Hi!

I’m Sanja and I love triangles, squares, straight lines and simple shapes. Back in my home country Macedonia, I used to study architecture for six years. This is why I’m always aiming at achieving logical, sleek and very geometrical results; and obsessed about building perfect looking and working models. Two years ago my life completely changed... I was accepted at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, moved to Amsterdam. Now that I am here I discovered lots of new shapes and curved lines I grew to love.

S/12Chair design2012 Gerrit Rietveld AcademyGuidance: Michiel MeursStatus: Completed

S/12 is a three leg chair that is defined by geometric shapes and angles used in architec-ture. It plays with the idea of balance and stability. Having the single leg in the front, makes this chair unique in structure and seating experience. The slightly angled seat reinforces the concepts to sit with the legs close to each other. Because of the particular shape of the seat, one must keep the legs closed while seated and when getting up. This focuses the weight pressure on the front leg, adding stability to the chair.

This infographic represents my week - the colored horizontal rows correspond to common daily activities, divided vertically in seven week-days. Inspired by the work of Krijn de Koning, the infographic has a surprising twist, as the flat front view changes into extruded side view. Seen from the side, the extrusion of each triangle equals to the time spent on a certain activity. From the front, the same information is hinted through the intensity of the color reflected on the angled surface.

ManualsPrinted communications2012 Gerrit Rietveld AcademyCommissioned by Rietveld UncutStatus: Completed

Every year Gerrit Rietveld Academy, under different themes, present the work of its depart-ments to the public, Rietveld Uncut. The assign-ment, at that point that designLAB was working on, was a reproduction of Jan Schooven’s white relief. The theme of Uncut that year was ‘The Making off’ - every student was given a task within the project for Uncut. Mine was to design the manual for the visitors of the designLAB project. The front side of the manuals exhibits an abstract graphical play of shadows created by that particular work that on the back side is illustrated step by step, how the work of Jan Schoonhoven can be reproduced.

The aim of this project was to achieve new, attractive and unexpected final results by experi-menting with concrete in combination with a flexible mold. The flexible mold consists of two parts; a wooden frame and walls made of plastic foil. The concrete is poured in the flexible mold. Concrete being heavy and solid, I was chal-lenged and intrigued by the idea of creating something that looks soft and light. The concrete lamp is the outcome of this experi-ment - puffy concrete holds on to a metal struc-ture, safeguarding a warm colored that shines through the concrete.

New AmsStreetlights2011 Gerrit Rietveld AcademyGuidance: Krijn Christiaansen and Cathelijne MontensIn collaboration with the Municipality of AmsterdamStatus: Completed

The Municipality of Amsterdam was working on a project called “New Amsterdam” in order to improve the qualities of the area around Amstel Station. Within a few given assignments I chose to design a streetlight. My goals were to achieve a symbiosis of public space decorative installa-tion and functional street light. Most common streetlights consist of one light over the benches and the pedestrian path. However New Ams treats the light the light differently. The lantern consists of two parts: directed to the benches is the low triangular shaped, milky light, creating the ambiance; whereas the tall, slightly angled bright light, delivers enough visibility along the path for the pedestrians and bikers.

Logo2011 Commissioned by Mali Hidtro elektrani D.O.O SkopjeStatus: Completed

The company Mali Hidro elektrani (Small hydro power plants) asked me to design a logo for their company. I made a simplified graphical version of how they work: turbines based on water pressure produce energy. This resulted into a this logo that ended up being used both as a light sign on the building and as a logo for all their official documents.

FrustrationSculpture2011 Gerrit Rietveld AcademyGuidance: Tammo SchuringaStatus: Completed

The context of this project was to pick a story of a fellow student and visualize it.I chose a Rubik's cube and the frustration while figuring out how it could be solved. As the title suggests, this sculpture shows how frustration over longer period of time feels to me. The tensed hand posture demonstrates struggling, so much that the fingers turn into Rubik cubes at the very tips. One loses grip over what can be done, and all turns into hopelessly obsessive urge to solve a Rubik’s cube.

Y WallMaterial/technique experiment Room divider2013 Gerrit Rietveld AcademyGuidance: Jeroen WandStatus: Completed

In a two week period we were asked to experi-ment with paper in various ways. Use of other materials was also allowed if necessary. My most interesting and promising tryout was paper tubes glued in between two sheets of paper. Having this I started thinking what are the qualities of this system and what could it become. After experimenting with scale, types of glue and the flexibility, room divider was the logical solution. Being flexible it would fit every space, the use of milky paper in between lets light shine through and still hides the other side.Y wall has three dividers joined in the middle, it is lightweight and should come in flat packaging, making it the easiest wall to transport or store.
