY - WATER COOLED MODELS(SD 80-125-210)

The water cooled versions of SIMAG Ice Makersrequire two separate inlet water supplies, one forthe water making the ice and the other for thewater cooled condenser.Connect the 3/4" GAS male fitting of the waterinlet, using the flexible tubing supplied with theunit, to the cold water supply line with regularplumbing fitting and a shut-off valve installed inan accessible position between the water supplyline and the unit.

WATER DRAIN

Connect the drain fitting with a plastic tube to anopen trapped and vented drain. When the drainis a long run, allow 3 cm pitch per meter (1/4"pitch per foot). On water cooled versions, the water drain linefrom the condenser is internally connected withthe drain fitting of the unit.It is strongly recommended therefore to install avertical open vent on unit drain line high point toensure good draining and to direct the drain lineto a trapped and vented floor drain receptacle.

NOTE. The water supply and the water drainmust be installed to conform with the localcode. In some case a licensed plumber and/or a plumbing permit is required.

OPERATINGINSTRUCTIONS

START UP

After having correctly installed the ice maker andcompleted the plumbing and electricalconnections, perform the following “Start-up”procedure.

A. Put the icemaker in operation by moving theunit master switch, located on the cabinet front,to the ON position.

NOTE. The icemaker control is factory setwith the timer microswitches actuatorsdropped off into the initial point of the camslot. This setting position allows a properwater filling.

The unit starts operating in the “defrost cycle”with the following components being activated:THE WATER INLET SOLENOID VALVETHE HOT GAS SOLENOID VALVETHE CONTACTOR COIL (SD 80-125-210)THE FAN MOTOR (only SDN 25÷45) air cooledTHE COMPRESSORTHE TIMER MOTOR

B. During the water filling operation, check tosee that the incoming water dribblers, throughthe evaporator platen dribbler holes, down intothe sump reservoir to fill it up and also that theincoming surplus of water flows out through theoverflow pipe into the drain line.

NOTE. If, in the defrost cycle length, themachine sump reservoir does not get filledwith water up to the rim of the overflow pipe, remove the front panel and rotate the shaft ofthe timer so to cause the dropping of the twomicroswitches actuators into the beginningof the cam slot and check for:

1. The water pressure of the water supplyline, it must be at least 1 bar (14 psig)Minimum (Max 5 bar-70 psig).

2. The filtering device installed in the waterline that may reduce the water pressurebelow the Minimum value of 1 bar (14 psig).

3. Any clogging situation in the water circuitlike the inlet water strainer and/or the flowcontrol.

OPERATIONAL CHECKS

C. At completion of the water filling phase theunit initiate automatically the first freezing cyclewith the start up of (Fig.1):

COMPRESSOR

CONTACTOR COIL (SD 80-125-210)WATER PUMPFAN MOTOR (in air cooled version)

D. Check to see through the ice dischargeopening that the spray system is correctly seatedand that the water jets uniformely reach theinterior of the inverted mold cups or the exteriorof the evaporator tips; also make sure that theplastic curtain is hanging freely and there is notexcessive water spilling through it.

E. The ice making process takes place thereby, with the water sprayed into the molds or onto thetips that gets gradually refrigerated by the heatexchange with the refrigerant flowing into theevaporator serpentine.During the first portion of the freezing cycle, thetimer assy is standing-by with its microswitchesactuators resting on the raised cam profile(position that correspond to the end of the defrostcycle).

F. Then, as the cube size control cut-in point isreached by the evaporator temperature the controlof the cycle is passed to the timer assy. Whoseraised cam slowly rotates to continue the freezingcycle (2nd phase) up to its completition. The components in operation during this 2ndphase of the cycle are (Fig.2):COMPRESSORCONTACTOR COIL (SD 80-125-210)WATER PUMPFAN MOTOR (in air cooled version)TIMER MOTOR

G. After about 18÷20 minutes from thebeginning of the freezing cycle, in an hypotheticambient temperature of 21°C, the defrost cycletakes place with the hot gas and the water inletvalves being simoultaneously activated. The electrical components in operation are (Fig.3):COMPRESSORCONTACTOR COIL (SD 80-125-210)WATER INLET SOLENOID VALVEHOT GAS VALVETIMER MOTORFAN MOTOR (only SDN 25÷45) air cooled

H. Check, during the defrost cycle, that theincoming water flows correctly into the sumpreservoir in order to refill it and that the surplusoverflows through the overflow drain tube.

I. Check the texture of ice cubes just released. They have to be of the right size with a thicknessof about 7÷8 mm.If the ice cubes have not the correct size, wait fora second harvest before attempting anyadjustment by setting the cube size control.

Page 4

By rotating the control setting screw clockwisethe ice cube thickness can be increased; on thecontrary the thickness can be reduced by turningthe setting screw counterclockwise. If the ice cubes are shallow and cloudy, it ispossible that the ice maker runs short of waterduring the freezing cycle second phase or, thequality of the supplied water requires the use ofan appropriate water filter or conditioner.

J. With the icemaker in the harvest cycle, holdice against the bin thermostat control bulb to testits shut off (Fig.4). This should cause the icemaker to shut OFF after 30 seconds, 1 minute atthe most, namely when the control bulb tempera-ture drops to reach +1°C.

NOTE. In case this test is performed duringthe freezing cycle, the unit will shut OFF onlyat the end of the freeezing cycle and exactlywhen the timer switch actuators drop-off intothe cam slot (Fig.5).

Within minutes after the ice is removed from thesensing bulb, the bulb will warm up to reach +4°Cand consequently will cause the icemaker torestart from the harvest (defrost) cycle.

K. Instruct the owner/user on the generaloperation of the ice machine and about thecleaning and care it requires.

Page 5

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

In the SIMAG cube ice makers the water used tomake the ice is kept constantly in circulation byan electric water pump which primes it to thespray system nozzles from where it is divertedinto the molds of the evaporator.A small quantity of the sprayed water freezes intoice; the rest of it cascades by gravity into thesump assembly below for recirculation.

FREEZING CYCLE

The hot gas refrigerant discharged out from thecompressor reaches the condenser where, beingcooled down, condenses into liquid. Flowing intothe liquid line it passes through the drier filter, then it goes all the way through the capillary tubewhere, due to the heat exchanging action, itlooses some of its heat content so that its pressureand temperature are lowered as well.Next the refrigerant enters into the evaporatorserpentine (which has a larger I.D. then thecapillary) and starts to boil off; this reaction isemphasized by the heat transferred by thesprayed water. The refrigerant then increases in volume andchanges entirely into vapor. The vapor refrigerant then passes through thesuction accumulator (used to prevent that anysmall amount of liquid refrigerant may reach thecompressor) and through the suction line. In boththe accumulator and the suction line it exchangesheat with the refrigerant flowing into the capillarytube (warmer), before to be sucked in thecompressor and to be recirculated as hotcompressed refrigerant gas.The freezing cycle is controlled by the evaporatorthermostat (which has its bulb in contact with theevaporator serpentine) that determines the lengthof its first portion of the cycle. When the temperature of the evaporatorthermostat bulb drops to a pre-set value, theevaporator thermostat changes its contacts (from3-4 to 3-2) suppling power to the finishing timerthat takes the control of the second timed portionof the freezing cycle up to its completion. The length of this second timed portion of thefreezing cycle is pre-fixed and related to thesetting of the upper part of the timer cam.The electrical components in operation duringthe freezing cycle are:COMPRESSORCONTACTOR COIL (SD 80-125-210)FAN MOTOR (in air cooled version)WATER PUMPand during the second phase of freezing cycle(Time mode) they are joined by theTIMER

On the SDN 65, SD 80, SD 125 and SD 210 aircooled the refrigerant head pressure, in the courseof the freezing cycle, ranges between 8÷10 barsSDN 65, 8÷9,5 bars SD 80 and 15,5÷20 barsSD 125-210 being controlled by the hi-pressurecontrol.

When the discharge pressure rises up to a preset value, the pressure control closes its electricalcontacts suppling power to the FAN MOTOR.As soon as the discharged refrigerant pressuredrops, the pressure control opens its contacts totemporarely de-energize the fan motor. On othersair cooled models (SDN 25÷45) the fan motor isconstantly activated and retain the head pressurebetween 8÷10 bars (110÷140 psig). On the models from SDN 25÷65 water cooledversion the same hi-pressure control is used tointermittently energize a water solenoid valvelocated on the water supply line to the condenser. On the other models SD 80-125-210, in watercooled version, the discharge pressure is keptconstant by the water regulating valve that metersthe water flow to the condenser.

NOTE. In case of shortage/insufficient coolingwater or air condenser dirty, the operation ofthe safety device by hand reset will stop themachine as soon as the temperature reach70/75 °C (160/170 °F) or the correspondingpressure. After eliminated the cause of thestop, put the machine in operation bypushing the reset button of the safetythermostat or pressure switch across theholes in the down/right side of the front panelor removing it.

At the start of the freezing cycle the refrigerantsuction or lo-pressure lowers rapidly to 0,8 bars(11 psig) SDN 25÷SD80, 3,6 bars (50 psig) SD125 and 2,4 bars (34 psig) SD 210 then itdeclines gradually - in relation with the growing ofthe ice thickness - to reach, at the end of thecycle, approx. 0,1 bars (1,4 psig) SDN 25÷SD80,1,5 bars (21 psig) SD 125, and 1,3 bars (18psig) SD 210 with the cubes fully formed in thecup molds. The total length of the freezing cycle ranges from18 to 20 minutes.

DEFROST OR HARVEST CYCLE

As the electric timer has carried the systemthroughout the second phase of freezing cycle, the defrost cycle starts.

NOTE. The length of the defrost cycle is pre-determined by the setting of the lower portionof the timer cam.In case it is possible to modify the defrostcycle length through its setting screw.

ATTENTION. The defrost period is themost critical for the icemaker maincomponents expecially the compressor. To avoid to abuse of them it is stronglyrecommended to limit the harvest cycleextension to 4 minutes at the most.

The electrical components in operation duringthis phase are:

COMPRESSOR

Page 6

CONTACTOR COIL (SD 80-125-210)FAN MOTOR (only SDN 25÷45) air cooledWATER INLET SOLENOID VALVEHOT GAS SOLENOID VALVETIMER MOTORThe incoming water, passing through the waterinlet valve and in its incorporated flow control(outlet), runs over the evaporator platen and thenflows by gravity through the dribbler holes downinto the sump/reservoir.The water filling the sump/reservoir forces part ofthe left-over water from the previous batch to runout to the waste through the overflow pipe. Thisoverflow limits the level of the sump water whichwill be used to produce the next batch of icecubes.Meanwhile, the refrigerant as hot gas, dischargedfrom the compressor, flows through the hot gasvalve directly into the evaporator serpentine by-passing the condenser. The hot gas circulating into the serpentine of theevaporator warms up the copper molds or thetips causing the defrost of the ice cubes. The icecubes, released from the molds, drop by gravityonto a slanted grid chute, then through a curtainedopening they fall into the storage bin.At the end of the defrost cycle, both the hot gasand the water inlet valves close and the machinestarts again a new freezing cycle.

OPERATION - CONTROL SEQUENCE

At the start of freezing cycle, the evaporatorthermostat controls the length of the first part ofthe freezing cycle. As its bulb senses apredetermined temperature, it closes its contactsto supply power to the timer motor which, in turn, takes over the control of the freezing cycle. This second part of the cycle has a pre-fixed timeduration which is relied to the setting extension ofthe cam high profile.

NOTE. The evaporator thermostat is factoryset to the number 4 of its setting dial.In case it is required the setting of theevaporator thermostat can be made by turningits adjusting screw located on front side. With a clockwise rotation of the setting screwthe thermostat cut IN temperature will belowered (longer freezing cycle - thicker icecube) while, with a counterclockwise rotationof the screw, the Cut IN temperature rises(shorter freezing cycle - thiner ice cube).

Once completed the freezing cycle 2nd phasethe system switches automatically into the defrostcycle which has a pre-fixed length as well.At completion of the defrost period the unit startsagain a new freezing cycle.

OPERATION - ELECTRICAL SEQUENCE

The following charts illustrate which switchesand which components are ON or OFF during aparticular phase of the icemaking cycle.Refer to the wiring diagram for a reference.

OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS

On air cooled models during the freezing cyclethe discharge pressure is kept between 8÷10bars (110÷140 psig) SDN25÷SD80, 15,5÷20 bars(215÷280 psig) SD 125-210.At the same time the suction pressure willgradually decline, reaching its lowest point justbefore harvest. Compressor amps experience asimilar drop.

COMPONENTS DESCRIPTION

A. MASTER SWITCH

Fitted on the front side of the unit cabinet themaster switch has to be used to start-up and tostop the ice maker operation. In connection with it there is the green monitorlight.

B. EVAPORATOR THERMOSTAT

The evaporator thermostat with its sensing bulbintimately in contact with the refrigerant outlettube from the evaporator, senses the evaporatingrefrigerant temperature (which declines in thecourse of the freezing cycle) and when this onereaches the pre-set value, it switches its contactsfrom 3-4 to 3-2 to activate the finishing cycle (2ndphase) which has a pre-set extension determinedby the large diameter lobe of the timer cam.

C. BIN THERMOSTAT

The bin thermostat, which has its sensing bulbdownward into the storage bin, shuts-OFFautomatically the icemaker when the ice storagebin is filled and ice contacts its bulb. Being itconnected in series with the front microswitch ofthe timer, it causes the unit shut-off only at theend of the freezing cycle, when the ice cubes arecompleted.

After ice is removed from the bin and its bulbwarm-up it allows the unit to restart from thebeginning of the harvest cycle which, in thecircumstance, is more likely a water filling cycle.

D. TIMER

Equipped with two microswitches which plungersride one timer cam, the timer is located inside thecontrol box.The function of the timer begins when activatedby the cube size control (evap. thermostat). The large diameter lobe of its cam determinesthe 2nd freezing cycle portion length, while thecam small diameter lobe, determines the timecycle for the harvest sequence. The timer cam can be adjusted to vary the defrosttime as required.

WARNING. Never set the defrost time forlonger than 4 minutes as this willjeopardize the compressor motorwindings.

It goes without saying that an extension of thedefrost period will directly reduce the timed portionof the freezing cycle and viceversa.Consequently any variation made at the timercam setting requires a compensation adjustment, very fine and very accurate, of the evaporatorthermostat.

E. COMPRESSOR SWITCH

The compressor switch is located on the edge ofthe control box and it can be switched in twodifferent positions which are:

Operation Supply power directly to thecompressor motor or, on modelsSD 80, SD 125 and SD 210, directlyto the contactor coil.

Cleaning Shuts-off the compressor so thatonly the water pump and the waterinlet valve will remain in operation.

When positioned on “0 - OFF” the water pumpprimes the cleaning or the bactericide solutionallover the unit water system to generate a goodcleaning and sanitizing action of the ice maker.

NOTE. It is recommended to avoid the rinsing, after the sanitation of the unit water system,as any bactericide coating, which is beneficialto limit the bacteria growth, left-over in thesystem may be removed.

F. HI PRESSURE CONTROL

Used either on air (SDN65-SD80-125-210A) andwater (SDN25÷65W) cooled ice makers itfunctions to maintain the head pressure withinthe preset values of 8÷10 bars (110÷140 psig)SDN25÷SD80, and 15,5÷20 bars (215÷280 psig)SD 125-210, by intermittently activating the fanmotor (in the air cooled models) and the waterinlet valve to the condenser (in the water cooledmodels SDN25-30-35-45-65).

Page 8

L. FAN MOTOR (Air cooled version)

The fan motor, in the SDN60-SD-80-125-210models is electrically connected in series with thepressure control operates during the freezingcycle to draw cooling air through the condenserfins so to keep the condensing pressure betweenthe two preset values 8÷10 bars (110÷140 psig)SD 80 and 15,5÷20 bars (215÷280 psig) SD 125-210.In the other models SDN 25-30-35-45 the fanmotor works continuosly in order to maintain thecondensing pressure between 8÷10 bars(110÷140 psig).

M. WATER INLET SOLENOID VALVE -3/4 MALE FITTING(SDN 25 ÷ 65 water cooled version)

A second water inlet solenoid valve, operatingthrough an automatic hi-pressure control, is usedon water cooled versions to supply water to thecondenser. When activated it supplies a metered amount ofwater to the condenser in order to limit its tempe-rature and the refrigerant operating high pressure.

N. WATER REGULATING VALVE(Water cooled version SD 80 ÷ 210)

This valve controls the head pressure in therefrigerant system by regulating the flow of watergoing to the condenser. As pressure increases, the water regulating val-ve opens to increase the flow of cooling water.

O. COMPRESSOR

The hermetic compressor is the heart of therefrigerant system and it is used to circulate andretrieve the refrigerant throughout the entiresystem. It compresses the low pressure refrigerantvapor causing its temperature to rise and becomehigh pressure hot vapor which is then releasedthrough the discharge valve.

P. CONTACTOR (SD 80-125-210 only)

Placed inside the control box it operates in orderto close or open the electrical circuit to thecompressor.

G. SAFETY THERMOSTAT/PRESSURE SWITCH(BY HAND RESET)

Fastened directly onto the refrigerant liquid lineand electrically connected upstream all othercontrols, this safety device shut-off the icemakerswhen senses that the temperature at the liquidline has rised to the limit of 75°C (170°F) orcorresponding pressure.

H. WATER SPRAY SYSTEM

It consists of one spray bar with several spraynozzles on its extension. The water pumped, is sprayed through its nozzlesin each individual mold or onto each evaporatortip to be frozen into ice.

I. WATER PUMP

The water pump operates continually throughoutthe freezing cycle. The pump primes the water from the sump to thespray system and through the spray nozzlessprays it to the copper molds or onto theevaporator tips to be frozen into crystal clear icecubes. It is recommended that the pump motorbearings be checked at least every six months.

J. WATER INLET SOLENOID VALVE -3/4 MALE FITTING

The water inlet solenoid valve is activated by thetimer microswitch only during the defrost cycle. When energized it allows a metered amount ofincoming water to flow over the evaporator cavityto assist the hot gas in defrosting the ice cubes. The water running over the evaporator cavitydrops by gravity, through the dribbler holes of theplaten, into the sump reservoir where it will besucked by the water pump and primed to thespray system.

K. HOT GAS SOLENOID VALVE

The hot gas solenoid valve consists basically intwo parts: the valve body and the valve coil.Located on the hot gas line, this valve is energizedthrough the timer microswitch conctatsCOM-NC during the defrost cycle.During the defrost cycle the hot gas valve coil isactivated so to attract the hot gas valve piston inorder to give way to the hot gas discharged fromcompressor to flow directly into the evaporatorserpentine to defrost the formed ice cubes.

MAINTENANCE ANDCLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

A. GENERAL

The periods and the procedures for maintenanceand cleaning are given as guides and are not tobe construed as absolute or invariable.Cleaning, especially, will vary depending uponlocal water and ambient conditions and the icevolume produced; and, each icemaker must bemaintened individually, in accordance with itsparticular location requirements.

B. ICEMAKER

The following maintenance should be scheduledat least two times per year on these icemakers,by using the SIMAG technical service.

1. Check and clean the water line strainer.

2. Check that the icemaker is levelled in sideto side and in front to rear directions.

3. Clean the water system, evaporator, binand spray jets using a solution of Ice MachineCleaner.Refer to procedure C cleaning instructions andafter cleaning will indicate frequency and proce-dure to be followed in local areas.

NOTE. Cleaning requirements vary accordingto the local water conditions and individualuser operation. Continuous check of the clarityof ice cubes and visual inspection of thewater spraying parts before and after cleaningwill indicate frequency and procedure to befollowed in local areas.

4. With the ice machine and fan motor OFF onair cooled models, clean condenser using vacuumcleaner, whisk broom or non metallic brush takingcare to do not damage both the condenser andambient temperature sensors.

5. Check for water leaks and tighten drain lineconnections. Pour water down bin drain line to besure that drain line is open and clear.

6. Check size, condition and texture of icecubes. Perform adjustment of the evaporatorthermostat or cube size control by turning itsadjusting screw clockwise for a thicker ice cubeand counterclockwise for a thiner one.

7. Check the bin thermostat to test shut-off.Put a handfull of ice cubes in contact with its bulb. This should cause the ice maker to shut off within20÷30", but only at the end of the freezing cycle!

NOTE. Perform the above check only at thebeginning of the harvest cycle as, during thefreezing cycle the bin thermostat contactsare bypassed by the front microswitch of thetimer.

Page 12

When remove the ice cubes from its sensingbulb the unit will restart after few seconds fromthe defrost cycle assuring the filling up of thewater tank.

NOTE. It is possible to adjust the settingtemperature of the bin thermostat by slightlyturning its adjusting screw.

8. Check for refrigerant leaks.

C. CLEAN - REPLACE OF AIRCONDENSER FILTER

1. Withdraw the air filter from the front throughthe opening of the front panel.

2. Blow pressurised air on the opposite directionof the condenser air flow so to remove thedust accumulated.

3. If pressurised air is not available, use tapwater always in the counter flow air diretcion.Once cleaned shake it so to remove most ofthe accumulated water, then dry it using anhair dryer.

NOTE. In case the air filter strainer isdamaged replace it with a new one.

4. Install it again by pushing it through the frontpanel opening.

D. CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS OF WATERSYSTEM

1. Remove the front and the top panels to gainaccess either to the control box and to theevaporator.

8. Let the unit to remain in the CLEANINGmode for about 20 minutes then switch OFF themachine.

9. Flush out the cleaning solution from thesump reservoir then pour onto the evaporatorcavity one or two liters of clean potable water withthe antibacteria solution P/N 26400002 to rinseand sanitize the molds and the spray system. If necessary remove the spary bar and nozzles toclean them separately then refit them.

10. Set back the master switch to ON. Thewater pump is again in operation to circulate thewater and the antibacterial solution in order torinse the entire water system.Switch OFF the unit after approx. 10 minutes andflush out the rinsing water from the sump reservoir.

11. To rotate the timer so that the microswitchesreach the beginning of the defrost cycle (low partof the cam) give power to the unit by the masterswitch.By doing so are energized the water pump andthe water inlet valve. In this way the incamingwater flow away to fill up the water tank.

12. When the water tank is filled up (waterflowing out from the drain) put the compressorswitch on I ON position to restart the machine inthe automatic mode.

13. Re-fit the evaporator cover and the unitservice panels.

14. At completion of the freezing and harvestcycle make sure of proper texture and clearnessof the ice cubes and that, they do not have anyacid taste.

ATTENTION. In case the ice cubes arecloudy, white and have an acid taste, meltthem immediately by pouring on themsome warm water. This to prevent somebody from usingthem.

15. Wipe clean and rinse the inner surfaces ofthe storage bin.

REMEMBER. To prevent the accumulationof undesirable bacteria it is necessary tosanitize the interior of the storage bin withan anti-algae disinfectant solution everyweek .

Page 13

2. Wait till the end of defrost cycle then, shutthe unit OFF by means of its master switch.

3. Scoop out all the ice cubes stored into thebin in order to prevent them from beingcontaminated with the cleaning solution thenflush out the water from the sump reservoir byremoving the overflow stand-pipe.

4. Remove the plastic cup located on thebottom of sump/freezing chamber to drain out allwater and scale deposits.

5. Prepare the cleaning solution by diluting ina plastic container two or three liters of warmwater (45°÷50°C) with a 0,2÷0,3 liters of IceMachine Cleaner PIN 00100901.

WARNING. The Ice Machine Cleanercontains Phosphoric and Hydroxyaceticacids. These compounds are corrosiveand may cause burns if swallowed, DONOT induce vomiting. Give large amountsof water or milk. Call Physicianimmediately. In case of external contactflush with water. KEEP OUT OF THEREACH OF CHILDREN

6. Remove the evaporator cover then slowlypour onto the evaporator platen the cleaningsolution. With the help of a brush dissolve themost resistant and remote scale deposits in theplaten.

7. Set the compressor switch on "0 - OFF"position and give power to the unit by the masterswitch (Fig.6).

NOTE. With the system in CLEANING modethe water pump is the only component inoperation to circulate the cleaning solution inthe entire water system.

A. HAUPTSCHALTER

I. PUMPE

A. VORAUSSETZUNG
