He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Composion at the University of Kansas in 2016. His works are published by Southern Music Company, Walton Music, GIA Publicaons, and G. Schirmer. Jones is an alum of Westminster Choir College and his choral works have been described as "a feast of succulent modern harmonies" in the American Record Guide. His piece, I Would Live in Your Love, was premiered and recorded by the Westminster Choir, conducted by Joe Miller in 2009. He is regularly commissioned by collegiate and high school choirs and bands. Addionally, Jones is the winner of the 2015 ORTUS Internaonal New Music Compeon, 2016 Anthony Cuis Award, and his song cycle, "Six Qabbani Love Songs was both an American Prize semifinalist and a 2016 NATS Art Song Compeon finalist. Scosh Highland Overture was commissioned by the MacArthur Middle School in Lawton, OK, in honor of their longtime conductor, Sue Ann Hannah. Taking inspiration from the schools mascot (the Scots) the piece is based very loosely on the Scottish folk song, The Dowie Dens o Yarrow. The faster A section contains lots of rhythmic interplay between voices while the B section gives everyone a chance to play in a very lyrical and legato style. This fun and playable overture is a great introduction to the Dorian mode for young bands, and features a short horn section soli opening the middle section, with ample cross-cueing to provide additional support as needed.Copyright 2017 Southern Music Company (ASCAP). The MacArthur Middle School mascot is the Scots so I decided to create something that would remind listeners of a traditional Scottish folk melody. This piece provides a great opportunity for young bands to learn about the Dorian mode as this tune features it prominently. The tune is based very loosely on the Scottish folk song, The Dowie Dens o Yarrow. The faster A sections contain lots of rhythmic interplay between voices while the B section gives everyone a chance to play in a very lyrical and legato style. Mrs. Hannahs main instrument is the French horn and I feature the horn in the slower middle section. Young bands will enjoy Scottish Highlands Overture!
