Newsletter - Term 2 2015 Welcome back to all members of the
TRBPS community! On a lovely sunny autumn morning it
was charming to see all of the happy and
smiling faces of the children as they
entered the school gates ready and
refreshed to begin term 2. All of the staff
also came back to work looking very
refreshed and relaxed ready for a busy
and exciting term 2. We hope you all
enjoyed some relaxing and fun family
time during the holiday period.
Thank you to all of the families who
ensured our gardens were looked after
and that our facilities were safe over the
holiday period. A special thank you to
Kel Segbedzi (convenor of BAGs) for
organising the working team who
completed a clean-up and various
ground maintenance works that were
completed including the soft-fall for the
playgrounds. We really do appreciate the
great effort and time you devote in
ensuring our facilities and grounds look
really clean and tidy and are safe before
the start of each school term. The
pictures accompanying this newsletter
show some of this grounds work in
action. Thank you to the BAGs team
members who also assisted with these
tasks and Mr Peter Seddon who also
assisted with this work.
Thank you to the Camp Australia staff
who coordinated a very successful
holiday program at the school which
assists working parents and provides an
avenue for entertainment and learning
for our students during the holiday
period.

Successful Schools Start with Healthy Minds Tucker Road Bentleigh Primary School has made a commitment to become a KidsMatter school. This initiative builds
relationships and shared understandings. The whole school will focus on implementing prevention strategies and optimising an
individual’s capacity to think and act positively.
KidsMatter is a mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention initiative set in primary schools and in early childhood
education and care (ECEC) services – like preschools, kindergartens and day care centres.
KidsMatter is a framework that helps these places put evidence-based strategies in place to support the mental health needs of
their community.
It was developed by experts in mental health, education and early childhood in response to troubling figures relating to children’s
mental health and the growing national call for action.
KidsMatter sits under Australia’s National Mental Health Plan, which promotes a population-level approach to mental health and
emphasises the need for cross-sectoral linkages. KidsMatter seeks to partner with education, early childhood, and health and
community sectors to optimise children’s mental health and wellbeing holistically and early in life.
We will be keeping parents and the community informed with regular articles in the newsletter and holding forums for parents. At
this stage we have formulated a Student Wellbeing Action Team and then we will be looking at following up with briefings to staff
and parents.

Ride 2 School Day – Term 2
Active April begins next week and to celebrate being active Tucker Road will be hosting Ride 2 School Day
on Wednesday 22nd April, 2015. Active travel is a great way for students of all ages to meet their recommended daily dose of 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
The purpose of the National Ride 2 School Day is to show school communities that riding, walking, scooting
and skating to school is an easy and fun activity. It is a chance to celebrate active travel on a large scale and
prove it can be done!
At the beginning of next term students will have the opportunity to participate in a poster design
competition, so get your thinking helmets on over the holidays. On the day there will designated areas for
students in each level to park their scooters and bikes and lots of prizes to win!
We look forward to seeing lots of you riding, walking, scooting or skating to school. Don’t forget your
helmets!
