1 Getting Started

1 Getting Started This SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS) Master Guide provides a central starting point for the technical implementation and upgrade of SAP Global Trade Services. It contains all activities for the installation and configuration of SAP Global Trade Services.

SAP Global Trade Services consists of the following business scenarios:

• SAP Compliance Management ensures that complex international regulations are adhered to in the areas of

- Sanctioned Party List Screening - Import/Export Control - Embargo Checking

• SAP Customs Management is used to handle cooperation with customs authorities with the main focus on implementing electronic shipping procedures. The main areas are:

- Customs Communication Service - Duty Calculation - Trade Document Service

This Master Guide provides information about which components and which guides are required for these business scenarios.

• Getting Started contains valuable information about using this document and related information (documentation and SAP Notes) that is crucial to the installation and upgrade.

• SAP Global Trade Services Overview contains the following information: - A short introduction to SAP Global Trade Services - The software component matrix that provides information on which business scenario

requires which component, and whether the corresponding component is mandatory or optional

- The minimal system landscape

Business Scenarios of SAP Global Trade Services contains the following information for every business scenario in SAP Global Trade Services:

- An overview of the business scenario - Information about the overall installation sequence and subsequent steps - References to related installation and upgrade notes and configuration guides

Software Components Overview contains a short description of every software component that is part of SAP Global Trade Services.

• In References, you can find an overview of all the required documentation referenced in this Master Guide.

You can find the most current information about the technical implementation of SAP Global Trade Services and the latest installation notes and configuration guides in SAP Service Marketplace at the following Internet addresses: service.sap.com/notes and service.sap.com/instguides We strongly recommend that you use the documents available here. 1.1 SAP Global Trade Services and Business Scenario Documentation Landscape Purpose SAP offers several documents for implementing the SAP Global Trade Services solution and business scenarios. An overview of the individual documents follows. Always use the most up-to-date documents for your implementation.

Features The following documents are available for SAP Global Trade Services:

− Master Guide

The Master Guide is the main document for SAP Global Trade Services. It lists the application components and third-party applications required by each business scenario, and refers to their installation and upgrade notes.

− Business Scenario Description

This document describes how a business scenario runs once all the software components have been installed and configured. It comprises a text (business scenario documentation) and a graphic (component view).

− Business-Scenario Configuration Guide

This document describes the settings you use to configure SAP Global Trade Services application components required for a business scenario. This involves a system connection, data replication, customizing, and master data. The business scenario configuration guide specifies the configuration activity sequence, and their dependencies. Configuration activities can be IMG activities, SAP system transactions, organizational activities, and so on.

− Implementation Guide (IMG)

The IMG enables you to configure SAP systems in accordance with customer requirements. The structure is component-oriented without reference to a business scenario. The IMG is taken from the business scenario configuration guide and is business scenario-specific. The configuration guide identifies the areas in the IMG where you find the (general) IMG activity documentation, but it does not specify actual settings for the business scenario.

− SAP Library

This is the set of functional documentation for all the SAP Global Trade Services components.

2 SAP Global Trade Services Overview

2 SAP Global Trade Services Overview SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS) is an enterprise-wide, centralized application that enables your company to comply with worldwide trade regulations and manage information that is relevant for foreign trade. It provides reporting features, especially for audits, that enable you to handle changing import and export requirements and controls.

The solution is designed to be integrated with multiple SAP and non-SAP systems in a heterogeneous environment. It can be implemented without changing your existing logistics processes.

SAP Global Trade Services Release 2.0 facilitates interactions between companies and customs agencies, driving the efficient movement of goods and information across international borders. It enables companies to work in compliance with legal authorities and adhere to standardized processes (for example the European New Computerized Transit System (NCTS)), therefore accelerating cross-border trading and avoiding shipment delays.

In addition, SAP Global Trade Services supports the production of international shipping documentation, including commercial invoices, entry summaries, and pre-clearance notifications. It automates the process of assigning official Commodity Codes and HTS numbers to the product master. Finally, a phonetic classification tool can be used to retrieve classification data from third party data providers and then associate the data with a customs product master.

2 SAP Global Trade Services Overview

SAP Global Trade Services is based on the SAP Web Application Server 6.20 technology. This tried and tested, reliable technology provides an independent platform, scalability and the support of numerous language and country versions. At the same time it provides a web-based infrastructure that can be connected to any application with open Internet standards.

SAP Global Trade Services can be run on the same operating system/database system combination as, for example, SAP R/3 Enterprise. You can connect SAP Global Trade Services to SAP R/3 Enterprise systems of Release 4.0 or higher using standard interfaces. You can also connect it to several SAP systems of different releases without any technical problems. You can use the available interfaces to link SAP Global Trade Services with one or more SAP R/3 Enterprise systems as well as with other mySAP Business Suite solutions such as mySAP Customer Relationship Management or mySAP Supplier Relationship Management. You can also run SAP Global Trade Services in heterogeneous system landscapes due to the fact that it can be connected to non-SAP systems.

To enable communication with customs offices in the SAP Customs Management component, you need to install converter software. This component maps SAP IDocs to EDIFACT messages and provides two-way communication with the authorities (customs offices).

4 Software Components Overview

4 Software Components Overview This section provides additional information about the most important software components of SAP Global Trade Services.

Only a subset of these components is required for installing a specific business scenario. For a scenario-specific overview of components, see the section Business Scenario Overview.

4.1 Application Components 4.1.1 SAP Global Trade Services 2.0 SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS) 2.0 provides the technological prerequisites for complying with worldwide trade regulations, managing information that is relevant to foreign trade, interacting with customs agencies, and producing international shipping documentation, such as commercial invoices, entry summaries, and pre-clearance notifications.

4.2 Technology Components 4.2.1 Legal and Logistics Services Plug-In 2.0 The Legal and Logistics Services Plug-In (SLL_PI) provides all the technical functions required for the SAP Global Trade Services system to communicate with the backend system(s). These can be SAP R/3 system(s), any other SAP system(s) or non-SAP system(s).

4.2.2 SAP Web Application Server 6.20 SAP Web Application Server (SAP Web AS) 6.20 provides the technological foundation for SAP Global Trade Services 2.0. In a sense, SAP Web Application Server is the "operating system" of SAP Global Trade Services.

4.2.3 SAP GUI Generally, the latest release of the SAP GUI software (such as SAP GUI 6.20) can be used with all previous SAP component releases. As a result, older SAP systems can also benefit from the features that are only available in the newer SAP GUI releases, for example support for Windows XP.

The SAP front-end software release must always be at least the same as SAP R/3. For example, you cannot use SAP GUI 4.5B with SAP R/3 4.6C.
