School – Community Partnerships

The School and Community Partnership Department exists to accelerate and improve student

outcomes through alignment, coordination and support of community based organizations – both

direct services providers (e.g. City Year, King County Health, Rainier Scholars, teaching artists)

and strategic partners such as the City of Seattle (e.g. DEEL, HSD, ARTs), Seattle Housing

Authority and Seattle Public Libraries.

Community services provided at the school level address the whole child and ensure students’

strengths and needs are known and supported. There are over 670 unique partnerships at the

school level. The SCP team provides an array of supports to schools, central office leaders, and

partners including: professional growth opportunities, strategic planning, partnership data

systems, and alignment and coordination tools.

This school year we launched a collaboratively developed Professional Development Plan to

support improved partnerships. The planning team included partnership intermediaries (Youth

Development Executives of King County and Schools Out Washington), the City, Seattle Public

Libraries, Seattle Housing Authority and our internal Curriculum and Instruction Colleagues.

The plan was developed in direct response to community requests and content aligned with the

District’s major initiatives. We are closing out the professional development plan for 2016.

Collectively we offered more than twenty trainings and supported the growth of over 250

individual providers. Many partnership providers came to multiple sessions. Please see the

attached plan. The SCP team is leading development of the professional development plan for

next year and it will be finalized and shared in August.

The School and Community Partnership Department is also working strategically across internal

departments, the City and SOWA to improve summer learning supports for our shared families.

We just recently launched an integrated Summer Learning site! Families can view District, City

and partner provided opportunities in one place
