A GREAT, BIG THANKS... ..to all who helped decorate and serve Breakfast with Santa. The Meals-On-Wheels program benefits from the $2,000+ in net profit.
Bernice is putting the finishing touches on the Senior Center Directory; if you checked the box to be included, you should be getting a call soon to verify information. If you haven’t gotten a call by the end of Janu-ary, and you’d like your name & phone num-ber in the directory, please give us a call at 503-668-5569. Directories will be ready the 2nd week in February.
Tax Assistance appointments will begin the first Wednesday in February and continue through April 13th. Volunteers are onsite to help with simple tax returns and rental assis-tance forms. Beginning in January, call or stop by to make an appointment.
Got old shoes? Boy Scout Michael Howes is conducting a used shoe drive to earn his Eagle Scout rank. Items col-lected will be recycled, and the proceeds will benefit the non-profit, Power to Be-
come. Deposit your old shoes in the box in the lounge at the center by January 15th. Your donation will help to improve the quality of life in African countries.
We may actually get some winter weather this year. If the Oregon Trail District closes schools, the Center is closed for services
(including transportation), lunch & activities. Staff will be onsite to answer phones, and every attempt is made to deliver meals-on-wheels.
LATE OPENING ON THURS. JAN 21st The Center will be closed from 8:30-10:30

Cell Phone Etiquette With the marked increase in cell phone use here at the Center, now is a good time to remind folks of a few simple
guidelines for public use of these handy devices.
Ringtones Ringtones featuring loud music or unusual noises are obnoxious in a public setting, so please select your ringtones accordingly.
Keep The Volume Down Be respectful. Your phone conversation is not any more important than the live conversations going on around you. This is especially important to re-member since most people tend to unknowingly talk a bit louder when using their cellphones. You may forget that everyone around you can hear every single word you say. Not only can what you say be misconstrued, a steady stream of one-sided chatter will likely be annoying to others. Keep your volume down, or excuse yourself and find a private place to talk.
Speakerphone Avoid using a speakerphone where there is open space such as the lounge, the restroom and the bus. If you can find a quiet room and shut the door, this is ideal.
Dining Put your phone on vibrate to prevent creating un-necessary noise if your cell phone rings during a meal. Only make outgoing calls if necessary, and keep them brief. When people call you, let them know that you are eating, and unless it’s an emer-gency, tell them you’ll call back later. Keep your voice as low as possible.
Senior Center Specifics The lounge is a place for folks to gather and enjoy each other’s company. It is also directly adjacent to the staff work areas. We enjoy the happy hum of activity, but excessive volume can make it difficult for us to complete our daily tasks.
Please keep in mind these are guidelines—there is no cell phone police patrolling the area. Your coop-eration will make for a happier environment for all.
