SAFETY 1ST

While on plant site, please remember the following safety rules.

•Obey plant speed limit of 25 mph and all other traffic and warning signs. •Stop at both RR crossings. Even if the railroad safety arms are up, still look both ways and check for trains. If the safety arms are down and you don’t see a train, do not drive through. •Do not operate cell phone, text or Bluetooth while driving on Nucor property. •Watch for mobile equipment like Taylors, Shuttle Trucks and Forklifts. Use caution when approaching and keep a safe distance away. • Security gate closes at 7:00pm. • Restrooms are located around the corner.

What’s the Foundation?

(or, how did I get this award?)

The Nucor Foundation Program began in 1974 as a non-profit corporation for charitable and educational purposes.

The Foundation believes economic and social progress is built on educating people. Scholarships encourage education so the Foundation awards scholarship grants to deserving students. $61.1 million has been paid to 13,200 students at 1,587 different schools.

Every student has something in common:their parent works at Nucor!!

In April 2012, the Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee awarded 708 awards for 2012.

Questions often asked I’m a Freshman. Why did Nucor only

pay $1,500 this semester? How much of the fees will Nucor pay? What’s the difference between a

school year award and a calendar year award?

Classes start tomorrow. Where’s Nucor’s money?

Are there schools that Direct Bill? Do you have contacts at schools? Why did I get a letter from Trident

Tech canceling my classes? My Cumulative Grade Point Average

(GPA) is 1.6?

18

Page 19: Scholarship Meeting

What if I Withdraw from a class? I can’t attend Berkeley’s project day

June 6th or 8th? I haven’t done my service project or

submitted my transcript and fees are due?

Can I transfer to a different school? The class is full, can I take it on-line? What if I’m required to buy a

Computer? I live off-campus, does that qualify? When will my statement of fees be

paid?
