VETERANS Mens O40 Division 4 vs Rockingham (Drew 1 - 1) A draw but could have been a different result if we had been able to score. Good performances from the back players and a strong showing from the midfield players but we were not able to finish it off. Better luck next time as we head towards the finals.

Mens O50 Division 1 vs NCR (Won 4 - 1) Best: M. Watson, R. Scanlon, C. Simpson-Bint/G. Ross Goals: R. Achemedei, C. Simpson-Bint, M. Watson, P. Dawkins Fantastic team effort resulting in a great a win, with the forwards finding the net on four occasions. Our best score for the season. Again it is a top four team that we have had a win against. The win was built on the basics of good ball movement, good trapping, and good player movement. Well done team.

Mens O50 Division 2 Gold vs Willetton Reds (Won 4 - 2) Best: C. Avent, G. Coleman, A. Wood Goals: A. Wood (2), K. Harper, G. Coleman The 500th game for Gramps and Leo, with the rest of the bunch only managing to accumulate 4000 between them. With the strong possibility of rain, Harps scored early, subbed himself off and had a shower, as we copped a big one on the field. Pitch managed to miss a goal, 5mm from the goal mouth and managed to defend another later in the game. Chips chipped in with two and Leo scored the last to complete a successful 1000 games for two milestone players.

Mens O60 Division vs Whitfords (Drew 1 - 1) Best: G. Riley/L. Welten, P. Hall, K. Platel Goals: K. Platel We travelled on a very cold Saturday afternoon for the battle of the wooden spooners. We added Bruce Porter and Gary Bowater to cover for absent and injured players. It was a hard fought scrap from start to finish but neither side could make the most of short corners. Keith finally snuck one through and we held the lead until the last minute when the main forward of Whitfords hit the post once and then posted the equaliser. Bad luck guys we need to win next week now.

JUNIORS

Boys 11/12A Best: J. Ross, J. Rutigliano, H. Edwards Goals: A. Howells, N. Page Three points again but still some work to do to play a full game at the intensity we have only managed to display occasionally. A win with room to improve is a good thing.

Boys 11/12A Reserve vs Lions (Lost 1 - 8) Best: A. McCartney, A. Edgar, M. Dixon Goals: R. Breuer Our opponent this week were the ladder leading Lions. The boys were eager to put in a good performance and take it to the opposition. Early on Lions had more possession, but Melville still managed to create a few opportunities. Midway through the first half Lions converted their first penalty corner to make it 1-0. However they were not expecting Melville to hit back immediately! A well worked outlet found our left side midfield and strikers in space. Eddie drew the goalkeeper and then passed off to Ryan, for a tap in on the back post. 1-1 and Lions were not happy! Unfortunately with no subs this week, we started to run out of legs late in the half and

Lions put in 2 more goals to take it to 3-1. Despite the score line the boys 1st half performance was tremendous in all aspects.

Lions put in a goal early in the second half which was going to make it hard to come back from. But the effort, intensity and desire of the boys remained for the entire 70 minutes-something they can be very proud of. Although the final score line of 8-1 isn't flattering, the skill level and determination was terrific. Special mention to Andrew in goals who played brilliantly once again, and to Atle and Matt, 2 defenders who had great games.

Girls 11/12B vs Joondalup lakers (Lost 1 - 6) Goals: B. Irvine A big loss against Joondalup in score but it doesn't reflect their performance and effort on the field despite having no subs. Joondalup had many subs to keep fresh legs on the field to keep running circles around us.

Boys 9/10A vs Wolves (Lost 2 - 6) Best: T. Dickson, W. Stewart, K. Potter Goals: T. Dickson (2) Unfortunately we weren't switched on and started the game very poorly. Wolves are a quality outfit but we weren't competitive enough in 50/50 contests and our 1v1 accountability was well below par. We did pick it up in the 2nd half and managed to score a couple of goals but our first half was where the game was lost.

Girls 9/10A Best: C. Hobbs, I. Filmer, J. Snyman Goals: M. Hagen, C. Hobbs, J. Snyman The girls played a tough match at a high standard. A few tweaks to attitude on the pitch need to be made, allowing each individual to fulfil their role in the team at 100%. All sport, not just NFL, is a matter of inches (Any Given Sunday is a great movie for those who haven't seen it) and we were an inch short on too many occasions today.

Boys 9/10A Reserve vs Westside Wolves (Lost 0 - 4) Best: L. Downey, B. Delaney, R. Stewart No report

Boys 9/10B (Black) vs Rockingham (Won 3 - 1) Best: M. Harrup, T. Alder, M. Gillard Goals: L. Farrow, M. Harrup, S. McKinnon A solid effort against a valiant and determined opposition has seen us positioned well to battle for a top two finish to the season. A highlight this week was an amazing game from the Rockingham keeper, who at just 11 years of age, made a number of saves that much older keepers would be proud to achieve. We have big games against the teams occupying the top positions to finish the season and we are confident that the boys will fly the flag for the club and end the season on a high note.

Girls 9/10B (Gold) (Lost 0 - 4) Best: T. Godin, P. McWhae, H. Jones Well we certainly had our chances and the first half could have gone ether way with a couple of nice passes and an almost goal that had the sideline jumping. The score ran away a little in the second half although we didn't seem to be out of the game by any means and maintained a high level of effort. Good work girls.

Boys 7/8A vs Westside Wolves (Lost 1 - 4) Best: Z. McKinnon, C. Brown, L. Page Goals: P. Lorraine This was always going to be a tough game against the top of the ladder team but the Melville boys put in an excellent effort. The start of the game Melville looked dominate but as the game progressed Westside Wolves showed their strong form. Zac played a great game in goals with Callum and Liam contributing in the field and Patrick scoring the only goal with 40 seconds remaining in the game. Well done boys.

Girls 7/8A vs Wolves (Drew 1 - 1) Best: I. Filmer, C. Forbes, S. Hanavan Goals: C. Forbes Last week we fired on all eight cylinders – this week we managed to fire on five or six. Perhaps the cold, the rain, the wind and the drenched turf took the edge of our performance. We paid the price at both ends of the field: conceding a soft goal and not putting away several very gettable chances at the other. Put this game in your memory banks girls. We need to be better than this as we get closer to the end of the season.

Girls 7/8A Reserve vs Wolves (Won 1 - 0) Goals: I. Bilclough This week saw a form reversal that was truly epic. I have always known that this team could play an entire game of outstanding hockey and today they proved just that. Its taken a long time to reach this point and it doesn't matter to me in the slightest. What matters is that this team played a game that not only made me proud but would have made their parents proud as well. Congratulations to all the girls, an outstanding hard won team effort.

Boys 7/8B (Black) vs Hale (Drew 2 - 2) 2015-07-25 Best: Team Effort Goals: A. Lukan, Z. Swinton The boys were very flat coming off the school holiday break, and were forced to fight for a draw.

Boys 7/8B (Black) vs UWA (Lost 0 - 1) 2015-08-01 Best: Team Effort Again another very flat performance. The boys seem to have lost the determination and killer instinct they had before the school holidays

Boys 7/8B (Black) vs Wolves (Won 2 - 1) 2015-08-08 Best: Team Effort Goals: B. Deacon, J. Hart A much better performance this week. The desire to work for each other was back and it was reflected in the result.

Girls 7/8B (Gold) vs WASPS (yellow) (Lost 0 - 6) Best: S. King, A. Grant, J. West Thanks Tim for taking over managers duty for the day. lost the game 6-0 to WASPS. huge thanks to John Skipsey for taking over as coach for these final games much appreciated.

Boys 7/8C vs Dale HC (Lost 1 - 2) Best: Good Team Effort Goals: T. Walker Wet, windy, cold and a few players down - Must be playing Dale again! Last time they snuck over the line with a late goal and this time round our boys couldn't convert the frequent opportunities inside our D. Our defence was good and held strong when under siege from a flood of unmarked Dale forwards streaming toward goal whilst our forwards did it tough in the boggy conditions. We enjoyed some glorious displays of team play and all the signs are there for some good results to see out the year.

Girls 5/6A vs Wolves Red (Won 2 - 0) Best: The Whole Team! Goals: M. Chanter, E. Polglase A good win against an opposition that has got the better of us in the past, in what were very difficult conditions for players and parents alike! Running the ball down the wing and along the baseline created some great opportunities which you made the most of. Best game of the season yet girls - well done!

Boys 5/6A Promotion Fighting against the Freo Doctor and constant rain on Stevens Reserve Hill, the J5/6 A-promotion Boys brought a positive attitude and hard running into the game to pull through with a 2-0 win against NC Raiders. Each player fought hard to win their position on the field today and used the linking play which has eluded them in recent games in a show of much improved team work. Lachlan Drake-Brockman at centre half made life hard for raiders trying to play up the middle corridor and added icing to the cake by exploiting an opening at the top of the D, stepping in to slam home a great goal. Dylan Bradshaw showed us why he is on top of the team's goal scorer list with a goal that proved that perseverance is a great element of success. A good lead-up game to next weeks top of the table clash … Melville-v-Wolves.

Boys 5/6B Gold vs Lions (Blue) (Lost 1 - 2) Goals: R. Stephenson The Melville Boys conceded a 2:1 loss to Lions in a wet encounter. Melville took the lead when Riley Stephenson scored in the first half. Lions equalised early in the the second half but despite numerous short corners neither team could break through until Lions drew ahead with a late goal. The Melville boys put a strong consistent effort in for the whole game.

Boys 5/6C Gold vs Southern River (Won 8 - 2) Best: J. Bunn, M. Hellberg, L. Ryder Goals: M. Hellberg (6), J. Bunn (2) Today, Michael put one hand on the Ian Halliday trophy and challenged the rest of the club to take it from him. Most of Michael’s six goals as well as both of Joe’s came from solid team work, while hard working defenders restricted SR to just two at the other end and we made them work very hard for both.
