Internal Awards and BursariesSwinburne Sarawak Academic Excellence Award (Foundation)

The Swinburne Sarawak Academic Excellence Award (Foundation) is open to newly enrolled students with the following results in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or equivalent qualification:

SPM school leavers: Level 1: 6As - 8As Level 2: 9As Level 3: 10As and above Level 4: 8A+s - 9A+s Level 5: 10A+s and above

g Based on actual results g Students are entitled to one award/bursary only g Availability of awards/bursary is subject to a pre-determined quota set by the university g The offer of an award shall be based on the official academic results obtained in a single sitting g The award/bursary will be disbursed equally as course tuition fee rebate in the current and subsequent term g To secure the award, the student must have paid the semester tuition fee in full before the acceptance due date as indicated in the award/bursary offer letter g The student shall maintain a full study load in every semester (normally four academic units of study or more) g For the award to be carried forward to the first year of degree (Pathway), the student must attain High Distinction (HDs) in all units in the second semester of foundation studies g Continuation of Pathway award thereafter is subject to the attainment of all HDs in every subsequent semester g Pathway award is not applicable for Winter and Summer term enrolment g Acceptance of award application is subject to terms and conditions set by the University

DVC Academic Excellence Award

For students enrolled on a foundation or degree program and who are not recipients of any award/bursary scheme.

Eligibility

g Based on a full study load (normally four academic units of study or more) g Must achieve High Distinction for all units g Not applicable for units taken during Summer, Winter term or any other short semester g Will be offered on a first-come-first served basis g Student must apply for this award

Value of Award

g Foundation: RM1,500 per semester g Degree: RM2,000 per semester

Criteria

g To be given as a tuition fee rebate for the subsequent normal semester g Not applicable to students in their final semester or students who are not enrolled on the coming semester g This award will be on a one-off basis g This award cannot be exchanged for cash g Availability of award/bursary is subject to a pre-determined quota set by the university g This award will be subject to terms and conditions set by the University

Swinburne Sarawak Alumni Bursary

Eligibility

This is open to Swinburne Sarawak alumni who enrol on one of the Master by Coursework programs at Swinburne Sarawak.

Value of Award

15% fee waiver on total program fee

Criteria

g The bursary will be given as a course fee rebate only and cannot be exchanged for cash g Students are entitled to one award/bursary only g Swinburne Sarawak reserves the right to change the terms and conditions of the award as and when required without prior notice g All decisions made on the bursary including those on matters not covered above are final and binding

Swinburne Sarawak Outstanding Youth Award

The Outstanding Youth Award is awarded to secondary school leavers newly enrolled on a foundation or degree program and who have excelled academically and/or in co-curricular activities at secondary school.

Eligibility

g Open to secondary/high school leavers g Based on actual academic and co-curricular result with a Letter of Recommendation from the school principal

Value of Award

g Dependent on academic/co-curricular activities participated by the student i.e. inter-school, inter-state or international level g Maximum RM3,500 per award

Criteria

g Approval and amount awarded is at the discretion of Swinburne Sarawak Award Committee g Students are only entitled to one award/bursary g This award will be on a one-off basis g Availability of awards/bursary is subject to a pre-determined quota set by the university g This award will be subject to the terms and conditions set by the University

Swinburne Sarawak Master by Coursework Bursary

This is open to newly enrolled students with the following result from a recognised academic institution.

Eligibility

Bachelor degree graduate with CGPA of: Level 1: 3.00 and above Level 2: 3.75 and above

Value of Award

Level 1: 10% off from the first year’s tuition fee Level 2: 10% off from the total course fee

Criteria

Swinburne Sarawak Principal Award

The Principal Award is awarded to SPM or STPM school leavers who are newly enrolled into a foundation or degree program and who have excelled in leadership and/or in co-curricular activities in selected secondary schools in East Malaysia.

g For Malaysian only g Open to SPM or STPM school leavers from selected secondary schools in East Malaysia g Only for foundation or degree course g Upon recommendation by the school principal

Value of Award

g Maximum RM3,500 per award

Criteria

Swinburne Sarawak Emerging Technology Bursary

Open to students who enrol on one of the following degree program at Swinburne Sarawak.

Eligibility

g Meet the minimum entry requirement for STPM or equivalent qualification g Minimum CGPA of 2.50 for Swinburne Sarawak Foundation graduate g The bursary is only applicable for the program below: - Bachelor of Design (Multimedia Design) - Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology - Bachelor of Computer Science - Bachelor of Science (Biotechnology)

Value of Award

Up to 20% off from the first year tuition fee

Criteria

g Based on actual results g Approval and amount to be awarded is at the discretion of Swinburne Sarawak Award Committee g Students are only entitled to one award/bursary g Availability of award/bursary is subject to a pre-determined quota set by the university g To secure the bursary, the student must have paid the semester tuition fee in full before the acceptance due date as indicated in the bursary offer letter g The award/bursary will be disbursed equally as course tuition fee rebates in the current and subsequent semester

Swinburne Sarawak Engagement Award

This award is open to students who have won a competition or tournament organised by Swinburne Sarawak.

Eligibility

g Open to Malaysian secondary school-leavers and international high-school leavers g For foundation or degree course only

Value of Award

Up to 30% off from first year tuition fee

Criteria

g Based on actual results g Approval and amount to be awarded is at the discretion of Swinburne Sarawak Award Committee g Students are entitled to one award/bursary only g Availability of award/bursary is subject to a pre-determined quota set by the university g The award is redeemable within three years effective from the date it is offered. g The award/bursary will be disbursed equally as course tuition fee rebates in the current and subsequent semester g The award will be given as a course fee rebate only and cannot be exchanged for cash g Acceptance of award application is subject to terms and conditions set by the university

Swinburne Sarawak Credit Recognition Excellence Award

This award is open to diploma graduates from a Swinburne Sarawak educational partner institution which has an official Credit Transfer Arrangement (CTA) with the university.

Eligibility

g Open to Malaysian and international students g Open to a diploma graduate who attained a CGPA of 3.70 and above

Value of Award

10% off from the first year tuition fee

Criteria

g Based on actual results g Approval and amount to be awarded is at the discretion of Swinburne Sarawak Award Committee g Please inquire with the Swinburne Sarawak Award Committee for the updated list of CTA institutions g Students are entitled to one award/bursary only g Availability of award/bursary is subject to a pre-determined quota set by the university g The award/bursary will be disbursed equally as course tuition fee rebates in the current and subsequent semester g The award will be given as a course fee rebate only and cannot be exchanged for cash g Acceptance of award application is subject to terms and conditions set by the university

General Terms and Conditions: Swinburne Sarawak award and bursary application only

The following general terms and conditions are applicable across the range of awards and bursaries offered by Swinburne Sarawak:

g The award/bursary is only valid for studies at Swinburne Sarawak g The awarding of the award/bursary is conditional upon payment of full term fee g The offer an award/ bursary shall be based on the official academic results obtained in a single sitting g Only completed application application forms received by the closing date will be entertained g Award/bursary recipients must continue to study full-time throughout the award or bursary period (except for Swinburne Sarawak Master by Coursework Bursary in which part-time students are also eligible) g The recipient shall maintain a full study load in each term (normally four academic units of study or more) g A student is entitled to only one award or bursary g A student who has been awarded an award and/or bursary by Swinburne Sarawak or any other institution shall not be eligible for another award or bursary g Award or bursary recipients shall contribute to Swinburne Sarawak’s activities including participation in promotional activities when required during their period of study g All decisions made by the Swinburne Sarawak Award Committee are final. Appeals will not be entertained g Successful applicants will be notified via an award/bursary offer letter g All awards or bursaries are to be given as course tuition fee rebate only and cannot be exchanged for cash g The award or bursary is not-transferable g The award or bursary shall be forfeited if the student withdraws from the course or transfers to Swinburne Australia g Once the award/bursary is forfeited, it shall not be reinstated g Swinburne Sarawak shall not be responsible for any application form that is misplaced, lost or failed to reach the designated department of Swinburne Sarawak g The award/bursary shall be forfeited if the student fails to abide by the rules and regulations of Swinburne Sarawak g Unless otherwise approved, each student is only entitled to one award/bursary/financial assistance scheme/promotional benefits offered by Swinburne Sarawak and its group at any one time. In the event that the student qualifies for more than one award, he/she must choose which of these he/she wishes to apply and accept g Approval must be obtained from the Registrar of Swinburne Sarawak for leave of absence. The award shall recommence once the recipient resumes his/her studies at Swinburne Sarawak. Failure to obtain approval for leave of absence shall result in the forfeiture of the award g Swinburne Sarawak reserves the right to change the terms and conditions of the award/bursary as and when required without prior notice. All decisions of Swinburne Sarawak including those on matters not covered above are final and binding

External Scholarships2016 MELOLISA Foundation Scholarship

MELOLISA Foundation, a charitable organisation, is actively involved in benevolent activities in Malaysia. It awards scholarships to deserving Malaysian students to pursue their studies at universities in Malaysia.

Eligibility

g The applicant must be a Malaysian citizen g Priority will be given to applicants whose family monthly per capita income is not more than RM1,500

Award Value

The maximum award value shall not be more than the tuition fee of the degree or foundation course. The amount to be awarded shall be at the discretion of MELOLISA Foundation and shall be reviewed on a yearly basis.

Criteria

g The applicant must have good academic results for SPM and/or STPM. Diploma students from other institutions of higher learning must have a CGPA of 2.8 and above g The applicant has received an offer of study by the University g Priority shall be given to an applicant who shall be the first in the family to graduate with a bachelor’s degree g Recipients of the scholarship must maintain a CGPA of 2.8 and above throughout the course of study at the University to continue to be eligible for the scholarship g A scholarship recipient shall return all monies received if he/she transfers overseas, withdraws or drops out from his/her program or fails to continue to be eligible for the scholarship without a good reason for such failure. Each case shall be reviewed and determined independently.

In addition to the financial standing and academic achievements of the applicant, the organisation will also take into consideration the following:

g Attributes which indicate that the applicant is likely to become an outstanding citizen g Personal qualities and character, and the extent to which the applicant has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities g Participations and achievements in extra-curricular activities including sports and community services

It is compulsory for the recipient of the scholarship to join and complete a course at an outward bound school identified by the MELOLISA Foundation before the final year of his/her degree program. The fee for participation shall be sponsored by MELOLISA Foundation whereas the transportation cost to the outward bound school shall be borne by the individual scholarship recipients respectively.

Closing date

The closing date for application for the MELOLISA Foundation Scholarship is the third Monday after the commencement of the semester. Applicants may apply for the scholarship as soon they receive a Letter of Offer for enrolment from the University.

How to apply

1. Application forms can be obtained from:

2. The application form must be signed by the applicant. Incomplete application forms or those containing incorrect information will be rejected.

3. The following documents must be certified and attached with the application form:

- Academic result transcripts - Parents’ salary slips (latest 3 months) or business statement, and the latest Income Tax Return Form - Applicant’s self-statement demonstrating the need for financial assistance, including stating the number of siblings, their age and their respective level of education, together with any other information to support the application

4. Applications are to be sent back to the Marketing & Recruitment Office of the University.

The scholarship award recipient shall be bonded to work with MELOLISA Foundation, its associated or related companies and/or with the University for a period of three years unless he/she is released from this condition. The MELOLISA Foundation shall have a three-month option to employ the scholarship recipient after his/her graduation. The recipient may apply for release from this condition.

All scholarship award recipients must study fulltime throughout the scholarship period.

Yayasan Sarawak BESTARI Scholarship

Criteria

g Open to Sarawakian students who are interested to pursue any degree program at Swinburne Sarawak g Open to all students who have completed matriculation/Pre-U/ A- Level/Diploma/STPM or equivalent g Must have a CGPA of 3.5 and above or all grade As in STPM

Scope of Sponsorship

g Annual tuition fees g Living allowance (hostel fee and daily expenses) g Transportation (once a year; applicable for outstation students only) g Book allowance g Thesis allowance (if any) g Computer (one-off) g May be granted an opportunity to complete part of his/her studies at Swinburne Melbourne for up to one semester

Application Procedure

g Applicant must fill in the application form and attached all relevant supporting documents.

g Supporting documents: – Swinburne Offer Letter – NRIC

Eligibility

g Must be a Malaysian (priority will be given to Sarawakians) g Full-time student undertaking degree studies g Grade 8 in each subject in STPM or CGPA of 3.00 and above for foundation students enrolled into a degree course and students within the degree course g Excellent academic results and actively involved in co- curricular activities g Must not have been offered other scholarships g Only short-listed candidates will be called for interview

Availability

Please inquire with Yayasan Sarawak on the availability of the scholarship. The availability of the scholarship will also be announced through Swinburne Sarawak’s Blackboard and local newspapers.

g The application form will only be released once an announcement is made on the availability of the scholarship g Duly-filled application forms may be sent to the Student HQ, Swinburne Sarawak

Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera (Peneraju Tunas Potensi)

The primary objective of the Peneraju Tunas scholarship program is to ensure that eligible students from financially-challenged areas and those from low to middle income families have access to quality education opportunities that are based on developmental needs via placement at the right academic institutions within a structured developmental program that enhances and strengthens the students’ soft and leadership skills.

Criteria

g Open to all Malaysian Bumiputera students g Attained results*as detailed below: - Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia: minimum 5As - Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia: minimum 2As - Diploma/ Matriculation: CGPA 3.0 and above g Household income less than RM3,000 per month g Possess unique skills and leadership traits g Must be a full-time student g Students are only entitled to one scholarship/bursary/award g Availability of this scheme is subject to a pre-determined quota set by PENERAJU g Subject to terms and conditions set by PENERAJU

Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN)

Eligibility

g Must be a Malaysian g Applicable for degree courses except for double degree courses g Must have received a Letter of Offer from Swinburne Sarawak g Must be a full-time student g Subject to terms and conditions as stipulated by PTPTN

Value of Award

g The value of the loan is dependent on the student’s family income g Details can be obtained from www.ptptn.gov.my

Application Procedure

g A Personal Identification Number (PIN) is required before applying for the loan online. The PIN is valid for six months and can be purchased at Bank Simpanan Nasional(BSN) for RM5.00

g Applicants must open a personal account with CIMB bank. The account will be used by PTPTN to disburse of the loan g Applicants must open a Skim Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional (SSPN) account at the nearest PTPTN branch or any participating bank. The SSPN account is for the repayment of the PTPTN loan g Supporting documents are to be submitted only after the application is successful

Application Date and Announcement of Results

For each term, there are two closing dates:

g For Semester 1, the closing dates are 15th February and 15th March g For Semester 2, the closing dates are 15th September and 15th October

Results of the loan application is made available seven working days after the closing dates.

EPF Withdrawal Scheme

Eligibility

g EPF members and/or children of EPF members g Applicable for degree and Postgraduate by Coursework courses g Applicants are to liaise directly with the nearest EPF office

Value of Award

g Up to the total tuition fee, or entire balance in Account II, whichever is lower g Members may apply for withdrawal in each academic year provided there are sufficient funds in Account II

MARA Study Loan

Eligibility

g A parent of the applicant must be a Bumiputera g Bachelor degree level: - Must obtain a credit in Bahasa Melayu in SPM, and three principals inclusive of General Paper or two principals inclusive of General Paper plus two subsidiary or other equivalent qualifications in STPM g Foundation level: - SPM or its equivalent with five credits including Bahasa Melayu, English and Mathematics plus two other subjects approved by the university - Must achieve and maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.5 in each term throughout the course of study

g Must apply online via MARA website http://eduloan.mara.gov.my and complete all required fields g Supporting documents must be attached when submitting the online application form

Eligibility

Value of Award

The value of the award covers the total tuition fees
